      Hello:) Today's binoculars are plastic boxes with poor optical values. The soviet ones, as I call it, are optically great, they are also made of metal. You can buy some new Nikon binoculars for $300 or an old tin one for $50 and I think it will be similar. In mine the prisms were flooded and I couldn't clean it, I can see it. You want to sell or keep your binoculars. Everyone will be pleased. Regards :)

      Hi! I am glad that the movie was useful, I am very pleased. Perhaps the right lens should be on the left? Try to replace the right lens with the left one (the big one in the front), it is the easiest one. It may also be useful to unscrew this lens slightly and spin it dry. At the front, the rims holding the lens have the shape of a cradle, as I remember. The lens may not be placed horizontally. Or If you have time, reassemble and compare the small lenses to the same alignment as the part that sharpens well.

    They used black goo to seal the metal flanges (joining tabs) on these 1970s metal binoculars. What was it and what to use in its place? Silicone would be a too strong bond I'm afraid.

    • @langowski007
      @langowski007  Před 2 lety

      Silicon as such, e.g. construction / modeling, is too strong when it dries up. There are silicones that do not dry and have a semi-fluid consistency. I have one in the tube, it is thick but it does not dry up. The name: silicone oil. It protects against moisture, it can be used from smearing the hinges on the door to smearing the gasket in the wristwatch. It is characterized by resistance to conditions such as moisture, "does not creak" on it, it is easy to unscrew something there always. I hope I helped with the answer :) Regards 👍

    • @andyboa8107
      @andyboa8107 Před 2 lety

      @@langowski007 I use silicone oil as preservative for plastics and rubber. I think it's more lubricant than sealant and it's fluid for sure, could evaporate and create haze. Don't you mix it up with some product brand name? I found something that may be better. It's called Hylomar Blue - a non-setting sealant or another is Hylomar Hylotyte Red - a semi-setting one. I just bought both online. Also I found online what they used back in the day and it's probably not produced any more. It was used for sealing petrol drums during the WW2, then formula was changed slightly after the war and in 1970s it apparently got out of use. Of today's products plummer's putty is closest to it but it's white or gray.

      @langowski007  Před 11 měsíci

      If everything was ok before, it means that you did not put it in the way it was before. I think the prism is inserted backwards or the lenses. If the image is double on one telescope, you can compare the setting of all parts relative to the other working one. Did you take notes or photos before? If not, then by trial and error, you will submit again and you will be fine.

      The binoculars hung in the barn in Spartan conditions for many years. When I saw it, I knew I had to have it and fix it. After a few requests, I got the binoculars for free. So, after renovation, it works perfectly. I think it owes it to the quality with which it was produced. The crowd of items makes people stop being sensitive to the ecology of "devices" and instead of taking care of it, after a slight fault, they remove the item and replace it with a new one - of lower quality.

      I'm glad you like the film :) As for the grease, I made a mistake, instead of copper (because I had one ...) I unscrewed the front lens and applied it "on my feel". It was felt that the angle changes when screwing. Maybe it's worth marking with a felt-tip pen before unscrewing? However, after folding the sharpness is excellent, everything works fine. I tried to make the lenses identical in both positions. And I need replace bad grease soon. Greetings.
