- Watch this match of your two favorite teams in the 80s between the Philadelphia 76ers and Boston Celtics. In this game, Julius Erving and company will try to end the 14 straight winning streak of the Boston Celtics. Dr. J @ 37, is nearing the end of his career at this point but let's try to watch if he can still keep up with the likes of Larry Bird @ 29, who is at the peak of his career.

The Doc used to make INCREDIBLE off-balance awkward shots like that all the time because of those HUGE HANDS he has. Just imagine, LARRY BIRD MISSES 2 FREE THROWS with the GAME on the line, and BARKLEY out jumps a center in a tip-off to get the ball to DOCTOR J for a 3 POINT BUZZER WIN, to BEAT BOSTON... you can't make this dream scenario stuff up. 😂😂😂 I LOVED IT!!!
Doc taking it to a prime Larry way past his own prime shows how much of a goat doc truly was just like how he did with magic
Dr. J is an immortal indeed- and I am a Larry Legend guy, but he was another Legend...respect.
@@mikefuchs-sb8pv yup. So many elite of elite legends this game has seeen
Doc took over in this game in the 4th quarter. And finished off the Celtics. Theses teams played WARS
You keep hearing how Dr. J wasn't a good shooter but the Doc could do it all! A three pointer at the buzzer to win the game is awesome! Doc doesn't get his due!
That was pure luck--probably the only shot like that he made his entire career.
@@laudace1764 Then you don't the doctor! He couldn't dunk in College due to NCAA restrictions but he averaged over 20pts a game. So he obviously could shoot! Dunking over 7fters became his game in the ABA. Do some research before running off at the mouth!
@@juanitayancey3553 Didn't need to research it--watched him play his entire career. He was a terrible long range shooter, a poor medium range shooter when he joined the NBA and eventually became only a mediocre medium range shooter. He was great with the ball in the open floor and around the basket, but not at anything else. Hope that helps you out.
@@laudace1764 No because I watched his entire NBA career so I don't need your help! Why shoot long range when you have a powerful dunk or finger roll you can use on any given play. Even Larry Bird said the Doctor had a mean bank shot that he had to defend. So why shoot when you are a master at breaking through defenses and getting to the basket for scores.
@@juanitayancey3553 Because teams learned to pack it in around the hoop late in the game to force him to shoot from the outside, and he couldn't do it. He threw up a desperation prayer in this game, and it got answered. But, the Sixers didn't win the title until the year that they got a dominant performance inside from Moses and great outside shooting from Andrew Toney. Those two were the difference makers in winning the title, not the Doctor. Julius was a fine overall player, but he was a step below the very best players in the league.
I attended this game! I was all of 18. Incredible ending. Can't believe Bird missed two free throws!
wow. now you're 53 sir?
Actually, I'm 54. I didn't turn 19 until September, and this game was in April. I remember it was raining pretty heavily the whole day. My family and me drove home to MA directly after leaving the Spectrum.
U watched a legendary game💯💯
@@denzelwashington991, indeed! But to be honest, back in the 1980's-1990's, every matchup between Boston and Philly was an instant classic.
So was I. Guess what. 6:15 when Doc shot his last free throw. Look at the flash upper right at stands. That 📸 was ME!! Memorable day despite one of the nastiest 🌧 day April 6 86 but inside Spectrum was electrifying!! Doc hit that shot went CRAZY!!
Julius the old guy still making big baskets. 😅
Larry, Dominique, Julius and MJ is my all time favoritez
Doc just took over.
4:53 vintage Doc.

The announcer jinx on Bird was HEAVY here
Celtics best team of the 80s and they still had trouble winning in the Spectrum
Still can’t believe Larry missed both free throws.
same here
Hey it happens, great players do choke once or twice in their careers, Magic missed both free throws in the 84 finals game 4, that might have won it for LA and I'm sure Jordan has also.
Exactly
I can he not perfect
His prime time 1980s style larry bird is human , dream matchup dirk nowitzki would've ❤️ playing against 1980s Larry bird, 50s points scoring parade playing against broken back& bad feet Larry bird ,, Larry bird against Larry johnson , larry johnson would've ate up a 🐦 🐦⬛ 🦜 sandwich & ate up 🐦 🐦⬛ 🦜 🍲 soup
Larry Bird missing 2 free throws !!! Don't see that much !! Especially in clutch time !!
Recently re-read Dave Barry's Guide to Guys. Surprisingly, he does not undersell this moment.
Legend
Somebody recorded Doc's last home game at the Spectrum when he went for 38 to surpass 30,000 career points. HELP LOCATE IT.
i will try sir

Dr J retired the next year but clearly had more years left...FTR Julius made 2 3's in this game..no fluke luck shot at the end.
Larry had too many beers the night before.........
I think you're right. 😆 🤣
Dirk nowitzki & lebron james & Nikola jokic each 😅would've ❤️ playing against broken back & bad feet Larry bird,
This is one of the best NBA regular season games ever. One of the best games in the great Celtics-76ers rivalry and the 76ers beat the Celtics, without their best player, Moses Malone.
There was just something about the spectrum which always brought out the worst in the Celtics
@@zt1053 Perhaps it had something to do with the fact that everyone in the City of Philadelphia hates the Celtics. Including the Irish there.
Get 'em Doc! Bird choked! 😅
Yer crazy if you don’t believe Larry Bird could still dominate in this era. He’s unguardable
Kobe said, he was slow. but I don't think Bryant can't guard him either. As Kareem said, he's the best player he has ever faced.
@@TaongGrasa1974
That clip with Kobe where he said that….I think he was being partly humorous….he went on to say something to the effect that Larry was on his starting 5. I wish I could find that interview. I think context is important, and if that tiny bit of Kobe saying “he’s slow” is all you see, you’re actually getting the wrong impression of Kobe’s opinion of Larry.
@@irishgrl let me know ma'am if you find the link. 😊
@@TaongGrasa1974
Here is a video (different interview) where Kobe puts Larry in his starting 5. Time stamp approx @2:40

@@TaongGrasa1974
This link shows what Kobe said Immediately AFTER he said “he looks slow as shit to me” In fact, Kobe highly respected Larry Bird. He OF ALL PEOPLE knew what Larry Legend did to his Lakers.

That about the only way they could beat; the Celtics!!!
I was so mad when the bucks beat the Sixers in the playoffs both in 86 & 87 because it cheated the Celtics out of revenge between the two end of season games at the spectrum that they lost
How does Barkley at 6’5” get the tip VS a 6’10”.... 8ft wingspan
(EIGHT FOOT WINGSPAN 😳)
McHale ???
How ???
Becows he white.
(I’m white)

🙋🏼 🙋🏼♀️ 🙋🏻♂️
UHHHH
I CAN ANSWER THAT QUESTION 😳😳😳
WHY..... they☘️are isolating with Bird. That’s FN OBVIOUS!!!
Am I missing something?? Because Bird sure AF ain’t.
Doc had an ugly jump shot
Great mid range, either side off the glass. Try to shoot a soft ball, and u will see the challenge of why it looked weird.
Dr.j love to bank his jump shot, we'll machael Jordan did have a alot better jump shot than machael Jordan, I ❤️ dr.j my hero, dr.j better airwalker than machael Jordan
Larry was better than doctor j. The better all All around player.
No doubt. Nobody smart would say otherwise. 😅
Dirk nowitzki & Nikola jokic & LeBron james each would've score 50s points scoring points parade playing against broken back & bad feet larry bird 😊
The title should be Julius Erving vs Boston fanatic uploader.
