My father in law got this car shortly before he passed away...we knew he didn't have long so he wanted one last road trip together, some of the best memories....smile every time i see one of these on the road...RIP mate.
RIP.. thats the best story i've ever heard😢. so gald you both got one last drive
@@RossReviewsau Thanks Ross
Nice memories bud. FORDEVA
Haha good joke fordeva lol@@Iswhatitisssss
Sorry for your lost mate I hope you never forget about him
That LTD is absolutely immaculate. The best condition AU I’ve come across.. what a credit to all its owners
It really really was amazing to see
I bought one of these 7 yrs ago, I still love it , it's the last of the true australian' touring' cars , the suspension is beautiful , as you say a loungeroom on wheels , can sit in them all day long
Couldn't agree more!
Nice, the front and rear styling has a similarity to what was coming with the BA. Always loved the TL50 too
i might be reviewing a TL50 soon ;)
Im all about the Fairlane and LTD ranges. Have owned many over the years but never the AU. Currently have the BF which is beautiful although i think they could have done a little better over the Fairmont Ghia's. The AU range though was truly world class and underrated for many years
Agree mate! The BF lanes and LTD drive so well, however Ford seemed to really put a lot of effort into these. Especially the interiors
i think your right they really nailed the AU LTD! love the BF LTD (review might be coming soon) but i feel like they did do a better overall job on the AU
No #hit. The AU had it's own sheet metal. The way it should be.
I used to own a Au Fairlane Ghia, sold it for $2500. Great motor, 6cyl Tickford. Gearbox was useless, replaced it twice as it could not meet the power from the motor. The woodgrain is cheap plastic as is most of the cheap equipment. The electric windows were constantly a problem, having to clean the contact all the time. What I did love about the car was going for a long trip. Very comfortable seats and leg room. Still love the look of this vehicle and would love to have one again.
It definitely has a pig with lipstick aspect. All flashy looking but really a tarted up taxi cab!
These things are so damn comfy. Nothing like ‘em
100% best cruiser for the aussie roads
I reckon these looked excellent back in the day, and they've aged gracefully. I love how different they looked compared to the Falcon at the time. The BA/BF LTD didn't stand out as much.
Definitely the best one of the ltd’s
Full credit to the owner of this luxo barge, it's in mint condition! As much as I admire this model, I'm more of a fan of the 70's and 80's Fairlanes and LTD's, great review Jono and go the Leafs!
total credit to him! legend of an owner
Thanks for another awesome video Jono. The effort you put into these videos is amazing. Really cool to see the LTD represented and appreciated in this video. It was a pleasure to have you review it!
John your care and love for this LTD really shows! was absolutely shocked how good this car was! thanks for sharing it with all of us :)
@@RossReviewsau cheers mate. I do put the effort in but kudos to my Uncle who owned it for many years and kept it in pristine condition. Just following in his foot steps and will maintain it for years to come.
Another great review mate, was hanging out to see this one.
Great job with the reviews and variety, I reckon you've outdone Topgear Australia.
HAHA Thanks m8! lets hope one day ill get that level production team ;)
What an amazing car, would love one of them so bad. I'm a sucker for big boat luxury cars with big V8 engines can't beat it in my opinion.
they are just so good eh..
My family used to own a Ford AU Tickford Fairlane. It was black with a black Interior and it had the VCT INTECH. But those VCTs still get up and Boogie. And I never realised that you’re Canadian
Yup first generation Canadian😉 I am also a kiwi as my arm shows 😂 but im really an Aussie at heart 🇦🇺
@@RossReviewsau wow that’s awesome mate
I hope you’re having a great day today
@@RossReviewsau trippy, so you're like the LS motors, built in Canada & ppl think you're/they're American.. PS I hate Chevy badges on our Holden's!!
Canadian Inuit from the north, Ross hates summer.
I still have Au fairlane with the VCT. A beatiful car and you are not wrong the inline six absolutely goes for gold when it wants to.
Such a great car and unlike the SWB AU, I always like the look of this.
really stands out eh.. cheers paul
Great video! Awesome work Ross! Always look forward to these shows! The Big AU's are absolutely amazing. Still have my Fairlane. It is great!!! Cheers from Melbourne!!
thanks ROB! gotta love an AU.. glad you enjoyed it
I like that the odometer reading on the acceleration test was 100351! Perfect for a Ford V8. Nice Easter egg.
👀 she’s a weapon of an AU
Got this exact same car. Original chrome wheels though because I wanted to keep it stock. These are getting ready to shoot up in value. A very rare beast.
100% getting ready to go up in value! (just like my typhoon) haha
I have a xls 5 litre Windsor series 3 Ute late 2002, had it since new still drive it once a week, done 240000. no issues. love it. PS its still quick for a 20 year old Ute.
gotta love em!
Never was a fan of the AU Falcon styling. But always loved the look of the AU fairlanes and LTD's. Dad had two AU Fairlanes Ghia's back in the day
They are so cool to see nowadays.. quite rare
L.T.D's are the coolest . I love them , I've owned a few Fairlanes never actually owned an L.T.D . But I would love the chance to actually love to have one .
Gotta love them eh! BeAUtiful
Man I miss my AU Fairlane Sportsman so much. Was the most comfortable cruiser / car I've ever had and materials quality was much better than the BA's (personal opinion). Wish I never sold it!
so many cars ive sold i regret selling haha.. always the way i guess :(
I recently did a state to state country cruise in my mint 2000 Tickford Fairlane got plenty of comments along the way from cocky farmers who had Fairlanes and LTDs for the boot capacity and leg room and the long wheelbase for towing horse floats. They all made the comment the trusty Toyota Hilux are great but when you want to go to the city in style. The Big Bold Fairlane and LTDs won hands down sadly there is nothing to replace it in 2022.....
Epic road trip mate
As a french man, I love this Aussie curiosity ! I always wonder why Ford Europe didn't sell Fairmont or LTD in Europe during the 90s, it would be great with 4 and 6 cyl engines. It would be a good alternative of German premium and muuuuch better than the 2nd gen Scorpio...
glad you liked it mate! :)
I just got a series 1 AU LTD (1999) for $2500, sat for 8 years on a farm and now my daily, absolutely gorgeous car but shes rough🤙🤙
Fix it up ! She’s worth it
@@RossReviewsau thanks man!
The epitome of Australian car manufacturing
These things are HIGHLY underrated
couldn't agree more
i love my 2004, G220 Fairlane. my nieces call it the lounge on wheels. lol. my last Fairlane was a 92 NC2 and i fell in love with the 5 liter Windsor. such a sweet motor, loved to rev and it was given a little work ouit every now and then. 😁 i'm a fairlane tragic, every car a fairlane since 1997. lol. over the years; 69 ZC, 289. 78 ZH, 302 Cleveland. 82 ZK, 302 Cleveland. 87 ZL, alloy head 4.1L, 6. 92 NC2, 5.0l windsor. currently a 2004 BA G220, 5.4l Barra V8. not in that order, but should have kept them all.
I used to have an AUII fairlane and I loved it!
gotta love an AU!
Good time ...old meets new with matching wheels. .niice
Love the tickford wheels on it
just when i decided to buy an AU V8 Fairlane because they were cool and at the time cheap the prices exploded! same with the AU XR8!
its so sad eh! AU prices are crazy high
I was very lucky enough to have bought one of these LTD V8 Windsor 302 for $1100 and registered too, i have owned it for 2+ years now
what a bargain !
Another great review Ross!
Funny you should mention the Lincoln name.
I'm fairly certain LTD is "Lincoln Type Design"
That makes a lot of sense actually 😂
Ive also read that it stood for "Luxury Touring Division"
Falcon: hey can i copy your homework?
holden statesman: ok, but don't make it too obvious.
LTD: "oops... perfected it" 😏
I get what you mean it sorta looks like a small WH Statesman but I think Ford's idea was to make it sort of like the Lincoln continental from the late 90s but shorter
Statesman < AU Falcon
In my opinion, these LTD's were better than the comparable Caprice but once the WM came out, it was all over...
The problem with that car is is when it gets to 1,500,000 km you might have to service the gearbox
They really are bulletproof!
HAHA thats a good one ill have to use that next time im in an AU!
Funny ! Service the box every 60000klm , no full flush , just 4 litres of fresh fluid & wipe the magnets ( all 3 of them in an au pan which can be used to upgrade the poxy 1 magnet pan used on bf to fg 4 speeds ) & if used to tow make sure you invest in a decent upfront tranny cooler & bypass the factory radiator based cooler which avoids the possibility of auto milkshake & also keep the tranny much cooler .
That bloody LTD is gorgeous!
Amazing condition!! Credit to the owner
@@RossReviewsau credit to the owner! Probably the cleanest and most well looked after one I've ever seen. But, those wheels? Damn they make it pop.
@@coreyrule7525 thank you mate! I really enjoy driving this thing. Drives like nothing else. Super smooth and really comfy 😊😊
@@johncabrera7695 oh 100% it would! Wouldn't mind taking one for a spin myself!
had a silver au fairlane, sold it for $500 :.(
OMG SO CHEAP
Friend of mine had exactly the same. He sold it for $500 on a trade in. Could've belted the crap out him when I found out.
I'm never going to EVER reveal what I may or may not have done with my VN SV6 & VN SV5000 😭
Freaking hindsight is 20/20
Edit - BTW dope video. I always bucked friends trends of Ford's
RIP💀 lol to be so lucky
Shit thats top dollar for one of those things..
Yeh the sales rep bums like myself had either the xr6 cause you thought you were like "race car" or the family guy had the falcon with the toe bar. The sales manager had the Fairmont but in the Directors spot was the LTD!!!! just to have the Director in his LTD acknowledge your pheasant existence was a feat on its own.
HAHA this is so true! riding in a LTD made you a BOSS!
This AU is FIRE!🔥 (hoon cartel vibes HAHA)
gotta watch out for the hoon cartel in a LTD HAHA
You nailed it. The V8 seems the only proper engine to have in this car. A six doesn't suit this style right.
That’s the one eh mate👏 amazing AU
Hi Johnny, man I've always loved a great Fairlane & especially an LTD even better, the front end looks a 1000 times nicer than an original AU & the luxury & smoothness of the V8 engine they just float along,if I hadn't of come across a near new condition 2011 XR6 Barra with the ZF for a great price when I did,I'd definitely be driving a Fairlane right now 100% lol,top notch vid thanks man.
they do have that rare and premium look to them eh
australian 2000’s model luxury cars looked kool they have power windows air conditioning CD player and technology and lots of safety features
Very cool I’d say eh😎
I own one of these a 2002 in Liquid Silver, 6cyl was one owner car that I knew of since my years working at John Andrew Ford (NZ) in the parts department. Admiring it from 1 year old, owned by a local restauranteur was always an eye catching car. Fast forward July 2020 I bought it for $4k with 128k on it! Cosmetics wise needs a repaint but in general a decent car. The flocked pillar trims on these as models DF, DL prior always added an air of luxury, sadly missing on models BA, BF. These drive well, despite a few mechanical issues the only negative for me is the rear door outward swing is really not enough for its limo status. Earlier models which I own FE, DL have much more room to get in back door. The other point is some of the trim is painted or leather painted grey (light charcoal Ford call it), so common places are steering wheel centre cover wear and show the warm charcoal standard colour. Drivers seat is starting to do this as with some trim that gets handled often. Oh another point, the door carpet scuffs are nasty cheap material compared to prior models fitted with real cut pile carpet! These are a very handsome car especially with original wheels they really hit the mark! Having been a chauffeur for many years, driving many ex-Government fleet I can say the Ford’s were so much better than European equivalents. If you going to get one, get an LTD opposed to Fairlane, just that much a better car! I currently own a 1987 FE LTD, 1996 DL V8 LTD and the 2002 AUIII. Sadly sold my 1994 DC V8 to buy an old bus. Both the 94 and 96 were former Prime ministers (NZ) offical car ‘CR1’ so that has been an extra bonus 👍 Nice video mate! 😉
Thanks for the info! Wow good stuff getting one of these for that price! 👌 you did well.. great cars worth restoring
@@RossReviewsau thank you, yeah sadly over here in NZ the interest for these is not as strong, they generally have been going cheap until recent times. Mine had some wear due to senior owner and age, the plan was and probably still is, is to fix the car up over time. Prices sure are creeping up for XF range here and good low km E series models. Regards to AU LTD’s a couple mint low km types have been listed at $20-$25k NZ. Be nice to see videos for more LTD’s absolutely love them 👍
@@jamespeter1662 Hi James. The LTD in this video is mine. I have seen some of your LTD reviews and walk arounds on YT. I particularly love the 1994 DC you had with the flags on the front. I have owned several LWB Fords. This is my favourite so far. The handling is superb, but all LTD's drive beautifully. Truly under appreciated
That is one tidy LTD mate! Looks so comfy inside
this could be in a museum its so clean! only 100,000km
Great Review again Ross
We have a AUII Fairlane Ghia which I spent a lot of my childhood in until about 7 we got a Prado after that 😔 but kept the Fairlane just unregistered
Wish it was still the family car I’m now 16 and 6 5” and I can tell you those beautiful leather seats and huge leg room would come in handy now
HAHA thats epic.. 6 5'' man you need that legroom! lol
I have always love the Au specially the V8 they are the best work horse
Yes they are! gotta love a windsor gotta love an AU
Super tidy rig, love it
So so clean
I love this car 🚗. So wanted one so bad but was way out of my range but ended up with an Fairmont ghea with the lux pack and it was sooo nice and drove superb. Just gotta love ford's 😎
Oh and I had the black interior just a bit nicer than the Gray
I think you should review the ba g220 next. I tried to trade my 2006 bf xr6t Ute in for one in 2009 but they won't trade. I was complexed with there things. The Ute was in mint condition and I was trying to trade it in for an older car that I liked 🧐 but sorry for them I walked away and boosted it even harder and kept if for a few more years.
nice stuff mate! gotta be happy with a Ghia :)
Yes I was but unfortunately I don't have it any more but got and fg now but I miss the luxury 😫
I used to work for FORD for 10 years up until the late 1990's. This particular model was never seen at the dealership that I used to work at, for as you mentioned, they didn't manufacture many of this model. My dad had a EL FAIRMONT and this model [from the interior of the LTD that you have reviewed] shares so many of the same components. I have always wanted to see what the last of the Australian LTD models looked like, now I have. Thanks so much for filming, compiling, editing and posting this clip, much appreciated. Also, do you know what LTD stands for??? If not, it stands for LINCOLN TYPE DESIGN, based on the USA's FORD LINCOLN luxury car. DM.
AU and NL Fairlanes/LTDs are gorgeous land yachts! Great review, miss my AU boozer!
gotta love a good land yacht eh haha
@@RossReviewsau haha yessuh!
I approve, duh lol.
I have a 98 DL 5.0 in basically the same condition as that DU, I also have a 98 NL 5.0 Concorde in imacculate condition they are so nice to cruise in and are a great contrast to my 300 6.4.
Knew you would love this one😉
Au.. not du. They dropped the D for the au models
Hey Ross, any chance you’ll do a review on a ef/el xr6? They go pretty well in Manual and are heaps nice to drive!
Possibly! im trying to find one!
John definitely has a beautiful example of an Ltd
it really shows he loves his car! so so clean :)
That interior is classy as fuck, ill die on this hill.
It’s so mint eh 🔥
That's definitely a series 3 , the side skirts and curtain style inserts in the door trims say so . Only 350 were made each year of the LTD

75th anniversary
TL50 is the premium high performance
All good rides
really me and the owner were not sure if they officially did the series 3 or not in the LTD
I actually saw a Tickford TL-50 once, it was like a few months ago.
so rare! i hope to review one soon ;)
I had an AU Fairlane Ghia nice car. Very similar to the LTD.
These are cool. Lovely example.

7.2 seconds 0-100 is the equivalent of 6.9 seconds to 60mph

Nice car and nice review mate 👍🇦🇺🍻
Glad you enjoyed it got some bangers coming soon
LTD (Lincoln Type Design)
haha good analogy
Large turd device
@@djvali9577 That was Fords internal designation and is what LTD means.
@@djvali9577 it’s a term coined exclusively by Ford Australia’s marketing back in the day

i would 100% use that service! lol
Very nice. My personal favourite LTD is the DC.
gotta love a LTD
I put ltd front on au ute no badges looked great
ive seen one like that!
The only model where the Fairlanes and LTDs look better than the Falcons.
A lot better than the Falcons.
so nice these cars eh

2:15 bro 😂
man I never see these on the road ..its been years
hidden gems eh mate
Funny thing doors are the same though from au model to bf, they were used as taxi and hire cars
i got a few in the works ;)
These were Canberra Parliamentary vehicles back in the day! The politician's taxi going back and forth from Parliament House to the airport.
where they really!? thats very cool!
@@RossReviewsau yeah the six cylinder version
Amazing channel love it
Thanks so much!
Looking at this car, it gives me like crown Vic vibes
My step dad had one,,,,filthy good car.
the filthiest lol
What do you reckon the future value of these cars are going to be? Just purchased one in mint condition
I have Fairlane Ghia 2002 V8 last of AU's. They'll be worth some money now. Aussie muscle.
I been out of Aussie too long.. getting scared that you are on the wrong side of the road! And great reviews! RIP the Aussie car..
glad i could bring back some memories :)
Pipe holder LOL!
Beautiful car no doubt. If you get an opportunity test drive the BF 2006 G8 5.4ltr. only 151 G8 models made. Absolute cruiser but they have some great grunt if needed. Thanks heaps.
lets hope i can
Yeah I’d daily drive it mark
Absolutely
luxury has always looked good in AUS, have you seen the WB statesman, ZF Fairlane, NL Fairlane, Chrysler Valiant CM, VR Statesman…..
i love big luxury cruisers.. cant wait to see them all here
WB Caprice would be a good one to review
Classical
gotta love these
Mate get yours hands on a p4or 5 . The one with the headlight covers. A benchmark in aussie cars , another would ge a 350 hq statesman another benchmark in aussie cars oh and do'nt forget a 351 fairlane .👍
These things are way more comfortable than modern luxury cars. Don't get that squishy ride and wood and leather anymore. Everything's trying to be sporty and it just fucks up comfy cars. Also love the owner's BP keyring.
100% you are driving on your lazyboy lounge chair! the ride is so good on aussie roads
Tbh the only au thing about that thing is the size of the headlights and the interior
This is mint eh
A very rare car that’s for sure, the last one rolled off the line January 2008, a real shame !!! - Did you ever drive a Crown Vic/Merc/Lincoln back in Canada ? - how does it compare with handling etc.
this one had a suspension upgrade so was much more composed than a lincoln.. very similar cars tho (in a basic sense) would love to drive one again and refresh my memory
Nice!
cheers
When u gonna upload a video of your Ford Fairmont Ghia BF
Needs work still lol
@RossReviewsau ah, what work are we talking about..? Surely it's not a lemon you bought with rust or something.
Love this car
gotta love a good AU!
Wow that is nice..
very very nice eh peter
I remember those grey PVC seats
It's actually Howe leather.
not PVC im sure
The brochure in the glove box of mine says Howe leather. That's not just the fronts of the seats. The entire seat
LTD’s do have Howe leather fully wrapped including rear seat facings, door insert panel, console lid and transmission shifter base, steering wheel too. Fairlanes and Fairmont Ghia only leather seat facings and wheel 👍
The question is does the GPS still work
Sure does! Just has really old maps...
It does!!!
My mate up the road gave me his wifes au ghia fairlane after it was left for six months damn wish i could post a pic
damn! hope you gave it a good birthday after that 6 months ;)
A what holder????
Lincoln Type Design 👍
Fantastic Ford. Very sad end of an era.
These truly are amazing eh
Class yes on the lower spectrum . I've had ltds , fairlanes , fairmonts , falcons . Shit even an XB hardtop In my younger days . I Found them to be ok if maintained . Engines are awesome never die . The car around you falls apart over time as there are a lot of cheap plastic items more so from the start of the XD model on . from there the v8s got chocked and performed shit from factory . I,m a lot older now and my taste has changed to Mercedes benz . Had a few now and they leave the aussie cars for dead .
Why are you comparing cars that have a huge price gap? Mercedes are nice, but the depreciation and some of the repair costs are suicidal!
The Mercedes comparison for this day (E-320/ or even an Avante Garde 1999-2002) is quite bland in comparison. You really need to compare apples for apples. Google a Merc E class for this year and see how badly the interior has fared. Its dismal really. The AU LTD is a lovely car to drive and sit in. Much higher quality. If Ford continued to make the LTD today, perhaps that would be a fair comparison. The handling of these cars is superb.
@@johncabrera7695 I Do one better my first merc was an 1996 in line six e320 ag . And it shit all over my 1997 ltd . Have you ever had or driven any eclass cars ???
@@jasontroy4723 hilarious
@@johncabrera7695 Cheers young man .
Look's amazing, horrible to drive, well the 1999 one my uncle has it feels like it is on it's tip toes and the seating position feels super high. Even the front passenger seat feels way to high. The suspension feels very tight and you feel every little bump through the steering wheel, I don't know if it is just his but the accelerator pedal is strait up and down like sitting on a chair and pushing on a wall with your foot, and is super uncomfortable to use. I love the look and sitting in the back seat is pretty comfortable, it is very roomy, massive boot, smooth engine for the most part. Just horrible to drive. Soz.
this drives amazing!? honestly its the best engineered falcon for aussie roads.. so comfy
@@RossReviewsau not sure was his is so bad lol. It was once a taxi though so yeah haha.
@@datwistyman if it was a taxi it probably had 400,000km and would be flogged and probably need new ball joints and bushes etc.
@@RossReviewsau so I drove it again today, after he put some money into the suspension system, and now I agree it feels good. Jumping out of my S80 into his was a shock and I thought something was wrong with it.

First time I drove it he said it was fine 🤮 🤬. Now it's fixed it feels much better and doesn't feel like it's on it tippy toes.

they really did beat the yanks at there own game holden and ford!
