A perfect weekend gateway near Mumbai : Takmak Fort
This trek is perfect escape from the chaos of Mumbai. Takmak fort offers splendid views of surrounding Sahyadri Range peaks, vandri lake and Arabian sea.
This place is still less crowded and away from rush of city trekkers this it is one of the best trekking places in Maharashtra.
Takmak fort is known for its confusing route. Having a gpx file or hiring a guide from Sakawar is a good option.
There is no source of water on Takmak fort so carry enough water for yourself.
Nearest restaurant is in Shirsad.
There are no permissions required to trek Takmak, you can attempt it on your own at your own risk.

How to reach Takmak fort from Mumbai by public transport
1) Take a western suburban line Mumbai local to Virar: ~ Rs. 30 for return ticket
2) Virar to either Virar Fata or Shirsad Fata ST bus: ~ Rs. 60 for return
3) Virar Fata or Shirsad Fata to Sakawar (base village of Takmak fort) : ~ Rs. 60 for return
Total cost: ~ Rs. 150*
All rates mentioned are as per September 2021.
How to reach Takmak fort from Mumbai by Car or Bike :
1) Take the Western Express highway from Mumbai
2) Drive till Virar toll on NH-48
3) After crossing Virar toll, don't take the next bridge. Go from down and take a right for Sakawar Village.
