Thanks Phill, about to do this myself, well worth reiterating safety, these things chuck out wires like crazy, can't be too careful ! Also worth noting that although brassed, most wheels are steel and quite hard so beware what you use them on !

Cheers Andy 👍🏻 oh yea I always have the gloves and goggles on with these can't be too careful. Yes I read that the brass coating is to prevent the metal underneath from rusting.

You can buy pure brass wheels as well. Brass is softer than most of the plating used on fasteners, so it's great for cleaning up bolts (ex: removing rust or old hardened threadlock compound between the threads) without damaging or removing the rust-protective coating! @@PhillWyattProjects

Hey I got one for my angle grinde... but it don't have anything that goes over the actual jut to secure it.. and even if there was there is no room.... I'm stressed and idk what to do

I got a 6" for my grinder and when I tried it, I couldn't get it to work. It turns out that, as you say, when they are new, wires stick out to the sides. I put a spacer in to move it away from the shield as the bolts for the toolrest was jamming them on start-up. I will remove it as soon as those side wires get worn down or knocked out. It wasn't a cheap wheel either, an Abracs, £16

Yes with these sometimes you need to add the odd spacer to get them just right and wait for them to wear in as the wires wear down a bit.

The Brass wire is quite soft so it didn't blunt them and they are only for rough work anyway.

Sigh. 12.7mm bore, huh? Why don't they just mark it 1/2"? That's what it is.
