  • In this solo RPG campaign of THE BLACK SWORD HACK, the struggle between Law and Chaos is coming to an end, and reality itself is in danger. We will be following the fate of Oksana on her way from lowly thief to legendary queen, exploring our world of Doomed Alissar and uncovering grim tales of sword and sorcery following themes of dark fantasy epics inspired by the works of old masters of the fantasy and science-fiction genre, including Michael Moorcock, Fritz Leiber, Karl Edward Wagner, Jack Vance, Robert E Howard, and many more.
This episode of actual play contains an exploration of the solo RPG goodness that the BLACK SWORD HACK so easily delivers and follows our protagonists as they set out with their new companions to hunt the great beast of the seas: the leviathan!
Join me as we observe our budding anti-heroic champion on her quest to rise to greatness!

the series is awesome. You do an epic job that I honestly envy as a solo player myself, haha. Ordered the book a few days ago and been playing with the PDF on a Kindle and it's killing me. Idk if it will arrive so far here in Uruguay, South America. I might have to have it printed at a local printer shop from the PDF. Playing some Nord Barbarians

Thank you very much! Shipping's definitely a bit cursed at the moment. Here's hoping it'll get to you eventually! I certainly have my difficulties playing from tablets or with online tools only. Something about the book in hand really helps me get into it more.

Another great piece of excellent storytelling. But if I may just give a little comment, perhaps next time consider giving the "shitty ship" a name or a captain's name because hearing you say the "shitty ship" for the 5th time did not add to the storytelling. Thanks for your time. Keep em comin'

That’s a very fair point! I briefly considered naming the captain before rolling the stats, then figured they’d die pretty much instantly with the min roll and didn’t bother. The dice obviously had other plans. Now watch me name them and have them perish the next time I make a crew rating check!

"Barruk-kazad means" Let's go" in dwarven language in Middle earth. 😂

Played a dwarf minstrel when Lord of the Rings Online came out, I've heard that character yell out "baruk khazad! khazad ai-menu" so often it's burned into my brain permanently!

This feels like pure Moorcock! Mechanically, I loved the Ironsworn-like approach to the delve into the leviathan and how you managed the fleet, focusing on a single ship at each step: it's working wonderfully...

It's honestly one of the most enjoyable discoveries for me in solo gaming: making up rules for certain scene types on the spot, preferably by cannibalizing existing mechanics from other systems. Bit wonky sometimes but very fun! Oh and unless I'm mixing up some user names between here and on reddit: I believe you highlighted this series to the one true Kobayashi over there? I was rather floored to see that he's aware and seems to be happy it exists so... thanks for bringing it up! Much appreciated!

@@killtenratsrpg Thanks to you! I am learning a lot from your videos and having a great time at the same time. I am looking forward to seeing the developments of Oksana's adventures! I understand that Kobayashi's appreciation must be very rewarding for you, and I also think that for a game designer there is nothing better than seeing stories that wouldn't have existed without their games. The solo world really is a community, in its own bizarre way....
