The RWBY novel, After the Fall, has released (at least in Canada until June 25th), and from it readers are able to learn about the semblances for each member of Team CFVY! It makes sense now why Fox was comforting Velvet after her team lost in the tournament, but didn't say anything.
So Fox’s Telepathy Semblance not only helps him be aware of his surroundings despite his blindness, he even uses it to communicate.

@@midnightcarnivalmember there is a theory Yatsuhashi and the White Fang Lieutenant are the same person. Mainly because its similar size, skin tone, combat styles, and hair style, plus Yatsu covers his left shoulder where the White Fang Lieutenant has a tattoo. If we add in the memory wipe semblance, it is possible that if anyone were to discover his identity, he could simply wipe away their memory of it. This doesn't really account for the breach, where the WFL was on the train and Yatsu showed up with his team to the breach, but WFL wasn't at the Fall of Beacon while Yastu was
@@ExpertoftheBlade Yes, but considering how long Weiss's fight against Banesaw took and the Breach, he would have to individually mindwipe CFV and Port, and that would lead to questions Yatsuhashi would have to answer do to how much time they would forget.
Fox is blind!? And his Sensory technique makes sense for how Adam can fight like that. He is a high level fighter after all.
P.s. I think Fox winks ironically. As he sort of inside joke, because I honestly didn't know he was blind lol
People have been theorizing he's blind since day 1, because of his eyes. Naruto is pretty much the only time when eyes like that *don't* mean you're blind.
@@sandraadams5252 actually yeah that does make sense. What if his semblance gave him the sensory ability the moment he lost his sight. Since we know Semblences are normally unlocked under intense stress as a survival instinct. Examples: Nora getting hit by lightning, Ren having to hide from Grimm, Jaune having to heal Weiss, ect.

I'd be down they want her to be able to be much more important and I'm almost certain that at least someone in team RWBY is gonna get maiden powers Idk if they'd write it in that all 4 do or just 1 or if they'll get rid of the maiden powers by the end etc.

If they do, i hope they briefly explain what happened in the book and what their semblances and backstories are.
I have $10 on them being reintroduced when the main characters head to Vacuo or in the final big battle against Salem.

The fact that she can no longer use penny's weapon made that scene even more powerful. But it would have helped if they TOLD us this before in the show before we saw it.
I think they kinda hinted at it a few times, usually through Coco warning her to hold back in using it, plus the scene just before she rushed in when Coco told her to make the weapons count
@@madsi6563 I think you're correct but looking at it the wrong way (only guessing since they don't tell us anything).
But I assume it's to make it count because of how costly money wise, the attacks are. And I'm unsure, but I don't think she has to use ever single photo she took in one go. Which is why I'm saying the fact that shew blew penny's could have been more powerful since she can always recapture the others.
it's pretty strongly implied with two of Coco's lines and Velvet's camera work.
In Volume 2, she takes an awkwardly angled photo of Sun and shows it to Ruby, who believes that Velvet is just bad at photography. But we can understand that Velvet was actually photographing Sun's gunchucks, not Sun himself. We then see her put her camera back into her box.
Later on in Volume 2, Coco says 'Don't waste them here' implying that Velvet's weapon uses up a finite resource of some sort.
Finally, in Volume 3 when Velvet uses her weapon, Coco says 'just make em count' once again reaffirming the finite resource.
Imo Velvet's weapon and semblance are one of the best examples of show-don't-tell in the series, which it struggles with

@@renmojito6796 When I say resource I am talking about the photos. Because Coco says 'them' (note the plural) that implies several different concrete things (i.e. photos), the Hard Light Dust is just an energy source.
If someone told me to cook a couple of of their collection of expensive pork chops and said 'just... make them count' they're obviously talking about the steaks, not the butter I'm going to use to fry them.
I LOVE team CFVY!!! Velvet was my favorite character and I miss her.

yatsuhashi's semblance seems so cool, and so useful, if your struggling in a fight briefly make your opponent forget they are fighting for a second to make an opening.
Interestingly both Fox & Yatsuhashi could have been hard counters to Cinders plan for the fall of beacon.
Even if they could, Cinder probably use Emerald and Mercury to silence them or she just doesn’t care about those two since she wants to focus on the whole plan instead.

Pretty sure Cinder didn’t know their semblances because hey had to learn the students’ semblances early in V2 but team CFVY only arrived during the last half

Because his brain hasn't "learned" to see at all.
When we are young babies, as we look around the world while making bubbles our brain is training itself in the vision department.
Because fox is blind since birth, returning his vision now will give him headaches plus he won't recognize his team by sight.
He will have to train his brain to "recognize" what it sees.
@@arnowisp6244 That's assuming the goggles even work. I mean you can theorize they link to the optical nerve and that Fox would be blind from the nerve up, not the eyes, and that would solve it. 'Cos your explanation just means he'd take time to learn it, making it still viable.
Nikolas Holmes that, and it’s made clear that the goggles clearly aren’t for use when in combat and such. It’s shown time and time again that Maria’s goggles can very easily be disrupted or broken with some electricity or blunt force damage, so...
Honestly it’d probably hurt more than help Fox. Get used to sight only to have it stripped away again in battle and have to suddenly change your entire fighting style would be most disorienting.

i thought it was weird since anesidora is just ONE weapon, but she was talking about the weapons IN the photos.
I knew that's what it meant from the start, I thought it was obvious since she used all the weapons she took photos of and the camera was also her bag thing?
And the fact my best friend pointed out her using Penny's weapon there was the last time we might ever see Penny made me sad

Velvet's semblance was probably the most obvious without directly acknowledging it.
She may have the weapons, but not the training that the original wielders had with said weapons. So her semblance has to make up for that.
Agreed, though I think it should be the inverse. Velvet developed her weapon to go with her semblance.

I actually thought Velvet's semblance was fairly well covered in the show. Unless you weren't paying attention to the smaller dialogue during their season 2 fight, Coco tells her to save it for later, meaning there is a use limit for whatever is stored. And in the clash since she used each one, one by one, we can surmise that it's a one-time use until she's able to snap a pic of it again.
It's a great example of "show, don't tell" which keeps shows like this very entertaining without needless and detractful exposition dumps. If you can't extrapolate that kind of detailed information, then.. idk what to say, RWBY is full of 'show, don't tell' so it might be easy for some of us to miss a lot of important foreshadowing.
I think Fox was the one who had the least amount of information in the show, seconded by Yatsuhashi, and Coco.
Yatsuhashi's performance in the arena vs Mercury hinted that he could somehow confuse an opponent. Remember that weird pause while Mercury focused on Yatshuhashi? it didn't have much effect since Mercury can only rely on his martial skill as an assassin which had been ingrained into muscle memory. Very nice to see that team CFVY has now been much more defined.

It would be nice, but remember that there's a difference. I'm pretty sure Fox was born blind, while Maria got slashed across the eyes by a weapon. Different kinds of optical damage.
Adam might've been using a cloth similar to Gauze or Burlap in that you can see through it if it's right in front of your eyes.
I think maria goggles link to her optical nerve since what she got damaged were the eyes. If Fox's blindness comes from the nerves instead of the eye the goggles wouldn't work.
Also Adam could use sensory aura, I mean his left eye is damaged he could have trained it. We already saw Ren sense enemies before seeing them several times.

This... With how complicated and creative many concepts in RWBY are, it can be hard to accept a simple explanation for the veil/blindfold. I also liked the idea that it was actually Blake's bow that she tossed in the sea. He was that obsessed. It is hard to make it fit in the timeline how he would have gotten it. But it makes him even creepier in my head cannon.

Not surprising. As much as some fans love Team CFVY, they are the minor-est of minor characters.
After Atlas they are no doubt writing the RWBY crew to go TO Vacuo next so we could possibly meet CFVY and SSSN again
We might meet CFVY in volume 9? 10? Maybe then we learn more about them.
Imagine how terrifying this would be in the hands of somebody with a huge amount of income for example the Weiss family it would essentially be a real life pay to win they got to be very careful with this and it's probably the reason they didn't explore it too much as it would be hard to put it into Canon without other wealthy individuals showing a huge amount of interest that has to say that it was her uncle's design or something like that otherwise there would be a pothole of why doesn't every wealthy family use it if some random can use it sparingly imagine tab unsparingly somebody else could use it with the money to support it no I realised the argument to this is that works with her semblance even if you have the Enemies gun that doesn't necessarily mean you really know how to use it but her semblance as in really special it allows her to copy somebody's fighting style very very easily but to a trained individual they could to do something similar without needing it to be a semblance this would seem like an overpowered semblance at high school but as you start to fight more powerful individuals as you start to fight adults it would seem underpowered weak even I like to envision it is training wheels really powerful early on but start to get list so later on now obviously not every adult is going to be able to read somebody's moves almost instantaneously but if you're fighting somebody who lives for a fight or was brought up around fighting it wouldn't be too hard to expect a loss especially if they have a semblance combat oriented this is a very interesting someone's which would be very hard to balance and the story along with her interesting weapon sorry I use voice to text I could go back and fix it but I'm too lazy you should be able to figure out what I mean to abbreviate what I said for those that don't have the time her semblance can be seen as overpowered to children but not to veterans her weapon is broken unless they say that her uncle made it or something otherwise any other rich family would use it she has to have a Monopoly on the technology to make it otherwise it breaks the Canon

I think it was established, when aura was first introduced, that it gives you a heightened sense prescience. And Ren was able to sense stuff like Tyrian and the Nuckleeve approaching during season four. And considering so much of Adam's fight style revolves around deflecting enemy attacks to charge his semblance, it'd make sense he developed this aspect of his aura so much.
@@InoMercy Plus we can pretty much asume that Adam's left eye isn't totally functional, so it makes sense that he trains the sensory part of his aura.
Also, even though he was wearing black peace of cloth over his eyes, it could have been very thin material. Thin enough for him to see through it.
YUUUUS. I knew Coco was a fashionista, but I didn't know she basically had claustrophobia. Now I want to hold a small version of her and protect her from the dark, which is a bonus because Coco is my favorite girl.
Also Fox being a prankster makes sense because Foxes are generally protrayed as tricksters.
As for the Adam thing, chances are it is a thin enough fabrics he can se through it, considering he is a faunas and most have night vision, his eyes are probably better than a human's, thus allowing him to see.
Bruuuuuuuh, I keep on forgetting Adams a bull faunus. That makes more sense now on why he can see through the blindfold on his 2B stuff.

There is Eidetic Memory and Photographic Memory which needs to be called out.
Eidetic is having memories so clear, they are vivid as if they happen in the current time, right in front of you. Sometimes, all the way senses of tasting, hearing and so on.
Photographic is more related to information in itself and does not come with the visual, it means you just know it
For example, an Eidetic memory means you experience everything.
Photographic is more like, you look at something and while you may not remember visually like a page or event, what happened is right in your brain. As example, if you study a book, you may not visualize each page but everything you read, you remember clearly and never forget. If a person tells you something, you may not remember it visually all the information is there from what they said. It's a strange event cause even if you don't see it in your mind, you know the colours they wore, etc. You just will always remember.
Or another example: say you study for a test. Eidetic memory would literally see the book in front of them they read. Photographic remembers everything written but not the entire image of the book. One is vivid visually, the other information.
And this is the part where you must realize, Velvet will literally never forget being bullied by Cardin.

I would not mind at all if they brought Team CFVY back into the story proper full time. Velvet is such a sweetie and the whole team are diehard badasses. Its not like ROBYNJRS couldn't use the reinforcements
For Fox, I get the vibe the winking thing is him trying to be more warm and open. He's someone who doesn't speak, doesn't look at you (he's blind) and likes to play jokes. It probably puts people off. So he actively tries to be more playful, as best he can. As for when he picked it up, sounds like a backstory thing. His aura sensing thing perfectly lines up for a dialogue such as "Why does your eye keep twitching like that?" Toward whoever he picked it up from.
An interesting sequil for this book would be a version centered around team FNKY probably an aftermath of what might happen to Atlas in the next volumes

Doesn’t Ren perform similar aura techniques as Fox like when he sensed Tyrian before he attacked RNJR? He also did the aura pulse that makes Grimm explode.
And also sensed the two headed serpent in one of the first episodes while they were explaining aura.

If you put a single layer of cloth snug over your eyes you can see threw it. But others cant see in.
I used to use this trick for haloween costumes. Put nilon over your head, then the mask on. This hides all your skin color around the jaw and the eyes. But dose not impair vison.

For how Adam could see with the blindfold, you do remember in Volume 4 Ren was able to feel Tyrian from quite a ways away without seeing him, so "aura sight" is totally a thing.

Well, the members of Team RWBY would have figured out that Blake was a Faunus much quicker than they did in canon if she didn't have human ears, so it makes sense that Faunus with animal ears also have human ears.
I always assumed that adam’s “blindfold was made out of the same material that Halloween masks are made of. The type that you can see out of but not into.

Loved this book! Just got Before the Dawn and can't wait to dive in with Teams SSSN, and CFVY working together. Finally get to meet the rest of the Team!
Adam could see because the Black Cloth he was using was shear, so it was just like looking through Panty Hose that are pulled over your head.
It only looked like he couldn't see because of the black color and the fact that you couldn't see his eye's through it......
BUT, but, he could see through it!

I think we can all universally agreed: team CFVY is a badass.
It's awesome learning about these characters. From what I've heard the book series really goes into depth about other things that aren't the main cast, and Team CFVY was the set I was most interested in when watching the show, so I'm really thinking of investing and buying all the books cause they really seem great.
Different blindfolds, when made from different materials, allow for different amounts of light to pass through. What appears opaque from a distance can seem transparent (or semi-transparent) up close. Just think about how sunglasses work. I know, I work a 3rd shift job and often have to use something to cover my eyes so I can sleek when it is daylight out, so I have to keep in mind which materials I use for that or it won't work.
The reason why he knows what a wink is is most likely because of his “telepathy “ because winking is sometimes involuntary but it’s usually something you think about before doing. Also what he has seems more like telepathic sensing or empathetic visualization(which is the ability to feel and see and feel natural auras and emotions in your vicinity) not just regular telepathy because then he could read minds and talk in a person’s head .
CFVY is my favourite 'outside-of-RWBY-JNR' team!

Also, about the Adam thing, someone probably said something so pardon the redundancy if it's already been said. There are blindfolds that you can see out but others can't see in. Like with Riku in Kingdom Hearts 2 and 358/2. Hope this clears that bit up.

When it comes to adam's blindfold there actually is a pretty straightforward explanation. A large number of materials can be worn over the eye and appear solid when worn on the skin but not impede vision much. I used a similar trick for a nazgul look one halloween when i was younger. And indidnt even have the approptiate cloth. I improvised it with a knitted scarf. But materials like that are well used in cinema and theatre to give actors apparent lack of a face and the like. I mean the classic scream mask used cloth over the eyes the same way. Generally it does dim vision a little. But even at night its workable. And thats with normal human eyes.
He is so experienced as a stealth type character he already pays attention to senses besides eyesight.
Since I didnt want to be spoiled on backstories. I just went ahead and skipped around to learn just the semblances.

I'm pretty sure that Adam can see through the holes in the cloth. I can do the same with a hoodie, just put it over my eyes to cover my face, yet still clearly enough to effortlessly navigate
In terms of the cloth over the eyes, I have a mask that I fitted with a black cloth. I could still see through the fabric, but only if there is enough light. The fabric was silky on one side, and thought on the other. The silkyness of the fabric prevented you from looking through one side, so perhaps Adams cloth works like that?
I didn't know Fox is blind and holy crud I never would have guessed that Yatsuhashi had such a super villain power. Imagine it someone like Torchwick could wipe memories.

come to think of it, Yatsuhashi might have one of the best PVP semblance out of everyone we met. Like, with the case of his little sister, i assume he can erase any memory anyone has, but difficulty varies. However, disorienting people is easily one of the least-fun way to use his semblance. I can already see him completely make his enemies unaware of his teammate's existence, or making him or her forgetting that they are enemies at all, possibly even making them forget about their own weapon! these are very powerful ways to utilize a memory wipe because it can create opening vital to the outcome the entire fight. The fact that we never get to see him use it in the show kind of made me die a little inside.

But how does velvets semblance work? If semblances drain aura, does her recalling how people fight drain aura? Or does she retain that memory at all times.
I don't like the idea of semblances that are alway active. They feel like they confuse things.
And on fox, I don't think its weird that a blind person would wink. Thats like saying deaf people speaking is weird, but some learn to despite that for whatever reason. And for someone who likes messing with people it doesn't seem too odd.
I imagine that Adam could see just fine, It wasn't a Blind fold but probably cloth or even Blakes Ribbon. I have a bunch of Black shirts that if I look through them I can see through, and as a Fanus he probably had better sight than me.

I believe Adam could see through the blindfold because Faunus have excellent night vision, as they claimed in Volume 1.

There was a theory a while back that Yatsuhashi was also the grimm lutenist. this would explain how he never got caught.
I think Adam's blindfold/mask uses the old magician's trick of a mesh blindfold. When you look at it from a distance (as an observer), it looks solid. When it's literally within an inch of your eyes, you actually see through the open spaces in the mesh, and your mind quickly learns to compensate for the small areas that are actual fabric that you can't see through. Your view is slightly dimmer than having nothing in front of your eyes, but you can actually see surprisingly well through such a mask.
Adam actually did one of the biggest things a Faunus can do. All Faunus have heightened senses so all five of Adam's senses were heightened in that fight he could see Blake even though he was blindfolded.
Adam is part animal. And animals can use things like echo-location and their hearing.
I don't think Adam was able to see. Just had enhance senses like hearing do to his training like a ninja/samurai
