- I was asked by a buddy of mine to make a piece of furniture for his wife's birthday. They needed a new spot for their kids to put on and store their shoes, and I was glad to help!
Here's the video I mentioned by Fix This Build That: • 6 Ways to Plug or Fill... . Go check out Brad's channel! He's a good guy and makes some really cool videos.
As always, the video was shot and edited entirely on my iPhone SE.

Finally finished building your entry bench and shelf today. Thanks Kyle. Hope you're able to publish more videos in the future!
Very nice great work 👍
This is very cool. I am building similar item for my kids. Good stuff
Thanks! Let me know if I can answer any questions to help.
Love it 😍
Thank you!
I am a fan of how easy you made it look. I am about to build one myself and I think I'll use your way of you don't mind. Thanks a bunch sir.
Absolutely! Glad you like the design. If you have any questions along the way, feel free to ask.
Sweet... nice n easy 👍👍
I have just done the exact same thing with firing the nails too far through......thought all was going too well haha. Oh well
How do you attach the shoe divider?
How did you attach the bottom to the top/back??
Does it stand alone and/or is it screwed to the wall??
It’s screwed to the wall. The family I made it for has several kids, so I didn’t want to leave it unattached at the risk of it falling over.
What is the size of the wood planks u used thank you 😊
Buying my first home soon and this is going in. Did you mount the backing to the bench or just the wall behind it?
Joel Greene I think I just mounted it to the wall, but it’s been a while 🤣
Cool
I have a heating vent on the floor where i would add this bench, what would you recommend
I’m not sure how I’d handle that. You could possibly build it as I did then cut out a rectangle where the vent is once you’re done with a jigsaw. But I’m not an expert, so take that for what it’s worth.
Do you have any plans for this?
2:54 you have taller shelves for the shoes or whatever at the bottom.
But at the end, you split them space into half. I believe I missed something in the video?
We are getting a dropzone (similar to his but standalone one as part of the floor plan) in our new home. I want to split the space horizontally to fit more shoes. And in future I want to add the shelves on the top to store some other items and to use it as a cupboard/closet to really store the jackets/coats without them getting any smell from the kitchen area.
That was actually a bookshelf that we had in our garage. Totally unrelated 🤣
Kyle - I've been looking for a mud bench for our entry and this looks great! How wide is it (estimate?), and how tall is it?
Thanks! It’s been a while, but I remember it being about 42” wide and 72” tall.
@@NelsoncraftTX I'm about done with gluing the boards together. It snowed all day yesterday here in Austin so the glue ups were taking for ever. If I never have to glue boards together after this project that will be okay with me. One more question. I'm trying to guestimate the depth of the shoe bench and the top shelf. I'm thinking bottom bench is about 20" and top shelf is around 10"? Thanks again for producing this video. It gave me something to reference. I've added a few more views :)
@@cwhitmore88 20” and 10” is about right, to my recollection. It’s really just a matter of what works best for you personally and the space. That snow was really something, huh?! I’m up by Dallas so I feel your pain 🤣
@@NelsoncraftTX Yes, the snow was nuts. I've lived here and in Dallas over the past 30 years and have never seen it snow that much. I thought I was close on the measurements. I'll let you know how it ends up. BTW - I just subscribed. You're 4 from hitting 1,000 subscribers. Hope you're able to post more videos in the future!
@@cwhitmore88 thanks! Life got crazy for a while but hopefully I’ll get back into it in the future.
How to make a sliding door for this shoe rack
I don’t know! That’d be a good video idea if I could figure it out.
Do you sell these? I need one i live in the mesquite area and would like to know if you can build one i have 5 kids and i desperately need one 😂
Unfortunately I don’t! This was a one-off for a friend. I know how you feel with all my kids!
I hope you don’t mind. Around how much did you spent on this project?
Daniel Ruiz it was about $300 if I remember correctly. It’s been a while though 😁
It would be a lot less if you used plywood... And quicker.
Do you have the relative measurements and if so, do you mind sharing them?
I sure don’t...I could reach out to my friend and see if he could measure it for me. I think the important thing is to remember that it’s built for a certain space, so design it for your space and measure relative to that.
Im glad you asked, I was getting ready to do the same thing :)
Do you have the plans for this that you are willing to share?
Unfortunately I don’t. I just built it using relative measurements as I went. Sorry!
