    It's funny how as you age you appreciate and are inspired by near perfection. I guess it's from the realization of how truly imperfect so many things are. What an absolutely awesome team of horses. You know those Clydesdales had to wondering, what the hell is that? When that little Shetland fold showed up, Great Shot.

    I knew one of the truck drivers and he told me just ONE of those neck collars costs $40,000 - all leather, brass and sewn together with silk thread!! I didn't ask how much it cost for all the other tac. That wagon weighs about 4 tons. They travel with 10 horses but have 8 on the team. One horseshoe weighs about 4 pounds. I was lucky enough to actually get up close and personal with them and they truly are 'gentle' giants. They are magnificent. I'll never forget it!
    They are very pampered and have to maintain a certain amount of weight to pull those wagons. If they get too fat or too thin, they can't be part of the team. They have 3 separate teams that travel the country - one for each section of the country.
    If you haven't been able to see them in person, the next time they are scheduled to be near you - GO!! You won't be disappointed.

      "mutilate" lol! I don't think too many people consider a hair cut "mutilation" lol Get a grip.

    • @briarlee
      @briarlee Před 7 lety

      lol Fred...their tails are docked, that means that, the healthy bone and tissue was cut off...the tail was AMPUTATED. The average adult horse has about 18 vertebra in their tail...they hack off 15 of those along with all of the muscles and nerves...so not just hair. Some call it butchering...others mutilation. Any of those terms apply to purposefully removing healthy tissue that the horse actually needs and uses.
      It is an extremely cruel procedure that is done for cosmetic reasons. Take a look at what the AAEP has to say about it.
      The AVMA endorses the American Association of Equine Practitioners’ (AAEP) policy on "Tail Alteration in Horses," which reads as follows:
      “The American Association of Equine Practitioners condemns to the alteration of the tail of the horse for cosmetic or competitive purposes. This includes, but is not limited to, docking, nicking (i.e., cutting) and blocking. When performed for cosmetic purposes, these procedures do not contribute to the health or welfare of the horse and are primarily used for gain in the show ring (nicking/cutting, blocking and docking) or because of historical custom (docking). If a horse’s tail becomes injured or diseased and requires medical or surgical intervention, such care should be provided by a licensed veterinarian.
      The AAEP urges all breed associations and disciplines to establish and enforce guidelines to eliminate these practices and to educate their membership on the horse health risks they may create. Members of AAEP should educate their clients about the potential health risks, welfare concerns, and legal and/or regulatory ramifications regarding these procedures based on the relevant jurisdiction and/or association rules.”

    • @briarlee
      @briarlee Před 7 lety +1

      No Sugarfoot, this is not true. You can read the research done by Sandra Tozzini, where she states the following: The rationale given for this was to prevent possible difficulties in controlling a horse whose tail had tangled in the harness or reins (Tozzini, 2003; Lefebvre et al, 2007). This justification is still used today. However, not all draught horses are docked and the inconsistent application of the practice implies that these horses can be managed adequately without the need to remove the tail. Simple and practical alternatives, such as plaiting or bandaging the tail, are available if necessary.
      These are the only horses who are docked...these draft horses, and they do it for cosmetic reasons. There are many breeds of horses that work in harness, like Standardbreds, Gypsy Vanners, Shetlands, Fell, Cleveland Bays, Friesians and many more...NONE of them have their tails docked. Why do you think that is...or, why 14 US states and 11 countries ban it.
      Take a look at the research completed in Belgium about tail docking: The rationale given for this was to prevent possible difficulties in controlling a horse whose tail had tangled in the harness or reins (Tozzini, 2003; Lefebvre et al, 2007). This justification is still used today. However, not all draught horses are docked and the inconsistent application of the practice implies that these horses can be managed adequately without the need to remove the tail. Simple and practical alternatives, such as plaiting or bandaging the tail, are available if necessary.
      Shame on the sadistic people who hacked up their horses this way. Shame on them.

      I don't know why they can't just shave them short tbh. :/ I don't like docking either. :/

    An extremely cruel act to cut off a horse's tail to make it look more stylish and showy. Then to do it to seven more just so that they all match. I won't be buying any budweiser from now on.

      They are trimmed shorter than an ordinary horse in the paddock but they aren’t cut off. This allows a shorter tail to be plaited and tucked up. It’s not about looks so much as safety. A loose tail can get tangled in all the driving equipment. It also prevents a horse from treading on the tail of the horse in front him.

    Budweiser the worst beer of the World ...! = Pisse de cheval.

    The poor horses hate it when they’re tacked up, they’re all throwing their heads because of how uncomfortable their mouths and docks are. When will these horses be allowed to retire? Nobody wants to drink Budweiser after seeing these poor horses.
