The reason why his had is going through them is because for good team members in TF2 they have collision detection meaning you can walk through them. When you bump into an a spy you actually block their path.
Fun fact- Spies are actually weak. They have the lowest possible base health (a non-overhealed Kunai Spy has 70 hp) and their revolvers and knives both do very little damage if you are terrible at backstabs (they like do 40 damage in face-stabs). It isn't really a surprise that Spy is the hardest class to master. If you are great, you can be a complete OP troll, but a terrible spy who can't shoot close range or backstab will do very little damage.
