Remember at the beginning when Cesar was on his phone and Layne yelled at him? He was actually filming on his phone and the footage ended up in the BTS.
Also, all their jewelry (bracelets and necklaces) that they were wearing in this video as well as the sheet music Layne was holding was offered in one of their charity action, so patrons now own a piece of the video.

VoicePlay used to perform a live show at Walt Disney World every Christmas season - you can find several videos on CZcams if you want to see - and this arrangement (or pretty close to it) was used in those. That's why the 'bright green dress like Tinkerbell' line is there. Geoff would sing that line with all its bassy goodness and the crowd would cheer like mad. 🙂 (I just looked it up, the Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party from 2017 is the clearest video. Plus it has J None!)

Check this closer next time you listen to the part about the '8 reindeer'. Layne managed jingle bells! And this does have a Geoff written bridge in it.

My grandmother had the original version of this song on 8-track. I can tell you with a high-degree of confidence that it was not pitch-corrected, because the technology to do that did not exist at the time, nor for another couple of decades thereafter. It's possible however that some of the voices may have been recorded at half-speed (which would raise them by exactly one octave on normal-speed playback, without distorting them in any other way apart from, obviously, doubling the tempo). VoicePlay, of course, doesn't need to do that either. None of those notes are a stretch for any of them.
The main trick to making a run sound good (aside from just having a good voice and tone and all the other things that apply any time you're singing), is to hit the *right* notes. Figuring out which notes are the right ones can get pretty deep into the weeds of music theory, but that's the trick. If you play it safe (only hitting notes that are part of the current chord) it sounds perfectly acceptable but not necessarily impressive or spectacular. So ideally you want to work out which notes from outside the chord itself you can get away with as passing notes in between the notes of the chord, and still have it sound good. And of course you have to have the precision and vocal agility to hit the notes you intend to hit, not some other collection of notes at random, and not too much flatter or sharper than you intend either. For bonus points, if you have control of the entire arrangement (as e.g. VoicePlay certainly does), you can also have the background parts move to different notes during the run, allowing the run itself to be built over multiple chords, further increasing the number of distinct notes it can use. (Or in some cases you can even have the background parts drop out entirely, so that the run only has to harmonize with the bass line or, even, with nothing at all, or nothing but percussion; in which case you can do things that would otherwise be dissonant, like full chromatic runs.) And, of course, if you have a lot of vocal range to work with, you can use multiple octaves, further increasing the length and scope of the run.
And yes, I've definitely heard singers do runs and hit wrong notes. It does not sound good. Adam Neely can say whatever he wants about there being "no wrong notes", but in a given musical context there can definitely be some notes that sound markedly better than others.

I LOVED this reaction, I love the Christmas/Herdmas Intro and Outro, I adore the Christmas vomit in the studio (LMAO) but I do want to point out one teeny tiny thing in case you didn't notice it (if you did, I'm sorry to be "that person")...
So, in the song, the line "So listen for those nine reindeer" is ended with sleigh bells. Sleigh bells that are vocal percussion by Layne. He has done it on live chats previously so it is not an effect in post, that is LayneBells...

My parents had a record with this song on it. Maybe the 8 track too. My older sister (10 years above me) absolutely LOVED the Chipmunks. I liked them as a young child but grew to cringe at the voices once I began to learn how to play in the school band and refined my ear for music. VP made me love it all over again.

Back in the day, they would record of the voices of the actors at a regular speed, then play it back at a faster pace. to raise the voices to the higher pitch.
To show this affect, simply play this video back faster and watch Dylan go full Alvin.

I totally agree with you on the Chipmunks thing. I watched the show as a kid, but as an adult, their voices give me a headache! And I'm SOO on board with Cesar as Alvin, the mischievous little sprite! I love DeeJay's nod of approval at the "Hamilton" line, he's like, "Yeah, come see me! Great idea!"

So how they do the chipmunk voice is that they record the people doing the lines/singing slowly and lowly, then they take the recordings and speed them up and then it sounds like what you hear the chipmunks doing.

You must view / react to Charles Cornell's version of this song...done completely seriously, as though it was a jazz classic. It is both amazing and funny in that it is NOT FUNNY. Trust me, it's perfect.
