My dog got hit by a car and has been on pain pills and was constipated for 2 days. I emptied out a human enema and put warm water in there instead. I took him outside and used it on him and rubbed his belly for a about 3 minutes and he finally pooped. I was so happy!

@@christophersteward5720 smart thinking, you can even add a tablespoon of quality flax seed oil or canola oil, even give a tablespoon for avg/medium size dog teaspoon for smaller dogs by mouth but that might take a few hours or longer especially if motility of bowel is compromised. Unsweetened can or pouch of pumpkin 🎃 purée (no seeds obviously) also works in case of constipation OR diarrhea as well.

I took my female Australian Shepherd mix regularly to the VET (at least once a year) and followed the vet's advice and she is now 16 and 2 months... that's 112 in people years... she is showing her age, sleeps a lot, needs assistance, requires me to take her outside, requires my assistance to get sometimes, and is showing the signs of a dog the is 16... she still shows a lot of life in her beautiful brown eyes...

We just got back from vet ourselves with one of our German shepherds. He wasn’t pooping, wasn’t eating, only drank water. Blood work came back normal, X-rays were done because we thought maybe he ate a toy and wasn’t allowing him to poop. X-rays were clear. Pancreas was good too.. and finally after all the vet bills the reason why he wasn’t eating was because he has gas inside his stomach. So we finally got him the right meds and now we are waiting for the turnaround.

My 5 year old female pitty has a very bad habit ot stealing treats and she ate about half of a 60oz box of milkbones including some pieces of cardboard and wound up obstipated about 6 hrs later with a mass about the size of an orange stuck in her rectum it would NOT come out. We tried to soak her in the bathtub and helping her remove it ourselves with gloves and gentle pressure however this did not provide any relief. I tried the fleet enema and yes theyre safe as long as your dog is about 50+ pounds they can prove deadly to small dogs and cats. Unfortunately I was not able to administer the enema as she became snappy from pain and we had to take her to the animal hospital and she required an enema, IV fluids, lactulose, and morphine to pass the mass as the vet could not palpate her colon or manually remove the mass. Im so thankful she has become able to pass stool on her own. It was a very scary and stressful situation for her and I both. You can also supplement their dry food with pure canned pumpkin no sugar added to increase fiber or do Metamucil as this vet recommended.

My dog got constipated all the sudden, I thought it'd work itself out, tried different things, he just got worse and worse over 2-3 days.. By the time I saw it was bad and that he needed to go in, it was hard to find a vet who would see him right away. So we had to wait and wait. I should hv taken him in way sooner. Or at least taken action right after seeing he couldn't potty.
Update: he didn't make it.. and HIS BLADDER WAS BLOCKED UP. I thought he was constipated, he wasn't, his bladder stopped up from crystalization of his urine, turned into almost sand like, swelling his bladder inside him and blocking everything, eventually shutting his kidneys down. It might look like constipation but could be a bladder issue.

Do Not use fleet enemas on your dog or cat. They will mess with the animals electrolytes could cause vomiting and other problems. I give my babies pumpkin out of the can when they have trouble. It takes a little bit to work but if your pet is prone to hard dry poops giving pumpkin daily will not hurt them. Give dose depending on animals weight. If you ask google how much pumpkin to give a 12 pound dog or 60 pound dog it will give you the reccomded amount of pumpkin for them.
