- LET'S GO 1968 includes Jimi Hendrix Experience (Jimi, Noel Redding, Mitch Mitchell) and Vanilla Fudge interviews by DJ Terry David Mulligan. Host Fred Latremouille introduces DJ Daryl B and his Vancouver group the Northwest Company with lead singer Rick McCartie. The Canadian Broadcasting Corporation's national series featured each weekday a half hour show from 5 different cities across Canada featuring young Canadian singers and bands. Initially titled "Let's Go" the series title changed in 1967 and the shows updated to include bands. Previously each location had a house band with guest singers. I truly enjoyed this historic footage. Wish I could have been old enough to have seen Jimi Hendrix live in 1967-1970, And be able to turn back the hands of time. RIP Jimi, Noel, and Mitch. You truly left your mark in music history.

The guy interviewing Jimi is Terry David Mulligan. He is still alive. He is 79 years old.

Yeah, the DJ / Manager says he doesn’t like Gary Puckett & Union Gap and then his guy comes on and sounds like a 3rd rate Gary Puckett impersonation.
All the way through the song I was thinking VF does that song.
The Northwest Company I knew in the 70s were a 3 pc band led by Ray Otoole who went on to play with Blue Northern. A pretty good rock band and way better than these guys

Very groovy...indeed. ove the seriousness and groundedness of the Hendrix Trio Interview. sometimes I think,why wasnt there a hendrix fanatic,stalker who filmed every damn show..ect... or better yet, good God, Like the Grateful Dead Head's,followed and taped damn near ever show,tons and tons of them... alas we get what we get ,its happened,already now. thankful for what we've got remaining of one the most incredible Geniuses to ever walk the Earth. Saw Jimi Hendrix at the coliseum during that tour, there were 4 bands all together and Jimi didn't finish until around 3 am I was only in grade 7 quite an experience especially watching all the older kids tripping out ,the music was great however. I believe after that concert curfews were invoked.

I was just talking to my older bro last night about Vanilla Fudge and he mentioned that he saw them with Hendrix in San Diego. Well well well here I see it on YT.
I wah at that show too! We were sitting on the floor in row H.. It was a great show only surpassed by the show the next year when Cat Mother and The All Night News Boys opened, followed by Chicago Transit Authority, and closed by Jimi doing Voodoo Child with Jack Casady on bass Noel on rhythm guitar and Jimi playing his butt off!!!

I got to see Vanilla Fudge (and Soft Machine) open for Jimi in "68. There was electricity in the air.

About the Experience and about this concerned period , autumn 68 , they recorded one last track which was " look over younder " , then Noel Redding quits the band to form his own group , Fat mattress ; few months later in february 69 at the Royal Albert Hall /London , they oppened for the Jimi Hendrix Experience so Redding play twice a day .
Jimi used to refer to Fat Mattress as Thin Pillow. He wasn’t impressed by Noel’s band.

I was born in April of 1960. To watch this now is pretty cool as I had never seen this until today . I’ve never really “ Grown up”, but as I’ve aged and gotten older I still remember those early days of my youth fondly . The music that came out during those 60’s & 70’s was really diverse & interesting to say the least . Lots of “ Kid - bands” out there trying to find their own sounds. Jimi , Mitch & Noel definitely did just that , and this video is proof as to just how well ahead of everyone else they were . Thanks for posting this gem & sharing this epic video. 😎👍

Yes Canada used to be way, way behind the times when it came to the latest music and technology. Things that came out in the USA, wouldn't come out in Canada until a year or two later, if Canada even got it at all. Thankfully things have improved and now Canada gets things at the same time as the rest of the world.
I heard that Jimi Hendrix hated "The Vanilla Fudge" but he loved "Chicago" especially their lead guitarist Terry Kath.
Wow Jimi loved Chicago, my x was also friends, and knew quite well on e of the band members was actually from The South Suburbs!!! Besides Jimi Hendrix!!

They were nothing more than a cover band playing overwrought, dramatized renditions of songs that other, more talented people wrote. They were nowhere near the level of music quality that groups like Cream, Traffic, Hendrix, etc. were. A guilty pleasure maybe but no self respecting freak would play one of their albums when hanging out with friends.

Daryl Burlingham was hired by CFUN Vancouver boss Red Robinson to replace Fred Latremouille in 1965 till 1967 when he moved to CKLG till 1969. He returned to both CKLG and CFUN from 1973 to ''77. He is quoted as saying "This is Daryl B on CFOX Radio and we're taking care of business." Randy Bachman of BTO was listening and thought that was a great line for a song.

It "is a big fat draag" to know people [in the 60s] didn't know how to "react to this music" that's better than ever before. So they had to rely on imagery and gimmicks ...

Interesting camera angles. Fascinating to hear Hendrix during the Q&A. Jimi, Noel, and Mitch, RIP. I love Canada, The Guess Who, Gordon Lightfoot, etc. However, IMO, and I mean no disrespect, this show does not compare with the programs I watched during the '60s on LA TV stations while growing up in SoCal: The Lloyd Thaxton Show, Hullabaloo, 9th Street West, American Bandstand, Where The Action Is, Shindig, etc.
Since this was in the Pacific Northwest, and around the right time, I wonder if this was just after "The Fudge" filmed their infamous "Mud Shark" groupie at the Edgewater Inn in Seattle, that Zappa and Zeppelin immortalized in song!

Great upload... ridiculous that Northwest would even attempt a signature song from Vanilla Fudge's first album with a Vanilla Fudge interview being shown later. Jimi Hendrix hits the target right on the head and his thoughts are as relevant today as they were then!. People have been force fed Radio GA-GAGA and simply don't understand the difference anymore. We can blame it on the Disco Era and D-J's in general.
Northwest Co. had a song on the first volume of garage/psych comp "Turds on a Bum Ride."
Other people are saying that but I suspect it may have to do with contracts and royalties. It is a small budget local interview show so they would have to pay a large Artist Performance license fee to these bands to perform music. If they have someone cover a song they have to pay a smaller royalty to the publishing company. They had to have some music so it would make sense they used a local band who played similar music to Vanilla Fudge to cover them. Nobody was gonna dare cover the Experience nor could they.
@@myradioon The royalty fee is likely the same no matter who performs it. Take Me For A Little While might be a Vanilla Fudge signature song but it was written by Trade Martin, Vanilla Fudge doesn't get any royalties when someone else performs the song. It would be more costly to pay Vanilla Fudge for the live performance but a license fee has nothing to do with it.
@@geneobrien8907 That's what I meant. They would have to pay the more well known bands a bigger performance fee because they were bigger and their promoters demanded it. The show didn't have the budget so they went with just paying a songwriter royalty for a smaller band to perform the song. I'm a gigging musician and a songwriter. They would otherwise have to pay a big fee for the individual performance that night AND license the ability to broadcast/rebroadcast that particular rendition/performance of the song.

Hendrix . . .understood even to the end. 1969-Memphis the JHE; played before 10,000 in 10,000 auditorium. 1970--Memphis: played before 2000 in 11,000 coliseum (9000 empty seats). I was there both times.
NOTE: look how LONG Jimi's thumbs are; gave him ability no one else could grip the guitar. Of course, these thumbs were given him by his MAKER, the LORD. (John 3.3, 33-34-)--

They go from Northwest Company playing Take Me For a Little While right into a Vanilla Fudge interview. That was confusing for a minute. Actually took me about 24 hours to figure it out.

GREAT SHOW.I knew the Fudge well and played drums with Leslie West Vagrants. GREAT GROUPS to come out of Canada were LIGHTHOUSE.THE GUESS WHO. Another great band though they never made it big. THE MANDELA.George Oliver was their lead SINGER and was later replaced by Dave Clayton Thomas who went on to sing for BLOOD SWEAT AND TEARS

Saw Hendricks at the Coliseum with Fat Mattress and Heir Apparent I remember Noel Reading playing in one of these bands this was my 1st concert...the ticket price ?....$3.50

Mitch sang 'Little Miss Strange'... the lead vocal..?? Always assumed it was Noel singing cos it's his song...Mitch on 'backing' would kinda make more sense, but what Jimi say's, go's. Great tune. Great to hear them talking highly of each other about that tune and so they should, It's a masterpiece.
I was quite surprised to hear them mention ELL, because they all look so young, and I always considered the last JHE studio album to be later on, somehow...
Didn't Noel walk out halfway through recording that album...yet here they all are...🤔🤷🏻♂️🌈❤

Well to me these bands and rock stars like Jimmy where like gods to me. I loved seeing these old bands in concerts back then that was a blast. I use to travel around in my 1950 Chevy panel truck. I made into my party wagon. Floor to ceiling fake fur lots of kool pillows, crazy paint work. It really disturbed my teacher back in high school. They looked at me as if I was from another planet. I always had my electric guitar with me jamming away everyday. I used to write to Black Sabbath asking to play or work as a roadie with them dream on ha ha.

I wonder why he thinks that Union Gap sucks. After listening to that song, it's not according to my taste at all, but it also seemed very typical song for it's time.
It *was* typical for its time. The Top 40 was full of decent pop music in that era. But the Top 40 included everything in those days. You heard Tom Jones on the same station as Steppenwolf, Iron Butterfly on the same station as the Archies, Johnny Cash on the same station as the Supremes, Cream on the same station as the Fifth Dimension. All that on the same Top 40 station.

Mulligan was wrong that Hendrix "had never been to Vancouver before". In fact Hendrix visited there a lot in his youth, because his grandmother lived there. It's only a 3hr drive from Seattle, where Hendrix was from. He even went to high school in Vancouver for a semester. At the PNE Colosseum show of 1968, Hendrix's grandmother was in the audience. Kinda strange that Hendrix never corrected Mulligan, I guess he figured it'd be rude to.

On one of Jimi's LP sleeves is a photo of a note he left his father about going to Vancouver to do a show. "See you when it's over", he wrote his Dad.
