Have You Stopped Listening to Jesus? - Bishop Barron’s Sunday Sermon

  • Friends, in today’s Gospel, Jesus travels outside of Israel and heals a man of his deafness. Today, we live in a realm of spiritual deafness. We are bombarded with voices from outside, echoing around us until we are as incapable of hearing as the man from our Gospel. Like him, look to Jesus to heal you so that you might hear the word of God and understand his truth, rather than the lies of the world which surround us.

After 40 years of working as a nurse, I resigned from my position after being diagnosed with severe aplastic anemia. After six months , I received a call from our Pastor and invited me to be part of the evangelization program of the parish. I don’t know what this all entails but after deep discernment, I realized that there’s more to do than just nurse myself at home. “Be opened!” Our Pastor has assigned me to be the overall Coordinator of the program. Your homily reinforces my willingness and my openness to God’s plan. Please pray for me. God bless you.

@@lulabella9249 Well said! I’m publishing a weekly CZcams video on episodes from the life of Don Bosco, entitled ST JOHN BOSCO by JOE ZAMMIT. In this series I’m narrating events and miracles from the splendid life of Don Bosco. St John Bosco used to perform a miracle almost every day, through the intercession of Mary Help of Christians. From the lives of saints we can learn how to love God more and draw closer to him. Thank you.

Now, I will say Spirituality is not gained overnight, nor can it be instilled in everyone or anyone. This I can assure you. The world around us has changed before, yet keeps changing in the US, and many parts of them. For Each and Every Christian Or even Consumer Catholic May have their Own Priorities in Life. That said, May not even be as Virtuous, because of all of the distractions in life, as Bishop Barron discussed. Faith, morals, ethics, and yes, Prayer/spirituality goes hand in hand. Prayer is intimate, but should also be done together. The Art of Theology and Other Sciences is crucial and essential to help humanity. Amén. My friend, May God Bless. Amén. Being opened to hearing can do amazing things. I remember when I wasn’t sleeping well, and decided to go to church before the early mass. I was sitting, listening to morning liturgy of the hours. The words were so beautiful, inviting, and welcoming of the new day. I didn’t forget those beautiful hymns and psalms. They would call me back as I made an effort to go and listen more. I finally
purchased my own Christian prayer book, and I’m learning morning and evening prayers now. The words don’t rest with me as they did when I just sat and listened (I’m busy flipping pages), but at least I’m no longer wishing I knew how to pray those beautiful prayers.

Protestant-ish video title + Bishop Barron's amazing insight = maximum clicks. And those clicks were all worth it. The good Bishop was totally on point calling out the "I do me and you do you" mentality that is constantly foisted upon us by everything from our non-Catholic friends to our favorite media. Having and respecting other people's freedom is not bad, but it is certainly not good enough for God. Sadly, my "crowd" is pretty much indoctrinated in that mentality, so I'll have to work on that.
PS: The Jesus-plug analogy really fits well with the concept of the Eucharist. It just works!

In this series I’m narrating events and miracles from the splendid life of Don Bosco. St John Bosco used to perform a miracle almost every day, through the intercession of Mary Help of Christians. From the lives of saints we can learn how to love God more and draw closer to him. Thank you.

Thank you Bishop Barron for your great sermon today. In today's culture I think we are frightened by silence and we keep blocking it out with different forms of noise. So it's so easy to make ourselves deaf to the voice of God in our lives and it does courage to turn off our devices. But it's so worth it when we do.
