This is a long overdue video, but thankfully, I'm a big believer in better late than never! I got to visit the Democratic Republic of Congo for the first time in 19 years. I left early 2003 and hadn't gone back since.
I wasn't staying in Lubumbashi when I was in Congo though so all that I saw was really for the first time. I got to clear lots of misunderstanding and misinformation given to me whilst growing up in SA about the Congo.
I absolutely had a great time in Lubumbashi & Kasumbalesa. I loved my people! I didn't get to do the tourist kinda things as I had very little time in the country but I'll definitely go back this year and do some of those things!

Thank you! Yes, home really is home and it's incredible that somehow our hearts are really connected to our home. I hope the many diaspora out there will also get a chance one day to go home even if just to visit.

Yes it is really just that! It’s incredible how we can have such a strong connection to a land just because it is where we are born!!! It’s like the body itself knows where home is really!

Can you take a train from Kasumbalesa to Lubumbashi?
Hi, No, unfortunately not. The train system is not really useful in Congo. But there are many many buses and taxis that frequent this route and are quite affordable.
I can see you're putting on a Jacket; is it cold in that part of the Congo?
I wouldn't say as it's certainly doesn't get anything near as cold as South Africa gets, never mind place that get snow, like Portland Maine! But yes, it was slightly cold. Kinshasa is hot, all the time!!!
at night the temperature drops to 7°, we are in a very cold period

Is there a Train Coach or Motorway from Kinshasa to Lubumbashi? I like traveling by coaches to see the countryside
Unfortunately not, and it makes many things difficult in the country, so I am hoping it'll get built some time soon!!! I am always concerned about time so I avoid travelling via trains but perhaps for the views I shall consider it when it is available! Thank you so much for your comments and ideas!!!

Hi Cynthia! Thank you for watching and commenting! I make notes of all my expenses so I had to look this up as it's been a while!
I was there for 2 weeks. My expenses were very limited because I didn't spend on food really. I had a lovely family that insisted on taking care of my food and transport costs. It was more of a business trip ultimately so I didn't get to do a lot of the tourist kinda things. I am hoping to get that chance later this year! So most of my expenses were on gifts actually!
