  • Welcome to the World Athletics Watch Party, join the conversation on Twitter with our hashtag #WatchWorldAthletics.
In a brutal race of attrition, Joshua Cheptegei of Uganda capped a glorious year by securing the world 10,000m title to add to the world cross-country crown he secured in March.
Cheptegei, who shared the pace with Kenyan duo Rhonex Kipruto and Rodgers Kwemoi for much of the race, was rewarded by out-slugging Ethiopia’s Yomif Kejelcha in a thrilling final lap to land the title in 26:48.37 - the second-fastest time in World Championships history.

At 25:20 or so you can see how relaxed Cheptegai's face is, so it's clear he had it covered. The man is a marvel, considering how he kicked on so brilliantly in the fragmented 2020 season. Superb running all round.

Too bad he can't break records on the track without fancy wavelights 🤣

Kudo to Kipruto for pushing the pace, he has a pretty smooth running stride, he just lack a bit of raw speed to be the best on the track, but he could be a MONSTER on the road. To me he has the perfect style to establish the new HM/Marathon world record.
