  • Nobel laureate Muhammad Yunus - a longtime political foe of Bangladesh's ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina - has been named the country's interim leader.
The 84-year-old was appointed a day after Ms Hasina fled the country following weeks of deadly protests that brought her resignation.
Students who led the mass protests that unseated Ms Hasina refused to accept a military-led government and pushed for Prof Yunus to lead the interim administration.

If you allow him to govern you without any democratic legitimacy, then this will be an even worse dictatorship.
So yes, he may be cute on the outside, but the army put him into government. You didn't.
In a democracy, it's the people of the nation who put their representatives into government, not the army. The army is there only to serve the nation, not to rule it.

Do not vote for BNP Awamileague or Jamat. Vote for totally a new party a fresh young mind who love the country and take Bangladesh to prosperity. Then only those innocents students who lost their lives will rest peace. Otherwise Bangladesh will go back to dark age again.

Lemme answer the first question. I am an student from Bangladesh. Yes most educated people in Bangladesh are very much looking forward to Professor Yunus taking over. Yes there's still some unrest going on but that's expected as there's no government and police force now. But on the bright side we the students are looking out to help people from political criminals, harm or torture on the minority group. We also cleaned the capital and the big cities, managed the traffic for these past few days. We take it upon ourselves to build a beautiful democratic country. So be patient and keep supporting us.

@@Bengalsultanate7 It's not right to judge an action just because it is haram in Islam.
For instance, eating cow meat in Hindu is forbidden or looked down upon, but Muslims don't think that it is forbidden.
My point is generally, judging actions based on religion is illogical because those judgements are based on beliefs that is bereft of rationality. But of course people who are Muslims will judge him based on Islam. This is why I want a government that is completely secular, separating Islam from politics and law.

Most people are looking at this very optimistically, but practically speaking Dr Yunus and the idealistic bunch of students won't prevail long against the wishes and agenda of the Army, BNP and Jamaat-e-Islami. It is highly simplistic to imagine that these groups will peacefully acede to every plan and action of Dr Yunus and students. In my view, Bangladesh will become a hotbed of islamic extremism in a year's time. Good people (e.g., Dr Yunus, students) with sincere intent rarely prevail against crafty politicians (e.g., Army, BNP, Jamaat-e-Islami) with their own agenda.
