- "Bowling Stars" was a filmed, syndicated TV series that aired in the 1950s pitting two top professional bowlers in a three-game match, with the winner decided by total pinfall. The final frames of the second match and the entirety of the third match were shown. This week's episode shows reigning champion Billy Welu against Johnny King. "Whispering" Joe Wilson, who was the original play-by-play voice on the early "Championship Bowling" episodes, calls the action. Originally telecast in 1957 from Faetz-Nieson Recreation Center* in Chicago.
*More recently known as Ridge Bowl. See:

Never heard of this King fella. My goodness i dont know HOW.
Love watching these old "figure-8" crankers!
Thanks for posting these gems. :) They're so enjoyable to watch.
Bowling Stars was well known for its ultra high scoring environment. The show featured multiple 300 games and Carmen Salvino topped the scoring with an 846 three game series (one of three 800 series during the show's one season run). Once I interviewed Carmen and asked if the lanes were "groomed" to give high scores to the pros. All I got was a was a look and a word about "dark boards".
you can see dark boards on the lanes. and they both threw out at them. hmmmm

when i go,f i dont ask for the ole’ Billybarrooo….i ask for the Billyweluuuu
I love how King puffs on his big cigar as he waits his turn.
Unfortunately, this is the only Bowling Stars match I have. As for Wrong Foot Lou Campi, I do have one rather oddball thing of him. Search my channel for the two parts of a rather peculiar little syndicated series called Celebrity Lanes. Just type "Lou Campi" into the search box on CZcams and it'll come up. There's not a lot of him on it, and it's a very weird format. But at least you can see ol' "Wrong Foot Lou" again. And a very young Chris Schenkel "paying his dues." LOL!
great memories of watching these bowling heroes of the past really surprised seeing King light up a cigarette in the 3rd game Glad that is no longer allowed!!
So funny to watch the old guys going nuts over every strike.
Why is that guy wearing a Groucho Marx disguise?
