I would give this book 4 stars, it was my first read from this author...I read it in one day, it was extremely readable...my only hang up would be that I feel like it could have been longer and spent more time getting us to have a stronger connection to the characters..I had enough of a connection to cry over some things in the end, but I feel like I definitely could have had a stronger reaction if given more time with the characters

The end of Amelia's story is what got me hard in the book...but the shoemakers end I feel like didnt really hit me that hard and again I feel it was because the characters werent spent enough time and depth on

Because he didnt care that she was Jewish until he was told that that he should care he seemed very sociopathic
