Very nice, you have several bits of kit I would like. I have been looking at these Jerven bags for a number of years. I'll get the cash ready...I like your pack as well.
Great review! If you were going to use the Jerven Hunter only with a closed cell sleeping pad, what would you estimate is a realistic comfort temperature rating for night time sleeping? Do you put the pad inside or outside the Jerven? Thanks for any info you can provide!
Nice question 🙂 place the cell foam inside the bag. With my clothing system which can handle zero celsius for prolonged hours I would not use the bag below 8celsius. Their extreme bag with the same set up, I can take to 4 celsius. If you can, always use a sleeping bag inside one as these bags as they are a survival bivy/poncho and not a dedicated sleep system. Hope that helps.
Each has its own preference and use. If you want to go lighter then get the uninsulated. I like to use mine as that extra warm final outer layer then always sleep inside it at night.
Thanks Boris 👍🏼 no great problem of condensation. I've slept inside this with base, mid layers and a my minus 2 comfort rated sleeping bag but that's usually at minus 8 or below celsius in the Czech Republic and tested in humidity between 30s and 80s and woke up perfectly fine feeling warm and dry. I wore this as a poncho all last year when I got to camp and stopped moving. Kept me nicely warm. Nowadays I wear it's bigger brother the Extreme bag 170g/m2 Primaloft which has almost three times the insulation. That's a better bag for winter sleeping. Also a bag with little condensation. It's insurance against when things go really wrong.
I also love my Jerven Hunter bag and always bring it with me. I however always get condensation inside it - you don't notice it till you pack it and take it out again. Summer or winter. For me the key seems to be to sleep with my head outside the bag, which isn't always nice. I use it in my hammock, or as a cocoon or when on patrols during longer periods of sitting still. Its a very modular piece of kit that is expensive, but really awesome. Would buy it again. Regarding the condensation - its not a deal breaker for me, but if on a multi day trip with no chance to dry it out during the day, its going to get less inviting as the days go by to go to bed and if you're using down inside... its going to get wet. I have tried to sleep with it all the way open, all the way closed, semi open and closed and in various setups, but always get some or a lot of condensation. Our team which all have the Jerven Hunter experience the same "challenge" alas various personal setup and sleep systems inside. Regardless its a piece of standard kit in our arsenal and always comes out on patrol, summer or winter. Nice to see more vids on the Jerven @Beards and bushcraft. Would like to test te extreme bag someday. Thanks for the video-
Had the Jerven Hunter for a couple of years and mostly use it when hunting to keep warm, it can get too comfy, fallen asleep a few times.
Haha yeah it can have that effect. The extreme bag is even worse for it 😂
I guess we like a lot of the same swag. The Jerven is a good piece of gear and the camo works well. I have the mountain version.
Only this comment now mate. Apologies. Love this bag
I have that connor HPG bag v1. Great bag
It sure is 🙂

Hey what do yall think about use cases versus the original version with no insulation?

Great video thanks! Is there great condensation problem inside??
