- Hola, Today I am turning a BUTTERFLY KNIFE out of Drill Bit, it was very tough to forge rusty drill bit into Butterfly Knife's shape. I used whole bit iron half for blade and other half for handle grips. Watch out the whole video you'll enjoy it.

A balisong, also known as a fan knife, butterfly knife or Batangas knife, is a type of folding pocketknife that originated in the Philippines.
Its distinct features are two handles counter-rotating around the tang such that, when closed, the blade is concealed within grooves in the handles.

What gets me is the fact that even the pivot screws were made and not bought - that’s some talent
We used to do that in school easy task.
@@Dave-xm7nm thats the real thing which should be taught in school
@@rajsharma1996 how many people are forging weapons now. The things that should be taught in school are lessons to help prepare you for the future. For the most part people do not forge anything anymore because technology have propelled use to a point where we do not need to, we have industries that do this and that is where you should learn these skills if needed. This isn’t 1400 anymore or do you thing we all should learn how to make horse shoes too
@@aegir3452 yes but i think he was getting at the fact that we never repair our items anymore, because we no longer know how to and go and buy a new one. I think basic machine work is still relevant and translates into a ton of fields (any of which use fittings or threaded fixtures) but i do agree, no school should on a massive scale teach how to shoe a horse lol
The pivot screws are where the knife breaks in these. Those pivot screws can be readjusted as and when needed. Also those pivot screws are going to take years before something goes wrong and break. Maybe a life time.
As a welder/fabricator of almost 10 years, this is 10/10. Insane machine work and to top that, insane craftsmanship. Wow, I truly wonder how long this build took.
It is crazy right
Yep
As a balisong/butterfly knife flipper, I can say that a double edged blade is unimaginably counter productive.
@HeroinSniffa wise words from a heroin sniffer.
@@JuddMcgeewith most tricks or even opening a blade you easily hit one side of the knife with your hand, so having a double edged blade means instead of a flat surface there's now a blade cutting you.
the spray painting to mark your cuts is genius and you have forever changed how i will do things
I guess I'm the only one shocked at the efficiency test at the end. So used to people slicing paper or food this man stabbed a water bottle all the way through and sliced it straight up so clean I was really not expecting that. Hell of a blade and considering how much effort went into forging it I imagine it would take an awful lot of usage before dulling at all
cutting a water bottle is harder than paper BTW

I'm not gonna lie: for a moment there I did not expect it to be as good as I imagined it would be, but then it turned out to be 1000x better than I could ever imagine. Trust the crafting process and trust the mind behind it, I say!

That is the mindset to have if you're paying a creative mind!

That was a lot of work, but the result is easily one of the most gorgeous blades I've ever seen. Very well done, sir.
is it actually that gorgeous? I'm aware that the process took a lot of work and time, but the end product doesn't look that appealing to me. In fact, it even seems ugly. It's thick and fat.
@@pyg9466 The shape of it does look impractical, I'll grant that much. But given what it started out as, you've gotta admit that this is very clean work on the smith's part.

Sir, you are an extremely skilled craftsman. I fully respect the patients and consideration that goes into such a high level of quality. My father was an extremely skilled carpenter and glass cutter. I loved working with him as a child growing up. I have my own level of skills in other areas like welding, steam fitting and such. I really hope one day I can take the time to just breathe and be like you. Thanks for sharing your valuable time with everyone. Your work is pristine and unparalleled. God bless you and your family. 14:27 the sound, the way it cuts the bottle like it is butter, the way the water gushes out, everything about this satisfies my soul
Something so beautiful and dangerous at the same time is something I didn’t expect to work so well together
Now everyone can figure out why swords and stuff were so expensive in the past. This vid already has lots of hand work but still there are machines to support, can you imagine doing EVERYTHING by hand? Those were rough but respectable days.
I know this is a late reply but swords weren’t that expensive in medieval times for a basic sword it would of been around 6 pence of course this varied a little bit but a thatcher which was a relatively low paying job would pay 3 pence a day so if you were a thatcher you could buy a sword in 2-3 days. But also then there’s some really nice sword that looked nice and were extremely well made and they were most likely reserved for royalty or higher class members of society.
@@dillonwatkins4874 my guess, as someone who doesn’t actually touch swords whatsoever and doesn’t blacksmith, as to why swords weren’t that expensive is because a functional sword could be made with a long piece of metal and the right tools, without worrying too much about fine details. Something like a butterfly knife, even one that was super basic and not nearly as gorgeous as the one in the video, would have been crazy expensive given the amount of time and expertise needed to craft every tiny piece.
@@kangalow specifically since they did not have the tools we have today, although its still a lot of work he uses machines (perfectly understandable) that make easier the job, while in those times It was harder to get everything right and precise, so yeah i agree with ya

To see drill bits drilling into the "drill bit" (past life) was surreal.
I believe craftsmanship is more about patience than talent. You clearly have both! Congratulations! Very skillful!
It’s about attention to detail
It’s about drive it’s about power
The fact that he's doing all this old school (no use of CNC for cutting) is what blows my mind!
So much work involved in that, excellent craftsmanship
It looks so royal and pristine! I thought it would be black which would look awesome too but that's skill on another level

If you anneal tool steel before forging it's easier to work. To anneal, heat the steel to cherry red then allow it to cool slowly. I usually just heat it in the forge then turn off the gas and walk away until cool enough to touch. Works like a charm!
Awesome build. Next time, you should only do one edge, as it is what keeps you from being cut, when you "flick" it around. I love butterfly knives, but will only use one sided blade ones. This thing is BEAUTIFUL though, no doubt.
