    How great the chasm that lay between us
    How high the mountain I could not climb
    In desperation, I turned to heaven
    And spoke your name into the night
    Then through the darkness
    Your loving kindness
    Tore through the shadows of my soul
    The work is finished, the end is written
    Jesus Christ, my living hope
    Who could imagine so great a mercy?
    What heart could fathom such boundless grace?
    The God of ages stepped down from glory
    To wear my sin and bear my shame
    The cross has spoken, I am forgiven
    The king of kings calls me His own
    Beautiful savior, I'm yours forever
    Jesus Christ, my living hope
    Hallelujah, praise the one who set me free
    Hallelujah, death has lost its grip on me
    You have broken every chain
    There's salvation in your name
    Jesus Christ, my living hope
    Hallelujah, praise the one who set me free
    Hallelujah, death has lost its grip on me
    You have broken every chain
    There's salvation in your name
    Jesus Christ, my living hope
    Then came the morning that sealed the promise
    Your buried body began to breathe
    Out of the silence, the roaring lion
    Declared the grave has no claim on me
    Then came the morning that sealed the promise
    Your buried body began to breathe
    Out of the silence, the roaring lion
    Declared the grave has no claim on me
    Jesus, yours is the victory, whoa!
    Hallelujah, praise the one who set me free
    Hallelujah, death has lost its grip on me
    You have broken every chain
    There's salvation in your name
    Jesus Christ, my living hope

    Hello! I have not yet watched enough of you to know if you mention this anywhere, but I notice something else with this "style" of singing (the more contemporary sound) that includes changed the sound of the letter S from sss to almost "sh" (Sean Connery style!) , as well as adding a T sound to the found of S words like "to" (sounds like tsoo") I feel that is a common thing with this style...yes? (or yesh?)

    • @worshipvocalist
      @worshipvocalist  Před 4 lety

      I think perhaps there are some singers who sing Connery-style S’s (haha!), but I wouldn’t say that’s a common thing for this style. But a word like “to” making it softer with the S sound-yes!

    8:59 What I do when the old lady at church tells me the worship too loud :)

    • @worshipvocalist
      @worshipvocalist  Před 4 lety +1

      It's hard to please everyone! Some think it's too quiet, others think it's too loud! It's best to have a clear vision as church leadership of what your sound levels will be, and why-and that will be the answer to anyone asking. :)

    • @chrisbradley1629
      @chrisbradley1629 Před 2 lety

      Us older folks often don't hear so well, particularly the higher registers. If the sound system is distorting or muddying the sound, that increases the difficulty. A clean clear sound can be quite loud and people won't mind because it's easier to listen to. Typically discjockey bass heavy mix doesn't work well for congregational settings; keep it clean, minimise effects, avoid feedback, and the complaining will stop.

    So I struggle with getting emotional with this one .... how do you combat tears while singing? Is that a weird question? Cause when I’m singing these words it hits me hard in my heart and I get choked up with it. Is there a way to still have the emotional element and not just bawl? Lol 😂

    • @sarahpqtattoos
      @sarahpqtattoos Před 3 lety +1

    • @worshipvocalist
      @worshipvocalist  Před 3 lety

      Not a strange question! If it’s in a worship leading context, I think it comes down to understanding what our responsibility is as worship leaders-to lead people in confidence, strength, and with as little distraction as possible. Singing while crying is definitely very difficult and distracting, so ask the Holy Spirit to help you put aside the “excess” emotion and lead confidently!

    Beautiful; great for a soloist performance; not so useful for leading congregational singing. I want to lead them in their singing, (to me THEY are the singers of import) and they would have a hard time following this. Not a criticism, just sharing another view. Love to you! Appreciate the good work!

    • @worshipvocalist
      @worshipvocalist  Před 5 lety +6

      I appreciate your comment, and I absolutely agree that our primary responsibility is to serve people and lead our congregations well - however, I don't think a blanket statement of "they would have a hard time following this" is fair. When these techniques are done well, and in the right context, it is not difficult for a congregation to follow a leader who is singing on pitch, with good rhythm, AND incorporating artistic, stylistic elements into their singing.

    • @jimstarfiegener8638
      @jimstarfiegener8638 Před 5 lety

      The Worship Vocalist I should have clarified when I said “they” I had in mind my very multi-generational congregation. My goal is their participation so we sing as straightforward and easy-to-follow as possible. Living Hope is such a great song. Thank you Phil. It’s theologically rich, evokes emotion and is very singable for the average person.

    I've been singing to myself for about 30 years, but very few have heard me. I post random songs (all genres) on my social media and get good reactions. My gf has suggested for me to use my blessing to worship and praise. I'm self taught and never taken a vocal lesson nor do vocal exercises other than what I've learned on YT the past few years. I'm open for lessons now as is like to take this passion of singing amongst other things to optimal level. Personally, I will never profit a penny for worshipping Christ, so I want to share myself to as many as possible in Christ's glory. That's it...simple servitude. #servantleadership
