I believe Brennan brought up that idea in an Adventuring Party of like, other schools running on different systems. I think Pathfinder was specifically mentioned for lone adventurers because that’s the kind of thing they need to keep up compared to a party.

Yeah I didn't think about it until I read this comment. It's really nice seeing minor races getting the spotlight. And I am 100% invested in the rat grinders npc to see what their abilities are

I don't think it's a magic item, cause Riz's necktie would've identified that. I think the Butt Crushers are all someone's kind of super soldier experiments (my money's on either robo principal douchebag or Aquefort).
@@deathbykonami5487Brennan confirmed on Adventuring Party that she's got a feat to give her expertise in Athletics (so, Skill Expert) and is being magically enhanced beyond Enhance Ability. She has a belt of giant strength - which kind is subject to theory.
@@GoldnDusty The belt or a similar item makes sense, in fact it is a REQUIREMENT because Enhance Ability just gives you advantage on the roll, it doesn't increase the modifier, so she would have to have a +15 MINIMUM, and given that Brennan didn't flat out say natural 20 (Which this group tends to do), I think it is higher.
Consider that they don't have to spend their money on anything adventuring related. No gear, since they aren't traversing any dungeons or weird terrain. No supplies or rations since they can just go home after their grinding. So any gold dropped by monsters or gold gained by selling monster parts can exclusively go towards buying equipment.
@@StealthMarmot_ well, a 20 is a +5, say you stacked guidance, ceremony, and a bardic for +2d4+1d10, imagining level 14 or so, that's a +5 proficiency bonus, then expertise in athletics, that's 1d20+2d4+1d10+10, a max roll of 48, average roll of 29

I do wonder if the Rat Grinder's source of magic items will be plot relevant. On the one hand, it's absurd that they would find a belt of Fire/Cloud/Storm Giant's Strength out in the starter area, so it could be hinting that there's something nefarious going on. On the other hand, it could just be a commentary of high-level character gen where the DM is permissive with starting magical items.

honestly i could be something as easy as someone being loaded like Fabian and getting them magic items for school so they can skip the actual big quests

Brennan mentioned that he looked at Final Fantasy games and the first enemies you usually fight, some spiders, some tree monsters and rats. So in perspective, those guys spent 2 years doing nothing else than running up and down in that forest, doing random encounters.

Looking at how lizards/reptiles move, the speech pattern that Brennan made for the character is absolutely perfect.
If you were to imagine a lizzyrep speaking, that short burst of quick speech would be it.
To be entirely fair, Kobolds are dragons. So they're a bit more than your average lizard/reptile. But... At the same time, they're like, super lesser-dragons so it still fits.

iirc if the ratgrinders truly made it to 20th level for the purposes of brennan's bit, there's an 18th level barbarian feature where if you roll under your strength score you can just take your strength score instead of the roll

so far my thoughts are: like they said, the Rat Grinders are XP farmers and Principal Grix is a walking(or, i guess, rolling), talking metaphor for Rules As Written

If she's high enough in Barbarian, she can have max 24 strength (+7), but max Proficiency would be 6(7+6=13), and expertise 12(7+12=19). She definitely has expertise, though it remains to be seen if she has 24 strength
Brennan confirmed she was magically enhanced so there could be other stuff at play here.
She just had advantage from enhance ability

I'm gonna guess that there's something with time like someone messing with it because it is unlikely that something bad would happen to all of the bad kids at the same time.
Minimum +15 to their athletics roll, I would say higher because Brennan didn't say natural 20. Considering that they are UNLIKELY to be 17th level or higher, they have at most +5 proficiency bonus (Level 13+), doubled by expertise to +10, so they have a minimum +5 to strength, but I am going to say it's higher.
Most likely: Either a belt OR potion of Giant's strength. I think it's a potion, which is one reason she wanted to leave ASAP since it only lasts an hour.
Mary Ann being a power-grinder as well as a filthy min-maxer is hilarious. It seems like this season is a DM therapy session for Brennan.

So i tried to do the calculations on how she got a 35, that means her bonus is at least +16 and that is actually impossible to acheive with a pure barbarian, unless she somehow got expertise on athelitcs because the proficiency bonus at level 20 is +6 so that's pretty much the limit, and the highest her strengh can go naturally is 24 (at level 20 barbarians increase their strength and con by 4 and the previous limit was 20) and 24 is plus 7 so 6+7= so she must have some kind of item that gives a high bonus because I don't think brennan made her be the same level as arthur aguefort but also she's a rat grinder and they probably don't have legendary items and stuff
Edit: she confirmed has skill expert so it doubles her proficiency bonus, so assuming her strength is 20 she could be any level from 13-16 and have an item that increases athletics by 1

nonplussed is one of those weird words that means the opposite of itself depending on the context (either bewildered or unfazed)

One of those word with dual meaning depending on region, in the context Brennan is using it means unperturbed, not interested. He used it for Jawbone as well in the interaction with bad kids interaction with Kettlecorn Cuttlefish, and he was just kind of observing the interaction passively.

Guess we're just in a transitional phase where it means both things at the same time. Makes things confusing but the English langauge is, and SHOULD BE, descriptive not prescriptive and mildly annoying transitions like these are a small price to pay for that. Again, it is a silly thing for me to be annoyed about.
