Personally, I'm in favor of ALWAYS splitting the bill. Better yet, make it separate bills from the beginning. Doesn't matter who asked whom or what the occasion is. The only thing that would matter is if one person is practically begging to pay the bill or if one person makes significantly more and dragged the other person to a place outside of their budget...

Big cities with a large youth population and a lean toward liberal ideals are more likely to "go Dutch" or just have a woman pay for both people without a second thought...

For me, every date I’ve been on so far, my mom’s always taught me to bring my own money bc I should never go somewhere & not be prepared. I never expect the man to pay for my meal just bc he asked me out but sometimes depending on the person they will insist that they will pay for my meal and I always make sure to tell them thank you bc I did have my own money. 😌

That's insane. The date doesn't work out and you're most likely never going to see her again, but you still have to pay for her meal? Nah that's fucking ridiculous. If she says something like; "You seem like a nice guy, but I don't see this working out. I hope we can still be friends though." Ok, but you don't pay for your friends meal. Therefore, she should pay her share of the bill. You don't invite your friend to have lunch and then have to pay for their meal because you invited them.

This type of situation I absolutely believe, is going to come into play as an evolutionary footnote. I'm a millennial, but my values come from my grandparents examples, they were who I chose to idolize and springboard off of. Also by nature I'm just really old school. If a man invites me on a date, I would expect him to pay for it. It's an invitation, you invited me especially if it wasn't clarified in the beginning for example saying, "would you like to go out? Maybe go dutch?"
Being bisexual, if I invite a girl out which I have, I have paid for us even if she has offered to pay for herself. I do this because I personally enjoy it, I love making a woman feel good even if I feel like it won't go beyond friendship at that point I'm okay with that. Now, there have been dates that I have been on where I felt it was going south with a man. So to let that man know, that there will be "no call back", "you didn't make the audition." I have literally told the waiter very politely and ever so slickly the minute they arrived at the table, that I will be paying for my drinks and my meal separately.
In truth, allowing a man to pay for everything is going to give him hope and a signal to initiate follow-up. If that is not going to be the situation. (And every woman knows immediately whether that will be the case after the first date and or during it). Then ladies keep your dignity and yourself respect in tact. Don't give him a reason to follow-up with you when you know you're not interested. Also you will gain more self-respect taking this route than not. This maneuver makes for a clean break. If you end up on a date trapped with somebody who's just an unbelievable D-bag, get the waiters attention at any point in the date, ask for your bill only, and get the f*** out of there. That's it. Whether it's some D-bag or a nice guy that it's just not going to work out with, either way by doing it cleanly, you gave this dude no reason to ever call you again. And that's it.
