  • Listen to Rainer Maillard and Sidney Claire Meyer of Emil Berliner Studios (EBS) explain individual aspects of their incredible all-in-one process for remixing, remastering and directly cutting the lacquer for manufacturing for these recordings. From the analogue 8-track tapes to a 17-LP edition, the signal processing is analogue all the way and involved EBS building a new custom deck!
The long-awaited edition is now released.
Herbert von Karajan and the Berliner Philharmoniker realized several recordings of Anton Bruckner’s works together. Those of the nine symphonies made between 1975 and 1981 however, have achieved a cult status. Limited and numbered and befitting the cult status they have won, the analogue recordings (symphonies 4-9) have received the white glove treatment that has been launched to critical acclaim with the Original Source Series. The superb Rainer Maillard and Sidney C. Mayer at Emil Berliner Studios have been able to extend their previous procedure with 4-track masters now to master and cut from the original 8-track tapes.
Symphonies Nos. 1-3: digital recordings from 1980 and 1981 - have also been newly mastered and cut by the same team, optimizing the sound through utilising new bespoke digital-to-analogue conversion technologies.

I’ve listened to them all now after having them only for a few days. Job well done and keep up the great work. Cheers

Fantastic video. I never realized it all came down to how good a recording studio's stair case was :-). Of course there is more than that, but found the topic of reverb recreation fascinating.

All that meticulous effort, only to then dilute and smear the result with an uncalibrated, improvised reverb chamber?

What an unappetizing discovery when you litterally “hear” from the echo chambers! Good recordings should respect room acoustics as is and - like a good red wine - sound natural, dry, warm and woody and reveal lines and details of the music.
