Canary Wharf New Year 1992 Fireworks Laser Light Event

- For New Year 1992 the One Canada Square skyscraper at Canary Wharf in London's Docklands hosted a laser light, search light and fireworks event.
I went with my camcorder and tripod.
Having filmed this I thought that I ought to share it; its not as painful as torture but if you were expecting something spectacular with cutting-edge electronic music by someone such as Jean Michel Jarre, then prepare to be gobsmacked.
1992 itself was a far more exciting year in a way that could be said to be entirely fitting for the superb high quality enthralling display that it did not begin with. - Zábava

I was there at the base of the pyramid, on top of the building, working on this project. Your poorly shot piece of film play really doesn't do the event justice.
Poorly shot? What my camerawork or the image quality? Please remember that we did not have HD or 4k ultra HD in those days.

The Canary Wharf Tower! That’s when the London Eye was not Built yet so they decided to do it in Canary Wharf!
Yeah The London Eye wasnt built until 1998
In fact, New Year's Eve wouldn’t even be centred on the London Eye until 2004.

I think it was because there was insufficient width to show four digits.

Yes, I think it took about 7 or 8 years for the Docklands area to become popular with businesses and commuters. I wish I'd walked around that area at the time, although it would have had to have been with my family since I was only 13 in 1992. Interesting that in the early 80s it was a complete wasteland.
yep I went up it too! you could see windsor in the distance! wasn't glamorous the top floor - cables no ceiling tiles etc. I had just moved onto the island - fab times.
Now the views of London are mostly from the London Eye.

I think the red lights were located in the windows on every floor. The white lights were probably searchlights.

English.
We speak a little language called British English. We have a unique dialect ya see.
