  • In episode 141 of Truck House Life, join me on a tour of the Alpacka raft packraft factory in Mancos, Colorado with one of the owner of Alpacka rafts, Thor Tingey! I'll also review a brief history of the packraft and talk about my thigh strap contribution to the packrafts of today. From Dick Griffith to Roman Dial to the Tingey family (owners of Alpacka raft), I'll do my best to quickly fill you in on packrafting! If you're interested in an Alpacka packraft (by far the best packrafts made), check them out and tell them Timmy/Tim Johnson sent you! Enjoy!
If you're interested in packrafting, make sure to check out my good friend Luc Mehl's book " THE PACKRAFT HANDBOOK ", by far the best book out there on packrafting! Luc is the grandaddy of packrafting safety is is determined to spread good knowledge and technique to the packrafting community...

Great Video. I have been looking at inflatable kayaks for awhile. About 5 years now. Have not run across these in my searches. We have a small classc c with limited carry capacity and I ride motorcycles and atvs. This could be awesome to carry on any of them and blow up and use at lakes or ponds etc. only weighing 8lbs or less is fantastic and how small they fold up. I dont think the price is bad at all. If you looking at an investment and something you’ll use an so versatile. Right on par with many high end inflatables. I could see these lasting a lifetime. I love the fact of how there made and all the people involved. Reminds me of my first job making deicers for airplanes. Similar processes and a small shop with great people who worked hard. Thanks for sharing and taking us a long.

I used to play drums for Gigi Love of S.L.C. in Moab. She got married in 'Dragonfly Canyon' which is a locals canyon West on 279, just on the North side of the Colorado River. A 6' tall steel drainage grate for 200' leads you in.

Hey Timmy ! You mentioned Dick Griffith in this video, did a 21 day private raft trip with Dick thru the Grand Canyon many years ago. What a interesting guy, I think he was probably my age,67, when we did that trip and he hiked the Tapeats, surprise valley hike with us and just wore all of us out even in the 100 plus weather. He did the whole trip with a soup can a spoon and a fork to eat out of but what a great guy. Have lost touch with him, just wondering if you know if he is still alive? Really enjoy your channel!

I was looking at the Wolverine Packraft(online). My question is can it stand up to two dogs (one large 60 lbs. and one small 15 lbs)? They SUP with me and use to ride on my sit on top kayak before i sold it. I am actually looking at Element (inflatable)Kayaks .Just for cruising the lakes with them and can fit under my bed in my van. Thanks Tim for the info.and the tour. Trucks lookin dope as ever.

Seems like all we see nowadays is "designed in USA, built in CHINA". Like who cares were it's designed if it is built in CHINA! lol
