I have created a Ko-fi page because a number of you had reached out asking why I do not have a link for donations. Understand that I do not ever want my exploration of all this great music to ever be about money, but I appreciate the feedback and support that I have received and have decided that I will provide this option. I will however, ensure that my beautiful daughter benefits from your kindness! Much love to you all! 💝

One of their operating principles is that they will not perform a song in a video unless they can also do the same song live. And that commitment shows perfectly in this performance. I didn't think it was possible, but this reaction combining both recorded and live, has even further enhanced my love and respect for PTX.

Notice how they often sing with their eyes closed. They are really in tune with each other and listening to each other is imperative for their good harmonies. So glad you appreciate their talent and that you listened to both the "Official" video and a live version. That usually makes believers out of skeptics (not that you are one) that their live performances don't live up to their videos. I look forward to more of your Pentatonix (PTX) reactions. I just subbed and am going to watch your reaction to their "Daft Punk Medley".

Welcome to the PTX rabbit hole… great to compare the official video and live back to back, just shows the raw talent. The videos are slicker and better balanced, but they don’t need much, if any tweaking. In newer videos they do use audio filters/effects more to explore the limits of what sounds they can produce a capella, but talent is still there.
Also definitely worth checking out Kevin the beatboxer’s solo work - totally amazing.

So glad you did the second one. There is one of daft punk, but with no mic for the beat boxer I think that is the only thing that needs the volume boost. Their earlier "coach" videos put 1 mic up front for Avi and Kevin. This was great! 😁😁😎

👏I'm SO GLAD you reacted to this song it's a PTX original. 👉Just know that this and Daft Punk are thr only ones that have that futuristic vibe. PTX has LOTS and LOTS of covers and originals and MANY MANY genres. Some acapella groups only sing in a certain gente and others are gimmicky. PENTATONIX has time and proved to be ABSOLUTELY AMAZING setting the bar SKY HIGH!!

  • @nickerpsg1

In case you've not been told by other Pentaholics, they NEVER record any video that they can't sing live. Another example of this, is their live performance of Hallelujah in NY at Xmas time (2016).
Keep up the good work and enjoy the journey.

So glad you did an original one! They're honestly so versatile and I appreciate that you're looking at the breadth of their catalogue. (I mean, next step up includes individual projects and Superfruit but that deepens the rabbithole even more!)
So, so love the playback of studio/official + live actually, I haven't seen anyone do that and it's a great layout I think.

They were in Pitch Perfect 2, playing the Canadian champions (even though they're from Texas in real life). It's really cool how you did this private live performance of Love Again after the official video. Gives you a chance to see how they are able to perform even the most complicated arrangements live with little difference in sound quality...even with no mic mixing at all! That live Daft Punk performance is mind-blowing too.

About the great Avi/Matt bass divide. Pentatonix started on a TV competition, the Sing-Off, Avi Kaplan as bass and Kevin Olusola as beatboxer really made them stand out and they won. Both had extensive musical performance and competition experience before they came to Pentatonix.
Avi left from touring burnout in 2017. It was all out in the open and announced as a group on May 12th, 2017 leaving plenty of time for people to see him on Pentatonix American tour through September 3rd, 2017. His sister, Esther stayed on as Pentatonix tour manager until 2019 when she left to have her first child.
    Avi leaving PTX statement
    czcams.com/video/JU244kTWH-o/video.html
Matt Sallee joined them in December 2017 on trial as their new bass at their Christmas show and was formally made a permanent member very shortly after that.
Avi returned to music in 2019 as a singer-songwriter. He is not in a musical genre that directly competes with Pentatonix pop offerings nor is he acappella anymore.
He is however very eclectic in his songwriting. This is one that you might enjoy. His most successful original has been "Change On the Rise" that is theme music for a podcast Relative Unknown and has been used in the SyFy series Resident Alien. Another original of his, Chains, is used on The Blacklist.

I'm glad you did this one next, as well... and I love the live video so I'm glad you found it, too. They have a lot of excellent live versions for their earlier songs hanging around, sadly not as many good quality live ones more recently. The Daft Punk one that tried to start on you is another really great mic-less showing.

Much thanks for getting to this one and doing both the studio and live! You're going to have fun going through their tracks. They can do almost any genre, their originals are more popish but all bangers. They have individual music too if you want to dive into that a bit. Superfruit (Scott and Mitch) do upbeat stuff you'd hear in a club, Avi's solo stuff is spiritual not as upbeat, Kirstie's EP is pop, Kevin's first EP is listed under classical but it's mainly celloboxing (beatboxing and cello at the same time) his other EP is more singing and more popish, Kevin also had a side group Tripyq which is somewhat jazzy-pop.
