@@raviking6572 agreed the place is a shithole run by a really bad council.

The video is beautiful. the "titanic" pub used to be my local at one time (under a diferent name then) I will say that some of the transcript is incorrect though. the Castle part of southampton dosen't exsist any more. Where the "castle keep" once stood is now a carpark. the walls that you show were built in henry VIIIs times to counter french sea raids on the town (Southampton didn't become a city until after WWII) though there are norman buildings in that area. The Bargate is a town gate. One last thing, what you refered to as the high street is called Below Bar (below Bargate) the main high street is actually up the road on what we call Above Bar.

The RMS Titanic set sail from Southampton, England on her very first voyage to New York on April 10, 1912. After leaving Southampton, she stopped at Cherboug, France, and then made another stop in Queenstown, Ireland before starting her first transatlantic voyage. She hit the iceberg and sank on April 12, 1912.

Southampton was responsible for sending the Titanic and all those people out to sea without a sufficient amount of rescue boats. That is its claim to fame.

i grew up here as a poor kid in the 60''s and 70's. i know almost every corner... all the pubs. broke into many places.. stole alot of shit.... lived down the street from the university. great place to break into but nothing worth taking home to. on the other hand was the milk and cheese factory somewhere in between. we raided that place on a regular basis until some cunt (maybe it was me) forgot to lock the back of a truck,..after that it wasn't safe anymore. so we took to cigarette machines and telephone boxes. that became unsafe too because all around southampton cunts like me guarded their sources, and with violence need it be. only the brave would wander into anothers revier.. so what next?... mopeds..... to make a long story short, the police came looking for me. and except for a couple of break ins here and there (woolworths etc) my criminal life came to an end and i joined the army...now i'm over 60.and somehow i'm still a criminal... but aren't we all? hope you enjoyed the short story of my life in southampton z.

One day, this American woman is going to come to Southampton for a visit with Craig David, and we'll sit on a park bench, hold each others hand, and talk for hours about his years growing up there. Then, when the day is done, and the night falls upon us; we'll share a kiss beneath the stars, and know...love. 😌
    A woman can dream, can't she? 😊

southampton home of the spitfire, and the ford transit van (was) both built in the same place, loads of history in and around the city including the pilgrim fathers set off from southampton ,not plymouth as often believed underrated because of lack of a good council and flooded by students that take up much needed housing, city is gridlocked due to poor infrastructure and roads, many run down estates on the out skirts of the city due to lack of investment were is the euro money,, im born and dragged up in southampton so i know the real southampton

Southampton has always been a very small city thats why it isn't famous. Everyones heard of London, Bristol, Manchester, Birmingham, Cardiff, Edinburgh but not this place. Because of its small size, its not seen as an area or a place of interest. Southampton has a lot of history but its always going to be an ignored and forgotten place.

It is because they are responsible for sending Titanic and all those people out to sea without a sufficient amount of rescue boats. Southampton was responsible for that and nobody wants to put their hand up to claim responsibility. Cowards and crooks makeup Southampton.

@@raviking6572 maybe some truth in your comments re lifeboats but what about the ship builders & white line too.
also remember hundreds of southampton folk were crew members who went down with the ship.

It did have the superb curved south shore along the esplanade and down past central station and millbrook. Gone to create the industrial area and now gone pirelli and power station. The Lido was a nod to the beach possibly. Tarmac and containers today. Soulless city now due to council ineptitude.
