On the early versions of the unofficial Minecraft oculus quest port, the loadstone was incredibly useful, because there was no way to type or access coordinates. You can't just change the spawn to be to the end islands, as that risks not being able to get a world to update with all it's chunks still loaded. The only way to avoid this would be to add a new portal type that skips the end dragon fight entirely, but since you'd need a new Portal type, mojang won't add it, as it'd take too much effort besides adding 1 mob and 2 block types a year.

The Nether and Overworld have a special flag for their dimensions: "BedExplodes" and "AnchorExplodes" or something along that notion. If it's true they will explode as they would.
This can even be set up to make the bed work in the nether and the respawn anchor and vise versa. Even mods that add custom dimensions could utilize this to allow those respective mechanics to work.

I like that your implementation does give it a nice way to distinguish it from the other two and really fits into the theme of the end. In general the end is in need of an update and this would be a great part of it. Mojang even said they would have to fix the current dimensions before adding a new one, so I suppose that in one of the next few updates we'll get an end update and this would be quite useful in it.
And I think that some variation of this was already planned, just judging by the fact that it wouldn't make sense for the soul anchor to not work in the end otherwise, which I learned the hard way.

I would love for the End to not be a fully fledged dimension, but rather a giant dungeon dimension. Keep it looking at a similar vibe, but make it filled to the brim with far more varied loot and different types of structures. Add more blocks and scenery objects, more ender mobs.
With the end relay, it’s almost like saving your progress in the dungeon. The dragon island is still the same. The dragon has made it devoid of everything except the pillars and the endstone they reside on. But once you kill it and make it to the end islands, you are in the “dungeon”. As you get father, you’ll want to save your spot because you don’t wanna go through it all again, so you use an end relay. You can build in these new End islands, but it wouldn’t be encouraged. It’s not like the Nether where you can actually reasonably thrive is you spawned in there, there’s not a proper tree block and getting too good loot is impossible without some decent gear. And growing your own plants like trees and grass would be made impossible in the end because there is no sunlight.
You could even treat the End Islands like a roguelite game, giving yourself like a stone sword and seeing how far you can go as you get better and better loot until you die and have to entirely restart

The End could really use an overhaul, and something like this would fit right in. If it would be too OP for players to craft it, have the dragon (or a new boss like an End version of the Wither) drop a compass that's already linked to an end city. The player then only crafts the relay to teleport to that city, which generates with an anchor.
Something like that would make the End easier to explore AND give more of a reason to redo boss fights. Need a new pair of elytras, just fight the dragon again and go to a new End city.
(Of course this poses the problem that someone else might've already found that End city the old fashioned way so you're teleported into an already looted city, but I think it would still be worth it)

    The only flaw with this:
As it was stated, it would have no benefit in any other dimension, just the End.
Basically you could build ice highways as it's possible in the Nether, because ender pearl and elytra transportation is basically locked on to be an End dimension thing.
It would be a quick-use warp back thing, but only in the End, basically its use being relegated to only being used for quick transport to End workstations (enderman farms and "end bases").
I think, the only use for end bases is to flex. In a casual playthrough, finding and making all the end crystals needed to power it up is not easy. In the End survival is not possible, so End bases are only used to store vast amounts of items. Still, going to the overworld to get more resources is only via the portal. It would still require nether highways and there-and-back transport methods.
It would only benefit technical players. Building ice highways in the End is something i have never seen anyone do.

cannot overstate how much of a genuine positive addition i feel this would be to the end. I feel like it would honestly fit right in with the ends "glitchy teleporty" aesthetic, while also encouraging players to build and do things there that isn't just mindlessly loot and pillage, while occasionally making use of the local efarm or killing a dragon or two,
there is a reason 90% of what players do in the end just revolves around the main end island- and this would fix it, without removing the end island's significance- since it would still be the only way in or out of the dimension (barring dying to get out)
This is one of the few suggestions I've seen for a completely new mechanic/block to the game that I have honestly wanted to be implemented in its entirety, cant think of really anything I feel would need to change.
really hoping we get this block implemented in its entirety, would help with End Busting, Encourage building in the end (i know I would), and would also make lodestones more valuable (I love lodestones cuz I personally prefer survival without coordinates, but I also understand doing so on a server puts me at an inherent disadvantage, and removing coordinates at this stage in the game's history would not be a good idea)
was less certain in the beginning when i first heard the idea, but after learning how it only works locally in the end, how that would not affect external dimensions as they do not link the same way the nether and overworld do, and the fact it would complete the "Holy Trinity of [Intentional Game Design]", I'm sold
Surprisingly well thought-out and fitting addition to the game, praying mojang add this

Have it admit this is a really ingenious idea. I never really thought about how long it takes to travel the end but now that you mention it I DO notice a huge gap of my time spent end-game on servers was flying through end resource worlds for HOURS coming across empty city after empty city. Even on servers that regen the end dimension you're still probably better off just grinding the money used to buy one for like a million because it'd be much faster than pillaring around and throwing ender pearls to make those nail bitingly large gaps across the islands.
My thought process is that the gateway portals should exist naturally in the outer lands for easy teleports back to the main island and then follow this process loop once the initial dragon is killed: VVV
End portal > Dragon (Drops Elytra > Rename Advancement 'To Infinity and Beyond' or 'Falling With Style') > Firework Show (Drops some firework items) > Players put 2 and 2 together to find out they can fly with firework boosted elytra > Head to the outer islands > loot structures > return home quickly with gateway.
If more people want more elytra's then make the dragon drop another after being respawned at a % chance instead of a guarantee on the first kill, that way even after the first dragon dies at least SOMEONE should have an elytra or an easier way to obtain one.

This is actually extremely fitting for the end dimension. Both the nether and the overworld have their own unique mechanics and uses that gives you a reason for existing in those dimensions. The only unique mechanics you have in the end don't really have any pull that makes you want to stay. You can kill and resummon a dragon, farm enderpearls, and explore to find resources like the elytra and shulker shells. All of this is cool, but all the reward you get from that can just be funneled back into your overworld or nether bases. On the other hand, this mechanic not only gives you incentive to build in the end, it also exponentially increases its potential with future additions to the dimension. Overall, it makes the end feel more included in the game.

“Warp mechanics non-vanilla” my pink booty, a literal stasis chamber with a chunk loader is arguably cheaper, and works in nether+overworld (i.e. non-exclusive to end only)
Having netherite in the mix not only solves the issue with “bro, this thing useless”, but also makes it difficult enough to get, so that it’s balanced
    Edit:
You could say that “balance” flies out the window as soon as Stasis is mentioned. Valid point, until you realize that the sheer amount of obsidian you need for chunk loaders (the 69420 blocks long line of restore isn’t gonna load itself) is absolutely insane.
Here you bring up another point: isn’t the difficulty gradation supposed to be “easy OW, hard nether, harder end”? To which there is a rather simple answer: traversal of OW and nether does not require new resource or luck. You can MAKE traversal methods in OW and nether, while also getting resources. Warping is NOT useful. Wanna go through the struggle? Sure, but WHY, when it’s a grind?
In the End, the situation is different. You want to traverse? Use the pre-set disgustingly awkward portals, or find an elytra. FIND. Luck, not skill. Now, if you wish to warp, you will need a lot of crystals, instead of copious amounts of obsidian. That requires a farm in the nether- it’s hard, but it isn’t a grind, therefore is skill. Our gradation is maintained, and the end isn’t a mess anymore. Balance. Time + skill = ease of access and saved braincells, which is exactly what we want from the game

For me, the end city dimension could just be re-generated every time you enter. Minecraft doesnt work with limited itens, I believe that is the biggest reason the Ender Dragon egg doesnt have a purpose, and I remember I saw a video saying why armor trins were a problem, not only they *virtually* incriase the difficulty to upgrade armor, but they also make so there is a limited amout of this item; this can make so only a few people can upgrade their armor and another few can put decorations on them. Elytras are in the same state, they are a limited item that you get from exploring, so my solution would be that when you enter the portal it generates a random end city with defined borders (x by x) and is this dimension there is garanted you can get a elytra, when you leave it it gets excluded and the next time you enter it will be regenerated generating another random setup.
Of course, since Minecraft already made the end cities in the default end dimension we cant just delete it and put my idea; so what I recomend is that we leave the end dimension as it is and we make a block/portal that can only be -made- (only works) in the end and that block/portal will teleport you to this temporary dimension. The block should be craftable from itens you can getter normaly, but we can make it hard to make by using *choros fruits, end blocks and netherite* (we could even make something similar to blue ice, even though that is just virtually incriasing the dificulty).
And the last thing I would like to add would be, how would it work for multiplayer? What if I want to help my friend? Well, I have 3 ideas:
1º Every player get its own dimension that gets deleted when they leave it (this is bad cause this blocks friend from playing toguether).
2º The dimension lasts until the last player leaves it (This raises another problem, what if we are in a public server and I want to seach for an elytra without interupting the other player? Or I want to make a friendly competition to see who can get an Elytra first? Welp, too bad, there is only 1 public dimension, *BUT* I fix that with the last option:)
3º The dimension last until the last player leaves it, *BUT IT IS PARTICULLAR TO THE BLOCK/PORTAL* , that means friend can help each other in the same dimension AND players can compete or another player can just go for another dimension without interupting the other player! We could even make so the block changes a bit, like the nether anchor, when a dimension is rendered (at least 1 player is inside it or log out inside it) or the edges of the portal change.
Last thing I would like to add, _damn that was long_ , even though Im not a big fan of mods, I remember a witchery mod that you had to build a structure to enchant/make stuff; you know like how the conduit only works (I believe so) if it is surounded by a structure? Well, if you want this portal this temporary dimension to be even harder to get, you could make so the portal is not like a normal portal, but a whole structure and when that structure is complete it activates.
Well, tanks for reading all of this and I would just like to add that english is not my primary language so there must be a lot of misspelling errors, please forgive that.

The only thing I'd fix is make the crafting recipe use a normal compas. Then to use it you right click with an enchanted lodstone compass. You'd still need each receiving end to have its own to teleport back, but it just makes the block a little easier to manage

Honestly, this is well thought-out, balanced, and extremely useful. It's similar to a datapack I made when decorated pots were introduced in their first snapshots (before they had actual inventories), which let you click on a pot with a bound compass and the pot would become a teleporter to that location. (That version worked in all dimensions, though, and didn't require refueling. The pack... probably also broke as soon as pots got inventories, tbh 😅)
Since the aesthetic theme of the End is "alien ocean", having the blocks look like actual anchors -- or some twisted version of them -- would be pretty cool, too! Maybe even replace the top-middle slot in the crafting recipe with a chain to emphasize the anchor shape?

Chorus plants are not meant to be coral, shulkers were never intended to be clams, and have so few similarities with them that it makes me think you ought to google clams as well, and a few other mollusks and tidal creatures while you're at it, the term island has been used to describe fantastical landmasses suspended in atmosphere with no central gravity since the concept was properly concieved literally hundreds of years ago, the concept of flying boats has also existed long before Minecraft and are a relatively common trope in stories that use floating islands as sort of a worldbuilding joke poking fun at the aforementioned linguistic quirk, and the idea that levitation is somehow buoyancy doesn't even make sense unless you're already coming at it with the idea that there needs to be an ocean aesthetic in the End, like its such a ridiculous stretch its not even funny

  • @TwentySeventhLetter
    @TwentySeventhLetter Před 4 měsíci +3

I did some more thinking about this after my first watch, and I'm interested in either making or commissioning a mod which implements this. My ideas on it are below:
I like this idea because on its own, it takes away the impenetrable vastness of the End while retaining its void-like quality. Plus, with the ability to go TO other dimensions but not FROM them, it’s like having a Terraria Magic Mirror but way cooler, and more involved with extra steps, and harder to do, and still not as powerful. It would also make activating more strongholds serve the purpose of providing access points for the central teleport hub all across the ~30k x ~30k area around (0, 0), meaning the stronghold structure isn’t just one-and-done. All that coupled with the free teleportation throughout the End dimension making a central hub that isn’t just the dragon island free up the center for repeating the dragon fight, it’s just an excellent idea.
I understand some concerns regarding the future-proofing of the idea, but I think the vibe of The End can be preserved, and balance can be maintained, while still allowing free transport to locations a player has already visited. Nothing about this addition makes exploring any easier than the Elytra already does, and the excessive traversal times would be fittingly mitigated by the more expensive fuel of End Crystals vs. Firework Rockets.
I think the Recovery Compass does present some interesting directions this idea could be taken, as a player could choose to travel with a lodestone and leave a waypoint in a safe area near somewhere they think they might die (storing a compass in their ender chest). This would work, but it’s awfully clunky and does risk losing a Netherite if not performed properly. The idea that a player could calibrate a relay with a recovery compass is interesting, as it would send different players to different locations, though some may believe this to undermine the penalty for dying. I would wager that your items are still dropped and scattered, and you may still die in lava or the void.
My proposed interaction is that a relay may only be fueled when it is equipped with a compass to calibrate it (after all, the fuel wouldn’t do anything if it didn’t have a destination). If calibrated with a lodestone compass, operate as expected according to the video. If calibrated with a recovery compass, then use an Echo Shard in place of an End Crystal, and send the interacting player to their death coordinates without requiring a lodestone. The player would still be sent into the void/lava if that’s where they died, the echo shard would be consumed, and this would still only be possible when executed from The End dimension, meaning players may need to travel before getting to simply teleport to their death location. Echo shards are not very useful currently, and are extremely scarce, but this functionality would both give them the prestige they deserve, as well as not completely indignify the comparable solution also presented by the mod.

    • @samueldimmock694
      @samueldimmock694 Před 4 měsíci

Given that this block only works in the End, where the Void is by far the greatest threat, you could avoid the problem with the recovery compass (making death meaningless) by making it only work if the destination is in the end. Though it would be nice to make this optional, to give players more control over how punishing death is.

One of the only downsides I can think of is that this makes player transportation in the end very quick and easy, while the other two dimensions are stuck to traditional (and rather bad) methods. Wanna get from your base to your farm in a very specific biome thousands of blocks away? Go to the Nether roof and elytra fly there. Wanna travel someplace not too far away but is very difficult to reach from the ground? Elytra fly there. The elytra are one of the only real transportation methods and have their own problems, so adding a warp mechanic but limiting it to the late game dimension that most people won't have a serious issue with seems as unfair as the April Fool's updates adding features that people have been begging for but limiting it to a fake snapshot.

Overall it feels like something they would do for an "End overhaul" which might actually be fun.
