Outside Xtra welcome back show of the weekend. Missed you. Love the timey-wimey opening. So many fun topics and moments 🤣
One page Mario Tennis RPG you say? I’ve got it:
Acquire a copy of Mario Tennis for the GameBoy Colour or GameBoy Advanced. Complete story and level both Ellen’s and Luke’s characters. Transfer to corresponding N64 or GameCube Mario Tennis game. Fight-I mean play.
There, done. I predict Ellen winning in three straight sets because she’ll max her slice and backhand à la Roger Federer/Andre Agassi.
Welcome home!
*edit* This is why you should watch the video before commenting...
Luke gets two extra History points for correctly associating "Diva" with eating stuffed dormice, correctly placing the term in ancient Rome.
One point is deducted for casting Ellen as a household slave.
Jane is pissed. She hid her Time travelling machine in Pikachu, so no one can find it, and you told everyone. And Luke, you wasted time travelling juice to scoop people on a video game news? You could of gone back in time and take a triceratop egg before a volcano explode and bring back your own triceratop. Now Jane will take back her time machine and guard it better.
Since the notebook clearly left with Luke and Ellen but didn't arrive with them. I think it travelled to Hideo Kojima years in the past and gave him the idea for Death Stranding creating a time paradox! Either that or the continuity is incorrect.
Let's go with option A!
So Death Stranding's origin is a temporal paradox? That would explain a few things...
Who am I kidding, _nothing_ makes any of this easier to understand.
Patrik, it's pretty safe to assume unless you have a baby, a mason jar and a guitar-lead handy you never will.
(P.S. please don't combine babies, mason jars and guitar-leads even if you DO happen to have them handy. Thnx!)
D0nATr0n Fortunately, I have neither of those things handy.
😂😂😂😂
Bad idea using the time travel Pikachu guys, last time Andy ended up becoming a planet and taking over the world.
Yeah, he ended war, cured cancer and convince George Lucas to rewrite the prequel and not sell Star Wars to Disney. Too bad Jane got mad her plan didn't work, because Andy refuse to listen to her and gave her the world and went back to time and fixed everything.
Slew One but what about the time jane won over the word, reveled mike to be an Android and luke to be a cyborg that she created to take over the world and it all ended when she finally destroyed james the vampire on top of her new and functional doxth star. She was a good ruler a strict and merciless one but a good one ...---...
Slew One Sure. Jane "fixed it".
Wait, that is the time line yet to come. If you know about it, You either work for Jane and seen her mechanization or there is a rift in the time space continuum. Needless to say, you are a loose end and Jane needs to clean up. Hope James doesn't find out Jane is going to infect him with the vampire virus to give the world an enemy to rally behind Jane as our savior.

Andy has got to be the voiceactor for Icarus!
Nah, it'll probably be Frank Welker or something :P
Frank Welker is a great choice, or maybe Jim Cummings. And I just said that about Andy. XD
The menacing Orc towers above you, his figure completely blotting out the sun. He hefts a massive weapon out of the sheath on his back. The tennis racket glistens red in the Sun. Roll for initiative.
Sovash Chetty It's the Adventure Zone!
If the next set doesn't include something like this I'm gonna be so pissed
Didn't Luke roll a 5 twice? And yet Ellen didn't score. Even in a game of dice-tennis, Mario still plays dirty against Luigi
Sure. When playing a competetive game of tennis against a cold-blooded sniper, why wouldn't you cheat and then rub it in his face with a lot of aggressive taunting?

I haven't read a paleontology book in over 20 years and I still remember that what Luke has on his shirt is an Archaeopteryx fossil that was famous because it was complete or almost complete. I don't know if I should be proud of my brain for that, because I don't remember what I ate yesterday.

By in large I have to agree with Luke that the Spartans were well, baddies. This isn't to say that the Athenians were always saints but of course Socrates criticized the Athenians quite a bit, he was FROM Athens and the nature of the Socratic method is to challenge things to tear down people's preconceptions and get people to critically think. That's why he's asking you questions that make you want him to shut up. That was his nature. He himself described himself as a horsefly, constantly pestering people to as he put it: "sting people and whip them into a fury, all in the service of truth." If he had lived in Corinth for instance, then Corinth would likely have received most of his criticism.

Not only not scoring, but also 5 or below is a racket hit... Luke's racket broke, y'all
I haven't read a paleontology book in over 20 years and I still remember that what Luke has on his shirt is an Archaeopteryx fossil that was famous because it was complete or almost complete. I don't know if I should be proud of my brain for that, because I don't remember what I ate yesterday.
Your brain retained the important bits. Be proud :)
Finally neither of you are stuck in a shipping container or off becoming a Sith Lord!
Caitlin RC now I really want to see the two of them playing Star Wars: The Old Republic and agonising over every single light side/dark side choices!
AJ Zebadua yeah me to! 👍
'Socrates in real life believed that philosophy should achieve practical results for the greater well-being of society..'
Socrates in Assassin's Creed: "how can we see if our eyes arent real?"
Gummihals So which of those hung out with Keanu Reeves and Alex Winter? Or is there a third one floating around out there? PARADOX!!!
Gummihals it wouldn't be the worst historical inaccuracy the game has committed. (squints at the battle footage)
Gummihals he also had the paradoxical habit of having completely random and esoteric thought expiriments that influenced both plato and Diogenes, plato got the more esoteric and hypothetical views whereas diogenes got his anfettered realism, socrates asking how we could see if our eyes are invisible is close to something he actually would ask, which was if eyes are the view to the soul, then are our eyes invisible or is our soul in our eyes, or does the soul even exist
No, he would ask, if mirrors aren't real, how can our eyes be real?
OMG its Ellen!
*Throws poke-ball at face*
Did you throw it at your own face?
Wow you must be happy to see Ellen and Luckily she tired herself out from Solo Luke was right! 👍
Ah so Irvine Spiegel has trapped himself in a poke-ball? Amateur move to make when trying to catch the uncatchable Ellen. When you finally get out, what you need to do is shoot darts at her, grab her DNA and make a Ellen Park. What could possibly go wrong?!?!?!
Wait there were two Lukes and Ellens in our universe at the same time? I'm assuming they didn't meet, because currently our timeline hasn't imploded.
Jane placed a paradox machine in her time machine. That's how future Andy met past Andy. YOu do know she's the Mistress.
2 Ellen's in the same 'verse?
I don't think reality could handle such cuteness 😊
Even if they did, it couldn't change anything... Novikov Self-consistency principle :D
Anthony Price. DOn't worry, Jane is working on reducing her cuteness, by turning her to the dark side. Forcing her to sit next to and listen to Andy lecture her on history made her somewhat murderous.
I'm assuming Pre-E3 Luke and Ellen were sent forward in time. Poor kids were probably really upset they they missed all the fun. Hopefully, Post-E3 Luke and Ellen were able to get more batteries.
Why isn't Diogenes not an option in the poll? He was friends with dogs and lived in a barrel, if that's not great philosophy I don't know what is!
At the same time, Socrates regularly praises the Spartans, and even goes as far as to call them the wisest people in Greece. And when you say the Spartans were baddies, do you mean to call the Athenians goodies? Even the Athenian general, Thucydides, who recorded the Peloponnesian War didn't reduce it to that. They both did bad things and both had reasonable causes that they believed in. The Spartans were mainly fighting against the imperialist tendencies that Athens was showing and to stop them essentially monopolising and creating an empire where they exploited the smaller nations through threat of force, like they had shown as willing to do following the Persian War.
"And when you say the Spartans were baddies, do you mean to call the Athenians goodies?"
"This isn't to say that the Athenians were always saints"
I think it's fair to say that Athens and Sparta were always conspiring to conquer one another, as you saw the Spartans do, with the help of _Persia_ no less, at one point. I call the Spartans baddies because their society was to put it scientifically, really scary. From casting off children to whipping boys till they bled to death as a right of passage to their ubiquitous pederasty to declaring an annual war on their slaves, they did a lot of things that we would consider unconscionable today.
I will give them credit for their occupation of Athens though and installation of The Thirty. It was a pretty bad time for the Athenians and the thirty even executed some of their own moderate members but it was not as bad a time as the massacre the Thebans had planned for them for sure. Though I would take Socrates's praise of the Spartans in perspective. For one thing we know that Socrates favored an autocracy, the likes of which they had in Sparta, and the Greeks as a whole favored nothing more than military glory. Socrates's own obituary said nothing of his work as an educator or philosopher, the only thing it talked about was that he was a rower at Salamis. Socrates would have spent most of his life hearing the Spartan's version of Thermopylae, including how they were the "saviors of Greece" (never mind the fact that they actually lost or the others that also fought to the last man, but that's propaganda for you) and I'm sure that the hardships that his own people endured during the aftermath of the Democracy-wrought Peloponnesian war only helped to further sustain his beliefs.
As for their reasonable nature... Shrug? I mean these are people who declared it illegal for any citizen to have a profession, didn't develop cavalry because citizens were supposed to be equals and a man on a horse would constitute a "mounted elite" and who's reliance on a slave class that out-numbered them 7 to one drove them to a state of constant paranoia. And who could forget that time they invited all the slaves to elect leaders to receive citizenship only to murder the "winners" as they arrived, right? I could go on and on but I'm tired of writing.
I also gotta throw in here that I wouldn't talk too much about the Spartan's commitment to countering Athenian imperialistic tendencies as though it was done altruistically. It was in their best interest to counter these and it's not like the ranks of the Helots only grew through breeding. They themselves subjugated several groups of people.
Don't get me wrong, I could go on about Athens, their acquisitiveness and their practice of Ostracism and the execution of Socrates and the like too but this post is about why I called the _Spartans_ baddies.
I like how the file photo you have for Johnny is him at the end of his tether, head in hands.
That was a wonderful picture of Johnny you had there. It really brings to mind the long suffering of all DM's
I'm so happy everyone finally let Ellen make a pun without booing
coolcattime Finally! Ellen gets the recognition she deserves! I love Ellen’s jokes 🤗
Luke: "My history's not amazing". Also Luke: Dinosaurs were feathered!!!!
*Set 400 years before Origins* Ellen: A little before AC: Origins.
Think Ellen has been abusing time travelling Pikachu too much!
I had no idea Origins was set in 49 BCE, I expected it to be over a millennium earlier!
BCE? Is that before Christ existed?
A lot of people refer to Common Era and Before Common Era, rather than Anno Domini and Before Christ.
Back to normality with Show of the Weekend I see. I've missed these over the past couple of weeks
Marcus Hough Yeah me to! It must have been really fun at E3
Yes, that's right. He drew Jane "as Prudence". He definitely hasn't secretly seen her true form or anything...
Luke needs help with his death stranding conspiracys and that notebook should be called the "death-stranding-note" (I'm not sorry)
Ryan Cleland I'd say boo, but honestly I just wish I'd thought of it first...
Well done, you deserve an apple!!!
Write the name of a game in development in there and it is going to be delayed indefinitely.
Much philosophy. So crates. Wow.
Socrates? The phi-lo-so-phisor?
All we are is dust in the wind, dude.

What about FEBRUARY?
I feel like I have replaced childhood fave Blue Peter with Show of the Weekend, they both have amiable presenters and art corners and all!
James’ burn at 12.54. 😂 Aww bless Luke. 🎈
So... Luke is secretly a god now? That explains why he hasn't died yet. And the tallness. And also the fabulous hair.
That post-credit scene is better than Marvel's!
Omg. Last time Jane said my name, this time Ellen? I'm 2/5 of my way through collecting the whole OxCrew!
Thank you so much for these videos I've really come to love watching them every week. i used to watch insideXbox back in the day then i found outsidexbox and id watch their stuff occasionally but ever since you guys started this channel I've been hooked on both. keep up the good work xx
When Luke said "my history is not amazing-"
I imagined thumping footsteps from off camera and Andy just diving into shot to enlighten Luke on Sparta and it's place in the Greek time line
Seeing Dob makes me miss the DnD adventures. Come on guys, we need more :P
Show of the Weekend, it felt like forever!
Is it just me who got a little mad at the fact Lukes points were on the left but he was on the right hand side of the sofa? O.o
How would the "special rules" not just be a dnd combat scenario without the tiling? Each character gets a couple of spells skinned as tennis moves, maybe you could even set up a special tiling system! Brb, I've had some ideas
Luke and Ellen are such children, and I love it.
"Hey man, whooo are you to choooooose!"
I'm very disappointed with the poll this episode. The best greek filosopher is obviously Diogenes:
- lived in a barrel
- Once took a dump in the middle of a public theater
- publicly sassed Alexander the Great
- took a plucked chicken to Plato's academy, held it up, and screamed 'BEHOLD, A MAN!' (Plato once commented sarcasticly that all creatures without feathers could be considered humans)
-Once went around the city with a lit lantern in broad daylight to 'find an honest man'
- he also reguarly disrupted Plato's lectures by bringing snacks in order to distract the attendants
The man is a legend.
Show of the weekend!!! Yay. (Even though it was filmed before E3, I’m still happy to see it. I missed having it and Show of the Week to watch).
Tennis, the only way for the Mario brothers to show some Love
Omg, you two legit get funnier every episode. My new favorite show on YT right now 👍
Your opening sketches, I hafta say, OXTRA, are always soooooooo ace !!! ✨🖤💛💜💙💚❤💖💗💜💖💛🖤💙💜💛❤💚
That awkward moment when you want to time travel but someone forgot to charge the time travel Pikachu. Smh..
Jacques Celliers 🤣
Silly Luke. A slice is when, after losing the match and stepping up to the net to congratulate your opponent, you use the sharpened edge of your racket to SLICE off their hand so they can't humiliate you again.
18:39 oh, I actually have that exact Luigi toy, and it's in fact in a drool right next to me as I watch this video.
These shows are so well thought out man I really enjoy it cheers guys xx
The last bit with Ellen and the sofa is a good representation of how I reacted to this Show of The Weekend. You've been missed guys.
The thing with Assassins Creed is that although Origins was set around 300 years before this, in AC2 they tell you that the first recorded use of the hidden blade was to kill Xerxes by an assassin called Darius. This was around 50 years before the events of Odyssey
8:12 AhhhhhhhhHHHH!! Look at this Monster Hunter 3-ass underwater melee fighting! I think I'm hyped for this game now! :D
Ooooh wasn't expecting a SotW today! Welcome back guys
Ironically, as a mercenary for hire, you are more of an assassin than any of the other characters ever were.
That's what happens when you use an infinity stone for a lozenge, Luke.
Ellen's hair is absolutely beautiful! 😍😍😍😍
I've been binge watching the series Vikings and wish they'd make a Vikings game like AC Odyssey but with Vikings and their gods I think that would be fun!
I feel like I haven’t seen show of the weekend in forever. Please never leave again :(
Good to see Show of the Weekend is back! Missed you guys!
Jumped on this as soon as I saw the notification!! I missed you guys!!!
Gotta say, they've been nailing it with the art direction with Origins and Odyssey. This world looks gorgeous.
I've been waiting for both you of to be in the same episode again for a long time
I relate to Luke on tying balloons. It's really hard to get them tied without losing any of the air or getting your fingers trapped.
Yay! Ellen and luke together again!
I love the outside xbox peeps but no one can compare to these two
Love the reference back to Penguin Ellen. lol, I did not see that coming and it was hilarious.
(squeaks in surprise!) thank you!!! for being awesome and reading my comment!!
I love that you added a stinger to the show! Of course, you realize no one will ever click one of your on-screen links again, because they don't want to miss a post-credit scene...
I didn't expect the spanish inq.... I mean Show of the Weekend, but i'm glad to see you two after all that E3 content :D
Wait! Does this mean that every time Dob did thunderwave, it was actually in slow motion and he just used zone speed?! MY LIFE IS A LIE!!
The way we always played 'd20 Tennis' was that to keep hitting the ball back to the opponent one had to equal or beat their roll, constantly escalating.
We need more D&D! Love all the Ellen cuteness in this episode. I can't wait to watch you all play a 1 sheet tennis RPG.
Im so glad to see you guys back!
See, this is why time travel is dangerous.
Yay!! You guys are back. Miss you crazy fools :)
I'm loving the Bill and Ted reference by Luke
Bloody hell you two always make me want to play the games you talk about. First you got me playing Skyrim again then far cry 5 and now your talking me into assassins creed... /sigh i havnt enough time!
27:09 Okay, being serious for a moment here. This is a lesson that a lot of people (especially us men) need to learn: when the person you're talking to looks like they're faking their interest, the polite thing for you to do is to switch topics, if not right then, then soon. Sometimes people can't outright tell you that they're bored, so it's your responsibility to keep your eyes peeled for "please stop talking" social cues (if there's nothing beyond your control stopping you from picking up on them, of course). If it's appropriate (meaning the other person can answer honestly), a good tactic is to ask if the other person has anything to say or would like to switch topics before you move on to a new point in your topic.
Not accusing anybody at OX of rudeness or conversation-monopolizing, but just a general rule of thumb that some people might not know.
MYKONOS!
I’ve actually been to Greece including several islands.
Mykonos was very pretty, and I would love to go again.
When Ellen said who would want an orange car my first thought was who wouldn't want an orange car only is it was luminous orange ASBO orange if you would. Show of the weekend always makes me smile and I loved the end part where Ellen was hugging the couch.
Not even 4 am here but I heard the notification so here I am.
i can't wait to see how assassins creed odyssey continues on from super mario odysseys story
You already know we've been waiting for this
I officially 100% origins with all dlc finished yesterday and let me say it was worth the work on my days off
Luke: "Now, my history's not amazing..."
I'm honestly impressed Andy managed to not sarcastically shout 'You don't say...'
squalk25 or Andy shouting Boo!
29:12 I knew it!! Luke has demon blood in his veins! It all makes sense now.😱
I’ve 100% completed Origins. My first one on xbox. So proud of myself!!
And they're back!
Ah I've missed show of the weekend! So glad to see it's back, even if this was technically filmed before they left.
Also I just wanted to share the important information that Kingdoms of Amelur is on sale on steam right now and you can get it and all the dlc for $9.99 until July 5th if anyone wants to play Ellen's obsession for themselves.
Ellen’s back
"We ran out of film"? You shoot these digitally, don't deny it!
Every time Ellen mentions AC: Odyssey she looks like the cat that caught the canary. Such joy is infectious.
Loved the tabletop tennis game!
Next time on Show of the Weekend! Ellen & Luke skip through time to stop Jane from becoming the first Galactic Empress!
Peter Marron yes down with the Empire again!
Oh man I spent 120 hrs on Origins by February (3 months after release). I am so ready for Odyssey already ;)
so assasins creed just going further back to the past until 10,000 BC but I rather call it ASSASINS CREED : PRIMAL
You get a cup of strawberries and whipped cream and you start a game of DTennis, and all of a sudden you're at Wimbledon, and you didn't even have to buy a ticket.
Don't worry Luke I can't tie Balloons either, and I'm 20.
Ewan Hodson I can’t tie those god forsaken Balloons either
Yeeees finally a proper show of the weekend with the OG hosts like the weekend gods intended
You’re baaaaack!!!💜
I'm so glad your back i was starting to get withdrawal symptoms.
Nobody going to talk about the tiny kraken at 8.08? Just me??
Dexterity ChecK: roll to see if the orc lullabies the goblins
just binged all the D&D Vids Cant wait for more those are the best
I've drank a fair amount of vodka, but that doesn't change the fact that you're both very charming personalities. Almost 2 years of constant and quality content, and I love you all. (Platonicly)
All means including James, I love phantom menace and I'm glad you're another prequel fan. * whispers "sorry you work with Star Wars gentiles")*
I was expecting Luke to take Mario and smudge luigi's shoes... Again 😂
You totally would rock a side braid Ellen! :)
