In the 2013-14 season Michigan State finished 13-1. The Spartans won the Big Ten (beating Ohio State in the regular season and in the B10 Champ. game) , won the Rose Bowl (over then-#5 Stanford), and finished third in the final AP Poll. Notre Dame's victory that year against MSU is frequently overlooked when Brian Kelly's tenure is evaluated simply because it was an early-season win (fourth game for both squads, and the pollsters did not yet appreciate how good Dantonio's team was since it had not faced a serious challenge before the ND game). Ask any Spartan fan, and they will tell you how important that game was. I don't know that a 14-0 Spartan team would've ended up #1 in the AP poll ahead of undefeated FSU, but it certainly would have had a legitimate case to make. At worst it would have landed at #2 over a 12-2 Auburn team. I'm glad to see it at least made this list, albeit ranked much too low IMHO.
I remember that Pitt game.... had no business winning haha.... also if i was a stanford fan I would still be bitter about the ref blowing the whistle.... Oh well, a win is a win, thanks for posting
That game was nuts, I was supposed to be going out that night and Im literally all dressed up ready to go and I was just standing up looking at the TV losing my mind while all my friends are asking me where Im at hahaha
I was at Hershey park with my brother and dad for the Pitt game, we had just about finished but I think I was on park WiFi so we couldn’t leave Anyway, I had my phone because my dads was slow and sometimes mine was. Well my phone ended up being behind his on coverage so basically three Notre dame fans (2 of them are 12 and 6) are screaming and cheering and it was a great time hahaha
Kelly never won the boogers games.. beat up on average teams.. his bets win was in 2012 at Oklahoma.. Freeman will do a much better job I think and already is recruiting much better
I can honestly say that I’ve never had an appreciation for Brian Kelly… He was a very lazy and mediocre recruiter, threw his players under the bus, and many reports of not having his team ready for games ( that one is obvious). We don’t know if Freeman will be a good coach but we know he’s off to a great start on the recruiting trail.
