- Formula 1 fans have been reacting at Silverstone to a crazy final race in Abu Dhabi which saw Max Verstappen crowned World Champion.
Having lead throughout the race, Lewis Hamilton was overtaken by Verstappen on the final lap, following a yellow flag and a number of controversial incidents.

The fact that so many of us dislike Hamilton has feck all to do with his skin colour.
It's his personality we don't like.
His true personality is the one you hear over the radio to his team. He really is not a 'sporting' and fair person at all. In fact he shows the classic traits of a full blown narcissist.Everything that goes wrong for him, is always somebody else's fault.
Pretending to the world he is a caring person with his TV interviews etc, yet behind the scenes we learn that it's all an act.His attitude truly stinks.
Credit to the commentators here. You can complain about their biases or whatever else, but like the stewards, you can't deny the enormity of their role in the legacy of this moment. Of course no one's listening to a word Crofty's saying on the last lap cuz we were all screaming at the TV, but it's his voice that'll now be forever attached to this instantly iconic moment. The ending to this race will outlive all of us, and it's Crofty and Brundle's words that will continue to take unborn F1 fans through it decades from now.

I totally agree, was thinking the same thing when watching back the english commentary.. they really kept their cool an really commentated the moment and not their emotions, respect.

When you listen to Crofty and Brundle long enough, you start to realize subtle differences in their voice and choice of words when it starts to go wrong for Hamilton. I guess it is fine for the people who don't realize that, but the truth is they are literally doing the very minimal (if not less than minimal) they should be doing considering that English is the global language and their voice is the default around the world. They sometimes make it miserable to watch for supporters of drivers that are not British or even that are not Hamilton. They keep undermining other drivers and teams that challenge Hamilton or Mercedes with every chance they get. Even at this moment you can totally hear the difference of how they would be commentating on Hamilton if he was to win the championship.
Max deserves the title of World Champion.
Most wins, more laps lead than everyone else combined, broke the record of the most podiums in a single season, and all after what happened in Silverstone, Hungary and Baku.
Admittendly it wasn't the most ideal win, but it still had everyone on the edge of their seats.
As a Hamilton, I'm proud for him.

The unexpected things that happened in the 22nd race, happened in other races as well. If this race would've been race number 8, it would have gone down as one of the many crazy races of the season, like other races have. It's because everybody sees and treats this as a 'grand finale' - which it wasn't because there are no finales in F1 - the outcome of this race with all it's impredictable incidents and accidents causes people to respond very emotionally. Understandable, but in the championship it's just another race. It's not that all the previous races were less important or all fair and square.
One of the two obese ladies said it right, that they (Max and Lewis) shouldn't have the same amount of points before this race to begin with. Except, she was wrong about who should have had more points before Abu Dhabi: she rooted for Lewis, but Max is the one who should have had way more points before this last race, considering everything that happened and his consistent performance this whole season.

The title is not lost in the last lap, it is the result of a whole season. In that season it is Mercedes that got most of the presents from the stewards. Max got none. So don't feel sorry for Mercedes.

You said it. When LH goes outside track limits half of the race and MV once ... they ban it. This is the result of the Silverstone and Baku DNF's of MV. Without those DNF MV would have a comfortable lead and would have been WC last race.

Checo was guaranteed 4th in the drivers standings already, so his best play was the team game, which he excelled at magnificently. One of the best defenses for strategy I’ve ever seen, I mean almost never does someone defend so well that they can take nearly a 7 second chunk out of the lap time of the driver behind. Amazing stuff, he played his part to the fullest, Checo is a legend

Fair is fair, Lewis deserved to win the Abu Dhabi GP, but Max deserved to win Baku and probably Silverstone or at least to finish 2nd there and Hungary as well. In that respect Max really deserved the WDC this year and perhaps Red Bull also deserved the WCC considering how many points those accidents had cost them.

Max already should have been champion, Lewis taking Max out in Silverstone turned everything less sportive. They started the war themselfs. Azerbeidzjan Max had a blown tyre in the lead. In Hungary bottas went bowling. This wasn't even close. Max was the rightful champ this year. R

@@frenchchicken2799 Max was over aggressive in Silverstone, if he didn't close the door and leave some room at apex, they won't touch and Max is likely to keep the lead. It's far less certain Lewis could take the lead there. Even we assume Lewis still won, Max could easily bring home 2nd for 18 pts. With that, Max can just sit at 2nd today and get WDC easily.

@@oliverm.2118 That’s a different question. But Merc went as per the rule book and estimated if all cars are allowed to unlap themselves and the safety car goes in on the next lap, Lewis wins. If all the lapped cars are not allowed to unlap themselves and the safety car goes in then Max has to go through them and would have not been able to catch Lewis before Chequered flag. So based on the rule book they took the right decision not to pit Lewis and risk running out of laps behind Max.
Why not give a penalty after Hamilton crashes Verstappen into the wall and win 26 points, while giving a big penalty when they both crash out due to Max? If Silverstone didn’t happen, Max would have already be world champion before yesterday’s race started. It blows my mind that Merc fans are really complaining after 7 years of being the FIA’s favorite child.

Well, super Max had 5 cars to pass. Having the race director influence the last lap to suit a more exciting ending is the travesty of this race.

the luck that mercedes has had this year and hamilton is unbelievable. max was very unlucky he should have been world champion much earlier. And Max was just a lot better than Hamilton this year. Hamilton's car is simply faster, even with less material, he beats Hamilton. If next season the car is equivalent to Hamilton's we will have a boring season with Max as world champion. Max is better than Hamilton, that's for sure. Justice at last and a super deserved World Champion!

This was definitely a controversial season. The FIA were inconsistent, definitely they did it to make it exciting to the very end. What were the odds, equal points and final lap of the final race. Deserved victory but one the will stand controversial in history.
