- Well its here folks! The first day of the river season and just like the last one I'm out targeting chub with the hard baits. This time focussing on bug style lures! The aim of the game was to try and get some awesome top water blow ups on the lil bugs then move over the small sub surface baits to nail these aggressive river fish. The water was nice and clear which made it awesome for spotting these fish and watching them crush the bait. Hope you enjoy!

And The Environment Agency plus the Forestry Commission do more harm than good , hardly any ponds or pits left in Cheshire they destroyed them all nearly, causing massive natural unbalance in English natural waters disgrace! It’s official you’re the best, I know people will say have you seen this channel and that channel, but in Britain we have so many dynamics that make it so much harder than the likes of the Americas , Australia and the likes , I can assure you if you leave your big toe in a puddle longer enough in these places, your guaranteed that something will be attached when you pull it out , so different in so many ways, Chris makes it look easy , I can assure you it’s not , he’s the best official ❤️

@@FelixFiske environment agency controls everything in England land and water , you can’t fish without buying a rod license per rod , if you don’t they come all gangster with you massive fines , to cut the weed in the river was vindictive, they know it’s going to be full of anglers on the first day of the river season, but they turn a blind eye to local authorities dumping raw sewage into the rivers, meant to be protecting the environment and the anglers , total opposite in my opinion
Excellent Chris. Those Chub are looking in fine summer condition, especially in the sunlight. ☺ And the EA weed cutting is just stupidity. These people are supposed to understand and care for our rivers and fish and a lot of the time they don't seem to have a clue and do more harm than good. And that's what we pay our rod licence for....😡

Agree with your sentiments. I have written several times over the gross stupidity of this. Another issue is it changes the flow rate as well as the depth. We can have water that is 3 to 4ft deep dropping to inches when the weed has been cut. Absolute waste of our rod licence
I was in the centre of leeds stood at the edge of the canal where some narrowboats were parked, the water was maybe 3 feet deep or so at the edge and this pike loomed out of the darker deeper water and i aint kidding it was albino, i have a photo of it, against the dark coloured weed below it, it stood out, never heard of white pike.
Albinism can occur in any species that has melanin in their body, I think...

Why would they weed cut so much on the first day of the season, when they know full well that the banks will be lined with anglers.

Love watching you catch fish on the more unusual baits/lures. I do it a bit myself and had a 12lb pike on a bit of KitKat foil and then a 26lb mirror, 22lb & 19lb common carp on Wine Gums. Now the new season has started I'll have to try a few of your lures and see if I have any luck 🙂🍻

Thd salmo lil bug is absolutely fantastic i have caught so many fish with here in the uk and europe and USA i have the small versions in every colour and the large version is 25gram size 2 hook there fantastic for big water pike the small version will catcg anything i had over 100LB of chub in germany lovely pikeand trout zander big mouth and small mouth bass and musky in USA,fantastic video chris loved it awesome session mate every lure angler should have a salmo lil bug in there kitThank You chris,

my first ever chub on the lure was 5lb 8 i was spinning for pike with a bright yellow lure some 34 years ago but my biggest was 6lb ten on cheese

Amazing fishing like any on floa bait. Have the same Salmo baits, bug and tiny. But "bug" stil not resulted. But Tiny is my favorit. Try to find Smith Camion, I think SSR perfect for this river. 01 and 08 colors top for Ukraine I think any natural color will be good. But one thing it is more expensive than Salmo, but it worth it.

I have got that brown one. Did you ever try to let it floated like the dry fly? I wonder if you catch smth because here at our rivers it's the better way to catch the fish then it's casted 🤷♂

Why do they take all the weed up? Cannot understand that, as you say that cant be good for the fish? Never seen that in the rivers in centeral scotland.
Damn , when I watch your videos I realize how poor with fish rivers in my country are. I've never caught a chub bigger than 2 pounds. I compete in chub fishing + I make small UL lures for it. I can catch 50+ a day, but they are just not big as those in this river

I think Chub are just naturally aggressive, as well as pretty voracious...
