    Blind tastings are hard - but very rewarding to do! Always a good reminder how much we rely on the power of suggestion.

    • @Gwhisky
      @Gwhisky  Před 22 dny +7

      My personal opinion is that it has less to do with suggestion and more to do with jumping between drams. Even when I drink at a regular pace, the first sip or two after the previous dram doesn't accurately reflect the whisky, as I'm still recalibrating from the last dram. 🥃

    Me and my friends have done this many many times,and we have guessed wrong many many times,but its so much to learn from blindtests.Some are much better blind suddenly,and favourites loose to unexpected bottles.So much fun

    Love this. Was going to comment about blind tastings actually. Be great if you could group your Whiskies together on shelves for your girlfriend to pick from. She'd choose any random 5 from a given shelf (collcection/theme) so you don't even know what 5 Whiskies they'll be. Then you have to rank them, score them, and guess which Whiskies you're drinking. That'd be super fun to watch. The way you do it in this video, knowing what 5 you're drinking, already gives you a frame of reference of what your preferences might be. Great video though. Thoroughly entertaining 😅😂

  • @GOTAisMe
    @GOTAisMe Před 22 dny +1

    Geoff! Love this concept. Not a review. Not a list. An other video! Very nice and fun. Honestly I always keep a bottle of Lasanta and the 10 year on my shelf. They were some of the first Scotch whiskies I ever had and I still enjoy them to this day. Plus unlike almost everything else they are priced great here in the New York area. I'd love to see some more of these kind of videos. Maybe a Campbeltown blind? They don't all have to be a blind from the same distillery. How about a blind of new distilleries like the Lagg, Ardnamurchan and Isle of Raasay? Sherry bombs? Sherry peated? Cask strength? This was really fun and shouldn't be a 1 and done video. Great job!

    Brave take on the core range! 🙂Since I only "know" the old range and haven't tried the 18yo yet, I'm a little hesitant to put these in order. I'd expect the Nectar to be my favorite, then the 14yo QR, than 18yo, than Lasanta, than 10yo

    First to last, 18y, 14y, 16y, 12y, 10y.
    The Signet is quite available here so maybe it is corerange but anyway it beats the 18y not by far but a little better😋
    Great video👍🏻

  • @nicktunney2733
    @nicktunney2733 Před 22 dny

    Another excellent episode 👌 I haven't tried the 18 yet, but it's on my shopping list. The nas triple cask is on a par with the 10yr old, a little more woody and less sweet, definitely worth a visit.

  • @bluesmanen1
    @bluesmanen1 Před 22 dny

    Tough job😉
    Well, I haven't tasted the new Lasanta yet, and the new 16 isn't yet available in Sweden, looking forward to it though.
    But the other three I got in quite fresh memory, 1. Quinta Ruban 14yo 2. 18yo 3. 10yo.
    I'm quite fond of Glenmorangie, general, I think I've tried 15-20 different ones over the years, and I've only been disappointed once...It was a limited edition called "Spigo", it was finished in rye casks, it was to me quite bad. The best, so far, is The Signet....but it's ridiculous expensive here, a quite unique dram, but not nearly worth the price tag, sorry to say🍷cheers

    @alexbone98 Před 22 dny +3

    Hey Geoff, I dont know if your market carries it but in North America there is a 15 year old Glenmorangie The Cadboll Estate, it's a bourbon cask finish. Very very sweet...almost sweeter than the Nectar, have you tried it?
    For the sake of the ratings I'll omit the Infinita as I haven't tried it and sub in the Cadboll.
    1. Lasanta
    2. Quinta
    3. Nectar
    4. Cadboll
    5. 10 Year
    Great video!

    Have always found Glenmorangie a bit floral for my own taste, but have a lot of friends who value the line. To defend your blind tasting creds, I wouldn't be able to go from taste to taste without some water or something to neutralize the palate.

    Hi Geoff, really nicely done. Putting yourself at stake with a blind tasting.
    I most admit that I had the Quinta Ruban back in 2017 and after that no more Glenmorangie bought.
    maybe I am wrong there.......

    Nectar is super nice, as most of them. Just got a 15 yo cadboll that is fantastic, and chasing the tale of the forest with a hint of smoke. Tokyo overprized and winter not my cup of tea.

    Have had a couple of 18s as well as a couple of Nectars d’Or sitting in my stash for over 8 years now. Never felt like opening one. I guess that pretty much sums up my overall feeling towards Glenmorangie… although I consider those the best two of the (then-) core range. Thanks for the entertaining blind tasting, Geoff! Can we see your girlfriend too next time?

  • @umami0247

    Haven't tried any of these. In my area I believe we only get the 10 and 12 year. I may pick up a bottle of the 12 just to check it out. I do enjoy scotch I currently have a mcAllen 12 Sherry cask Laphroaig 16 and a Bunnahabhin Stiureadair all are very good pour for me. I want a Kilcohman just to get a peated bottle that isn't a heavy peat. I'm more of a bourbon and rye drinker but I do like the flavor of these scotches. Fruity and sherry are very obvious in the flavors. Enjoy. 🥃🥃🥃

    I’ve read on the scotch reddit that the lasanta will also get an update from 12 years to 15 years so we will have more „mature” glenmo core range: 12,14,15,16 and 18

  • @jasoncoates1835
    @jasoncoates1835 Před 22 dny

    I always liked the Nectar best, then the 10, Lasanta and finally the Quinta Ruban. Never tried the 18 (don't like Glenmo enough to spend that much on it) or Signet (I've learned from American single malts that roasted barley in whisky really isn't my thing.)
    I am curious about the new 12, if it's the old 10 but kicked up a notch it might be a solid guard whisky.

  • @DeesoSaeed
    @DeesoSaeed Před 22 dny

    That was pretty fun! Casually today I've been visiting the Glenmorangie distillery. Pretty impressive place by its size alone. Although I didn't take the tour I could see the large still house from the outside because their doors were open and birds were flying in and out of it!. Also even when the brand doesn't play the card of a maritime influence like others their warehouses are very close to the sea. I had the chance to taste the Signet expression. Very yummy, decadent stuff, pricey though. There's also a new Signet Reserve, a bit too pricey for me. 😅

  • @EuropaWill
    @EuropaWill Před 22 dny

    I've tried X, 10, Older Lasanta and older Quinta Rubin. My least favorite is Quinta. My favorite is between 10 and Lasanta but it depends on my mood. X is sweetest, young but good in a highball.

  • @gl-yph
    @gl-yph Před 22 dny +1

    I would rank them 10 Original, 12 Lasanta, 16 Nectar d'Or, 14 Quinta Ruban, 18 The Infinita. Now keep in mind that I've only tasted the older bottles. But to be honest, I haven't had a Glenmorangie yet that wasn't to my liking. Even down to the original 10, you can really enjoy that dram.

  • @jimdavids6708
    @jimdavids6708 Před 22 dny
