You remember Over the Hedge, right? You remember that it had a video game, right? If you said yes to either of those questions, you might remember having a bad time with this game. Let's find out if that opinion is valid or not.

Always thought it was super interesting that this was basically a sequel to the movie. Very creative.
Yeah. It's something I feel a lot of games don't do (not like that is a bad thing). Most other games feel like it's separate from the original story which can work out fine, but it's refreshing seeing something new.
@@TheFrozenCavern The only other movie tie in game I can think of where a majority of the plot takes place after the movie, is "Cars". Which funny enough, was released a few weeks after "Over The Hedge".
@@supermariof0521 same can be said for the game based off the Amazon Spiderman movie (2012)
@@demontorch Amazon Spiderman sounds like it would be a Wonder Woman/Spiderman crossover
That was something that i liked about this game was unliked most licensed games based on movies, this one plays itself like a sequel after the first four levels
Thanks for coming to this game's defense. This was my brother and I's childhood. Being fans of the film, we ate this thing up. Everyone else seems to write this game off as shovelware, but it's a legit solid game that offers some good entertainment value, and goes for a unique gameplay style, as opposed to the other generic platformer tie in games.
That is the point of this series. Though, I will still call out any faults that I feel a games has. This game is a childhood favorite of mine with me playing it with my brother as well. People can still have different opinions which is bound to happen and is perfectly fine.
man....you literally said what I was gonna
I remember I use to play this game a lot as a kid on the PS2. Loved the movie and even though this game was a little underrated for a movie licensed game. It was really creative that the game took place after the movie and tried to expand off the movie that’s something that we didn’t get often from movie licensed games back then.
I also remember not knowing what a memory card was when I was a kid so every time I played Over The Hedge I would be playing the same couple of levels lmao
If I remember correctly u can wear all the collectible hats back at the hedge!
one of my favorite games from my childhood
Tbh, this is my biggest guilty pleasure licensed based games. Absolutely love it.
Same here
I for some reason found this game to be my guilty pleasure movie game.
Tbh, same. For right now, this is probably my favorite movie game which is also why I did it first in the set of reviews. Love the movie too.
Same.
What other movie games do you like? Chances are I have already done a review on another one or plan to in the future.
Possib!y Spongebob The movie game.
3:20 In other words, None of the original voice actors from the movie came back for this game.
( I know, i noticed that in many DreamWorks games.)
The Verminator is supposed to sound pretty deadpan. He did in the movie.
I had CD before for this game but I lost it long ago😢
*spits water* THERE WAS A GAME?!?!
There were a few actually. The one I reviewed which most people played, a DS game, a GBA game, and a PSP game as far as my knowledge goes.
there was this one, tried gba one on emulation, didn't like it and idk about the others...but man this one felt amazing
when he said "gladys house" it sounder alot like "glados" so I litterally pictured glados (from portal) to just pop through the cealing and see RJ and Vern
8:55 I love this detail also.
Honestly, I'm kinda surprised this is the only game so far that has done something like this out of the ones I've reviewed. The closest I've come to this (from what I'm remembering) is Madagascar Kartz and their unique dialogue when passing other racers.
@@TheFrozenCavern Off-topic, but I have a question.
So I've checked everywhere in the game possible (I think lol) up and down in all the missions, yet I don't have the 1 extra hp.
Are the other food items hidden in the minigames? Since it's a shame there's no indicator anywhere to remind the player of how many items have been successfully collected.
I remember this being the only game I could finish in one sitting, I probably beat this game over 7 times asa kid. fucking loved the level design and I didn't even watch the movie till way later
This video showed so many things I haven't known in so many years of playing this, like the special attacks, charge attack with hitting your teammates weapon, and many other things. I also enjoyed the video and I agree with a lot of things you've said in it.
Thanks. It means a lot to get comments like this. Even going through the game for the review I found stuff I never thought about as a kid like the jump canceling. This game definitely isn't perfect, but I like it a lot more than other people do.
You Earned Yourself a Sub. Great Review I like this game and still play it sometimes.
Lol I too went into it's depths.
YO a tier list xD. I sort of made one. A cool thinf about Hammy and Stella are that their jump attacks are longer than RJ's and Verne's.
Not sure if my controller, but Hammy's sneak can be inconsitent. I agree 100% with tje finishers.
RJ's introduced me to a lot of new vocab. Vamoose is a fun one.
4:32 oh hi dolphin emulator.
I know you, or anyone, probably won't see this, but I thought it'd be fun to mention.
As a person who played this game to death as a kid, and who had a friend I sometimes played with, I've learned something about this game that, to my findings, NOT A SINGLE OTHER PERSON HAS FOUND.
About the Tornado attack? You know, the one the characters do together by using their energy attacks while being stacked on eachother? The attack that basically causes absolute destruction? Yeah, there's an attack that's on a similar level of power, just focused on defense rather than attack.
I've called it Energy of Darkness (I like flamboyant names) and here's how it works:
Both players use their hold down energy attacks simultaneously; once you do, two glowing orbs will flow out of the players and floating to the other player. When an orb connects with a player, said player will become temporarily invincible. Doesn't matter what attacks hit you, you won't get hurt or staggered.
This can only be done with two human players, cause the AI in the game can't be made to cooperate with the setup. Plus, the energy attacks need to be basically exactly in sync; any bit of delay and it won't work.
I've never heard of this and it sounds too absurd to be true, but I'm definitely gonna look into that.
@@TheFrozenCavern Oh I have proof that it's true.
@@TheFrozenCavern
In this video at 14:47 it comes up. You can watch the start too, as it mentions why they know what's going on. Spoilers: it's me! You'll get it when you see it.

Ok, that's actually crazy. I've never seen that before.
@@TheFrozenCavern Most people haven't.
btw Heather in this game is Kinzie from Saints Row: the Third and 4
This game is awsome 😎 great review pal
By the way Dude! Just to let you know in case you haven't mentioned this in the video, Like many other DreamWorks games, none of the original Voice actors reprised their roles in this game. ( Just like in the Shark tale game.)
It's something worth mentioning, your welcome.
New consoles dont have alot of co-op split screen games even games can do it just dont do it or ask you to join online and this make me sad i have brother and its fun to play together
anyone else remember deciding to just leg it through that one garden square laser grid with those like drone bbq grills?
I do. Very hectic area of the game, especially if you stay around too long.
@@TheFrozenCavern lol yeah, thanks for the nostalgia trip here with this vid though fr
@@TheFrozenCavern there were a few annoying areas, electric floor, double jump wires and before Vincent's cave I kept falling off so yeah
Over the Hedge was one of my most favorite memorable childhood films of mine.
Great video!! 👍
Thank you. Worked hard on it.
4:08 He probably thought it was another kid's cash grab and didn't bother providing any content
You get a like for that tier list. I completely agree with it.
thank you. I put more time into those tier lists than I should admit. lol.
Hey man, glad you go through a lot of these licensed games.
Sadly many of them got attacked just for being licensed and not judged by their own merits.
Could you list which ones were your favorites (like this one I suppose)? And the ones that were really crappy? I'm talking PS2 era
Thanks!
I know nothing about the movie but....I played this solo and with my brother when I was younger.
I've always thought this game was pretty decent as a kid, and playing it now I can say it's still a fun time, I don't see it as a guilty pleasure as it's not one of my personal favorite tie-in games but I think it's a decent fun time nonetheless, it's kinda surprising to me how well the movie and this game hold up in my humble opinion, and I appreciate that the console versions of the game are essentially a sequel to the movie, especially after having played the GBA release before the console versions where that one followed the film's plot.
I’m pretty sure I played the whole game without ever smacking my partner back to life, and this is frustrating looking back on the Vincent’s cave level
To be fair, it's not something the game really tells you about. You'll usually do it for the first time on accident. Plus, for levels like Vincent's cave, it won't matter much as your partnerr will probably get killed 5 seconds later.
@@TheFrozenCavern this...me and my brother hit eachother to life in vincent's cave so bloody often...and we lost on it a few times...our fave bit was probs bumper cars though we did race a few times, was fun but bumper carts was def the best
4:35 But what about Verne?
Wasn't he against stealing in the movie? Why is he on board with it now?
At the end of the movie he kinda accepted it. At least until a certain level
Mine was glitchy it came from xtravvisiom so yeh i dont remember it well..just the golf carting but didnt get to play it wel
There was a shit scary giant bladdd monster at the end tho
This movie was weird, man, and... Pretty fun most of the time
Wait is RJ's VA Wakka from FFX? It has to be!
I recently started playing the game, and here's some things to note.
Hard Mode is not worth it. Why?
Imagine beating one enemy, and it takes long, then it really should (now) imagine getting gang up on.
In contrast, Easy is the ideal way just because it speeds things up. Especially replaying since it's much faster to skip annoying parts.
Don't bother using the Untold secret attacks, like charge up or (wait) button press. Since it really feels like they are never useful at any point.
I actually disagree with skippin the enemies, if anything this game is too much of a beat-em-up
I played this a lot with my younger brother.
This was a game that runs on pure nostalgia to me. I loved the movie and the game as a kid. I still really like the movie but the game is bang average and can get pretty boring really quick. I understand all games to an extent are repetitive, but this game feels REALLY repetitive.
That's fair. Again, this is a huge guilty pleasure for me too. I've been able to deal with it because it's a game I grew up with. I'm sure plenty of people feel one way or the other about this and many other licensed based games.
TheFrozenCavern you can say it’s a guilty pleasure for me too.
I’m just one of those people that will admit when something from my child hood isn’t as good as I remember it being but if it is able to sucker punch me right in the nostalgia, I can never really dislike it. This game is one of those things.
Where can i get a PlayStation 2
You could try and find a seller on Amazon or something like that. If that's not available, you can try and find a local game store (not Gamestop) as they might sell them. Keep in mind that you'll more than likely have to spend a decent chunk of money to get one as they are pretty rare to come by these days. $150 is what I've seen as a minimum without shipping.
You should try to get Marvel Ultimate Alliance video game for this series
Me: "As the biggest fan of Over the Hedge, this game shouldn't be consider as the sequel I've been waiting for 95% of my life. First off, the cast from the movie did not return, including Spider-Man 3 Sandman's Verminator and Avril Lavigne's Heather. And second they misrepresented Heather in this title as she is an in important character of immense beauty and as the love intrest for the character of R.J. as she deserves to be playable in the game. In translation to you simpltons, Over the Hedge is not Over the Hedge without Avril Lavigne."
*And that's a fact PewDiePie
What guilt this game is amazing 😂
Meh i liked opem season and the nut job better but great video cant wait to see more reviews
To each their own, but thanks regardless. Promise to not disappoint. Also, make sure you vote in the Twitter poll I made for which game I should review next.
in 35 seconds you made me say "nope" 5 times in a row, nope! i never heard of this IP before, nope i never saw its film, merely the cover, nope i never knew it had a video game, nope i never played it.
and my interest in this video is already over. next one.
Review Shrek 2
See, you joke (maybe) but I actually could do that at some point. Along with Cars, the Barnyard game, Shaq Fu, Phineas and Ferb Across the 2nd Dimension (maybe). Basically, a bunch of licensed based games.
I'm saying that cuz it's another underrated licensed game
BTW, in case you didn't know, I am going to be doing Shrek 2 next since it won my Twitter poll lol.
