The first feature length documentary I produced on life at camp. 60 mins total length
Between 1994 and 2007, I spent my summers at Vernon shooting and creating a documentary that each year showed what camp life was like. The videos evolved from 60 minutes in 1994 to just over 2 hrs a few years later. I interviewed hundreds of cadets and staff, asking them what it was all about. Then, I'd spend autumn editing the 10-20 hours of raw footage down to a cohesive story. several days were devoted to writing the script and narration was added. Finally with the kind assistance of my friends, Wayne Emde with a selection of his photos and Ed Liukaitis with his brilliant and effective graphics design, a video cover would be created, each year those covers became a work of art. Many more days were spent duplicating the master copy to VHS, later high-speed DVD duplication made the process a little easier. At last I would ship this videos of across Canada to waiting cadets. I sometimes wonder what it was like to pen the package in the mail and watch it for the first time.
It was certainly worth it.

Still active with a highland cadet corps after all these years. It was so different back then. Today it is all about leadership. Back then it was like being in the Klingon Empire.
I literally came back from Vernon CTC a few days ago and I was on Delta lines which is isolated from the rest of the other companies such as Alpha, Bravo and Charlie

I'm in this documentary for like 2 seconds. I miss these days, I remember I would be laying in my bunk the first night thinking wtf did I do signing up for another 6 weeks of this. Now I get drunk and watch these vids wishing I could go back. I recognize like 99% of the people in this documentary...

around the time my grandpa retired from there :) he trained a lot of our soldiers over the years!!! here and all over canada and the world :D

Garrison dress, except combat boots instead of garrison boots. At least that's what I was in when I was staff in 2001. And thank god we didn't get those god awful jackets that breathe as well as a zip loc bag!
