The plan was to sail 30 miles from Hayling Island to Hurst Castle to meet Tom Court and camp in my boat for the night, my boat had never been that far before but the conditions were perfect and we had an epic trip!
Only just came across this guys and loved watching, living the dream. great video, so pleased you took the drone. I would love to be able to do this in my boat
Love it! I've been posting videos camping with my Sunfish Sailboat. I'm always excited to see others using what they have to get out there. Pretty sweet that it was your grandfather's boat as well.
Your boat is a Drascombe Long Boat, designed in Britain for coastal sailing, not protected harbors. One sailed from Greece to Britain in the 1960s another across the Pacific in the 1980s.
I i worked for honnor marine in 1969. 70 . And watched a couple of carpenters cut a Luger in half, and lengthen it to make the plug for the long boat, fascinating work, something i got to do quite a bit of 40 years later at Cornish crabbers.
We stopped in Portsmouth 2 times in 2019, sailed on the uscg Eagle. Weather is way better than what we had. Cheers from Florida. I camp on my sea pearl 21
Nice area and lovely conditions. I'm not a fan of the noise and smell of motors, so I'd have been more tempted to take twice as long without using one. Maybe using an anchor when the tide was in the wrong direction and tide + sail for the other half of the time. 🙂
In the late 60’s I remember David Pyle returning to Langston Sailing Club to show film footage of his voyage to Australia in his drascombe lugger HERMES. The boat proved to be versatile, coping with shallow waters and the deepest of seas.
Loved that one. I used to live in Brighton and miss those (few to be honest) gorgeous weather days in South England, in the midst of all that natural, historical and cultural beauty. Gorgeous boat too! Was that tent custom made for it?
Hi, great video! Is your drascomb built in ply or GRP? I'm finishing up a Lilou2 stitch and glue plywood sailboat 18' designed by Francois vivieor.....very similar to the drascomb lugger
That's a Drascomb Longboat. There are shorter versions called the Lugger and the Dabber. They aren't racing boats but they can be single-handed. I used to use mine when I was 13, single-handed. Currently made by Drascomb and Honnor Marine.
So, there we go folks. In the midst of the Dominic Cummings furore, we asked our kitesurfing guru for a simple statement of clarification about the day, to see if it fitted with the guidance that the British public (you and me) have been diligently following, but none was forthcoming. See Jamie's comments also, which I whole heartedly support. This isn't North shore Oahu, we have 37048 death at time of writing.
@@chriscolumbus5061 Admittedly some parts of the government advice are pretty confusing and the media hasn't helped. But the advice about not spending a night away from home is black and white, no media brain washing involved.
Don't you just luv millennials and their lack of knowledge? Never mind 'perfectly still' days when there's no wind for sailing! Are you aware a plywood original Drascombe sailed from England to Australia? look it up, David Pyle, the book 'Australia the Hard Way', the boat 'Hermes'. Three guys in one tent? How sad is that? Should have been one guy and a bikini clad girl.....
"Hey, what up"??? Other than that, what a lovely video, and how lucky to have a Lugger passed on to you! And lovely drone work - thankfully well past the nuddy beach!

What a great boat. Your Grandfather had good taste in boats.

I was more interested in the boat than the camping.

My brother John and myself built Hermes for David Pyle.
Lots of discomfort from salt sores.
Nice day sailer. I love your boat tent.

Thanks for the sail. Fair winds…
In my opinion a Lelievlet and Lelieschouw are the best open sailboats for this kind of things
One sailed to Australia from the UK I think. Fantastic part of the world. 🇦🇺👍🍺
amazing!
tight squeeze there!
@@AdrianKerr very tight
Cool trip! Where did you get the tent or was it a custom job? Looking for something similar for my lugger. Thanks.
No English ever made it without a cuppa, indeed. :)
Nice :)

Really well edited video! Any thoughts on the differences between the slingshot foils and the duotone one you rode here?
nice
Love the music in this. Who is it?

What kind of that? Looks legit and usable on my Wharram as well
That is a terrific boat. I'm trying to find one just like that. Can you give us any more information about it?

What drone do you have? The footage looks great!
Anyone know?
"it's perfect at going one knot"
It's just gone 3 o'clock looks at wrist no watch lol.
where you get the tent for the boat?
What kind of boat is it? Looks a lot like a Drascombe Lugger
I think so, too. Pretty sure it is.
Drascombe Longboat
Do you always drink and sail!
You 'got unlucky with the tides' ???? You screwed up??
Spock makes breakfast...
Are you blokes sure you're not Aussies?
..nice to see you guys "ruffing it" .....tell you what...thats the quality life ...not this rich hoity toity crap....
Cowes "the main town" Lol nope. Its certainly not the main town. Newport and Ryde want a word.

@ 12:15 - looks like a rugby club annual awards dinner winner's mug. Ha!
@ 13:17 "Got a little bit unlucky with the tide"? What?! The tide time moves back about 40 minutes each day. It's entirely predictable! Ha ha.
