The trans boxer, Imane Khelif, started her boxing career in 2018.
In 2022, Khelif won the African and Mediterranean Championships. She also competed in Istanbul's World Championship that year, and took silver (second place). She was defeated by Ireland's Katie Broadhurst, who's been boxing professionally since 2009.
2020, Tokyo, was Khelif's first attempt at an Olympic appearance. She was eliminated in the Quarter-Final round by another Irish participant, Kellie Harrington. Kellie Harington has been boxing professionally since 2006.
In 2023, Khelif was disqualified from the finals of the world championships after tests showed high levels of testosterone.
2024, Paris, Khelif took home the Olympic gold. She was allowed to compete because the organization that ran testosterone testing in the past was deemed unfair and exclusionary toward trans people for running those very tests.

  • @Omar-kw5ui

There is nuance that a lot of people are missing in this situation.
This boxer was tested by the IBA in 2022 and continued to compete until 2023 when she beat a Russian boxer. She was then subsequently tested again and "failed" the test. This raises several questions. Among them are, did she undergo the same exact tests both times? How accurate are those tests? How likely are those tests to return false positives?
The only piece of evidence we have to go on, that in any way signifies that she's not a biological female, is the statement by the IBA president Umar Kremlev. How familiar and knowledgable is Kremlev with the exact type of testing that the IBA conducts?
The IOC also raised questions about corruption within the IBA, which, is mostly funded by Gazprom of Russia. They noted things like banning Ukraine from competing for political reasons. If the IBA makes decisions based on political reasons, then this throws doubt about their testing that they refuse to share with anyone else. This is partly why IOC has distanced themselves from this organisation. The IOC has also raised questions about the accuracy of the tests conducted by the IBA. Not only has the IBA refused to give any information about the tests conducted, they refused to even definitively confirm that Imane Khalife is not a biological female as far as I've been able to gather. They have only confirmed that she failed their test. These are two different claims, and the difference between both claims is very subtle but important.
Otherwise, I agree with the overarching theme of the take that people with XY chromosomes shouldn't compete with XX. Especially if this genetic disposition manifests itself in the same way it does a regular male (high testosterone , increased musculature, bone density, etc.). There are conditions like Swyer where people can have XY but in fact have female reproductive organs - .ie. lack the testes which produce the large amounts of testosterone in men.

Also, ‘science’ also counts as psychological and social aspects, they are equally as valid. Disregarding these aspects is inherently anti-science. And then to build on your point, people have this misconception that higher testosterone (when comparing males in normal range) is automatically better when its not always the case, androgen receptors play a big role in how your body expresses its traits from testosterone and some males need more test on paper to exhibit the same traits as someone lower than them bc they maybe lack as many androgen receptors. So in the context of natural male athletes, ur hormones dont really play a big advantage. Buy to compare a womens natural levels to a male is such a stark difference that even if the women had many more androgen receptors, it could never make up the huge disparity in hormone levels.

The defect in gonads, not producing the juice, defaulted him to female appearance.
The big issue is that he competes looking like a dude, which means at some point when he started a competitive career he was taking some testosterone. He probably lived all his life thinking he's a girl which is sad, and when he started juicing thinking he's just gonna get a boost in muscle and performance, his XY male biology was very responsive to it and it brought the man out of him, massive boosts.
While it's too late for development of male organs, the XY musculoskeletal is still very responsive and no one should be juicing in a competition that involves hurting another person specially an XY to an XX.

The woman in the video has a lot testosterone due to her condition, not just “more” like the examples you provided. If you really wanted to, you could add something like weight classes, but with testosterone and other measurements, but it’s really redundant in a general case.
Small genetic advantages are completely normal and don’t take away from the sport when everyone participating has a fair chance, biologically.

For example, tall people typically do better at a sport such as basketball. People with smaller frames will do well ice skating. Etc. However, practice and skill are still 100% the main factor. When it’s a woman fighting another woman (with male hormones) that becomes unfair because we are simply too different when it comes to gender and the hormones tied to it. Maybe it is fine for some sports, but 100% not boxing.

Yeah test levels are just a part of the genetic differences all boxers have that can give them an edge. I also don't really get X's argument about it being "dangerous" to fight just her specifically. If she was so dangerous and threatening to fight against she'd probably be winning all her competitions, but she isn't lol. The italian boxer would be in greater danger fighting the world no.1 female boxer than fighting a worse one that just happens to have higher test lmao. This would be an argument IF she was just genuinely dominating the sport and winning everything. But as of right now there are many female boxers with XX chromosomes more "dangerous" to fight than her. She has had a comparatively low KO ratio throughout her career too

This algerian fighter is not a normal person. XY chromosome, incorrect genetial development, and proven to have the testosterone levels of a man. The average man has 700ng/dl of test. The average women has 45. That means the difference between the algerian boxer is 15.5x more than normal women. Making it more dangerous for him to fight women.

Not necessarily in this case, she has Sweyer Syndrome which shows up as XY chromosome but she still has all the features of a woman. She’s always been a woman, she was born a woman

@FISH_IN_COAT There's no such thing as "assigned at birth" You are either MALE Or FEMALE. Males have XY Chromosomes While Females have XX Chromosomes. Please stop embarrassing yourself and being ignorant.

We’re reaching a point where people want the gender barriers in physical sports removed, for whatever reason. If this is the way forward, in combat sports especially, muscle mass and testosterone levels should be tested to ensure that a fight is actually fair. The concern now is that the safety isn’t keeping up with the change in the sport. I don’t really want to see a dude beat up on a girl but some people might want to see the opposite so who cares as long as it’s actually fair.
