- We took our daughters, Naomi & Hannah along on the Carnival Mardi Gras cruise in August of 2021. I was still healing after a knee injury and re-injury, so I was "mobility challenged" for sure!

Absolutely the truth!! It takes a little coordination as they get to "adulting" themselves! We are looking forward to having the 5 of us together on May and November cruises this year; that is sure to be a chaotic fun family time!!

Yes, it was really nice to load up the luggage on there to get to our cabin; poor Naomi was tired of toting it around (she was still healing from her chest surgeries). Nikola was so great; wish we had spent more time at the Alchemy bar, but there were so many amazing bars and venues to check out on that ship! See you SOON on the Vista!!

Great embarkation video!! I could feel all the excitement along with you as you all started spoting all the ships from the highway. So very thoughtful of Anthony to help the elderly passengers who needed an advocate.

I’m only ten minutes into the replay and love the coverage already. It’s great to see you guys leaving the house and driving to the port. At check-in, I was surprised they take photos there. I like that Royal Caribbean has us do that in advance.

For Carnival, they only took photos at the port if the photo on your passport might look a bit different than your current appearance; they did that in Royal's port as well - I believe it's for customs. Just wait, we actually have the entire Plack family coming on a cruise in November, so there will be 5 of us!! (Thankfully we don't all share a cabin, LOL!!) Those strawberries were absolutely delicious and they don't have anything like them out on board. We SO appreciated them!💗

Yes, it was an arrangement where we swapped taking the Pride later for the chance to get onto the Mardi Gras. My injury actually helped me to be able to cruise then, since I couldn't work at the bedside at that time. We were so blessed to take the girls along on it too! Thanks for watching, John and Nancy🤗

Yes, our Eddie was in school and couldn't make this trip, unfortunately. We have a few family cruises coming up, with all 5 Placks together - cruising together in May and November! (Thankfully we don't all share a cabin on them!) Thanks so much for your sweet support, Dylan!🥰

My daughter pushed me in a wheelchair at Universal Studios. I use a scooter to get around. I can't wait to cruise again. Yall needed a bigger cabin but yall are a close family so its all good 👍

Oh boy! I am in suspense over seeing you all navigate that room with 4 people. I'm glad you all get along so well! I appreciate seeing your experience with mobility issues. We'll be sailing with my husband's new hip in about 4 weeks (about 7 weeks post op) and will likely need a wheelchair for the longer stretches, through the airports and embarkation. Thank you for the vlog- very fun to see embarkation day!
YES! The wheelchair came in very VERY handy when I needed it on this cruise!! This tiny cabin was workable for us, and the price was right! We really didn't spend long in there, because this ship had so much to see. Enjoy your cruise - the anticipation is part of the fun! I'm sending happy and healing vibes for your hubby!🤗

My friend w bad hip rented a scooter at port for our MG Cruise in Jan. Easy peasy. I did a nautical Nancy. Fell day 2 and fx my dominant humerus head fx. Still had great time
Oh NO!! I'm so sorry to hear that you hurt yourself! Glad you still had a great time! Falling on cruises happen quite often; I think it's just that people are walking more and going around places they aren't familiar with. And there's always ICE to blame (if you're ice skating, LOL!) Good to know it's really easy to rent a scooter when needed. I love your positive attitude Sallie!!

Thank you for showing us a little what it's like in a wheelchair. I want to go on a cruise badly, I've never been, but I dont want to spend thousands on a cruise only to not be able to enjoy everything like everyone else. There is so much more to think about when in a wheelchair.
I know I was able to hobble along on crutches too, but I think you could totally take a cruise in a wheelchair, and enjoy it greatly. Make sure that you reach out to the cruiseline's program to help those who need extra assistance; they will talk to you about your needs and make sure they can provide you with the best cabin and help that they can! Thanks for your comment; there are many who would love to cruise but are in wheelchairs. YOU CAN DO IT!!!
@@NauticalNurseNancy I recently joined a couple great groups on Facebook of differently abled cruisers and I feel like I have everything I need to make it happen. They've been so helpful in the groups and I'll be contacting a travel agent very soon that specializes in accessible travel to start booking my cruise! I'm hoping for a Caribbean cruise in January or February 2024. I'll likely have to book that far in advance to get everything I want/need... and it gives me time to save money. Thanks for the support and stay safe 💚

Interesting fact! I wish we could have watching a launch while we were at the Cape Canaveral area!
I just paid attention to the ship's whale tail. And then I noticed the placement of the "smokestacks". I'm curious to learn whether or not the whale tail performs aqn important function, by creating air flow to increase the speed of the exhaust, so as to prevent people at the stern from being affected by any fumes or particulates. Because why else would the designers put an air foil on top of their ship? It's not large enough to provide any benefit to the ship propulsion but it just might be what's needed to carry the stack exhaust beyond the back of the boat!
Yes, I believe that the whale tail does carry the smoke and particulates up so the passengers aren't badly affected. Sometimes, we do find that there are little black specks that come down behind the whale tail. I think it's really good that these ships are transitioning to cleaner-burning fuel. @@NauticalNurseNancy : that storm brought everything but the kitchen sink! We got ice in Southern WI, snow in the northern part of the state. Other states got severe weather.

That porter was amazing. I’m cruising soon, can you recommend how much to tip the porters? Would luggage with wheels help your daughter.
That porter was really fun!! Tipping is such a personal choice; some people actually don't tip (which I think is rather stinky of them, but I try not to judge because I am not in their shoes.) I suggest about $5-10 for the porter (at least a dollar or two per piece of luggage.) The carry-on suitcases did have 2 wheels, but those 4 wheeled ones are absolutely much better. Poor Naomi was struggling because she had 2 previous chest surgeries and taking the rolling carry-on suitcases was actually quite difficult for her. In looking back, we should have just waited the 30-45 minutes and gotten the wheelchair assist. Thanks so much for your great question.

How can you book a room that size, why did you not get adjoining rooms ?
Great question! We booked this because our daughters got added on to the cruise for very little money, and the sailing was sold out. It was fun to have them along!
Nancy, did you bring your own chair or was that in the drop off zone? Curious as my hubby "may" need wheelchair assist.
Hello this is Hannah, Nancy's daughter :) We brought our own wheelchair. I'm not sure if you're able to request one or not since we brought our own.
Hi @Heide Leskun!! Yes, we brought this folding wheelchair, but I have seen them provide wheelchairs for those that need the assistance. You may have to wait for a while, but if you are patient and just request it, I think you can get that help at the port. Have a wonderful cruise!!

Great question; I had written it in the video when he dropped us off, but it's so hard to catch it when viewing. He went to some friends of ours to park the car for the week. That's why he wasn't able to be with us till later! Thanks so much for watching!!🤗

Next time you or someone is disabled you can park for free and go straight on the ship ahead of everyone else. No waiting for the disability people.
