FINALLY ON CZcams a video that doesn't just focus on shoulders, elbow or legs flexion which actually doesn't come first in the kinetic chain. If one focuses first on forward weight shift and hips rotation, the serve becomes much easier and constant.

Good explanation. There's no question that rotation plays a huge role...it acts like a Force Multiplier just like the shoulder over shoulder is an another Force Multiplier that gives your arm additional acceleration. Pete Sampras was a great example of both rotational moves...he had his back to the target and his left cheek was well into the court just prior to contact guaranteeing that rotation from 2 different sources. Rotation is so key on the serve as well as on groundstrokes...it explains why small kids well under 100lbs are able to hit powerful forehands and backhands without really having that much strength.

This may be the best serve video I've ever seen. So many little details that just aren't talked about, and presented in such a clear manner. Thank you Tom. I will be sharing this. Keep them coming.

Great video Tom! I discovered the benefits of body rotation on my own and was amazed how much it added to the rhythm of the whole motion

This is great. I feel like I’m struggling with my entire body rotating around the spine axis

Love the video. Looks like your toss is relatively low and begins at waist level. The finish looks like a slice rather than a flat serve.

Hi Tom. I serve with an Eastern grip and I can get crazy spin. I can't understand why people say you have to use chopper to get spin..? I stand sideways on like Johnny Mac which came about by accident as I struggled with chopper. My grip feels much stronger serving with the Eastern than with chopper - although for volleys chopper feels stronger. I'm a bit confused really :)
