The defending Super Bowl champion Dallas Cowboys - minus All-Pro running back Emmitt Smith - are at RFK Stadium to kickoff their 1993 season against the Washington Redskins on Monday Night Football.
Frank Gifford, Al Michaels, and Dan Dierdorf call the action for ABC. Enjoy!
Thank you so much for this! This is the one and only game my dad and I went to together - I was 11 years old and getting to watch it like this is awesome.
This is the last game that anyone in DC thought that we still had an amazing team.
Frank Gifford R.I.P
Thanks Ryan!
This was essentially the best the Redskins would do that season. After that the game they went to hell for the Redskins. Going 4-12 Richie Pettibone would be fired after that season. In week 16 the Cowboys would play the Redskins again but this time with Emmitt Smith and would crush them 38-3.
And they haven't recovered since. This franchise was never really able to adapt to the salary cap and free agency. Then the Snyder years began and that was basically the nail in the coffin. Can't believe it's almost been 30 years.
@@dcbandnerd Same could be said, for different reasons, with Jerry Jones.
This rivalry was just more exciting when the games were played at RFK and Texas Stadium.
Yes. Totally agree.
Yes I love & moss rfk stadium the real home stadium I really hope the commanders go back there soon
They Stadiums had Nothing to do with it.
Could be on th street, in tht parking lot.
The real hated and Cowboys track record of success fueled this Rivalry..still does
What makes it really great is when both teams are good
@@rgtunderworldrgt7773 while they weren’t the only factor, it’s a little much to say they had “nothing to do with it”. The Cowboys were 18-22 including playoffs at RFK. They’re 17-9 at FedEx. Washington enjoyed a significant home field advantage at RFK. They have virtually none at FedEx. Dallas had a big home field advantage at Texas Stadium. They’re fairly mediocre at AT&T. In the old stadiums, the fans were a lot closer to the action so they were louder and more intimidating. It was also a more blue collar atmosphere at RFK.
@@joerules829 And to can go find similar stats to every team in the league.
Playing at home n football means something..hence any home team w a 3,pt spread. Playing at home, yes? The bldg?
Stop. Come on. What matters is if the teams are any good when they are playing
That's what ratchets up the intensity..not tht damn building
The next morning was my first day of school in 5th grade. My Dad taped the game for me because I went to bed early.
That dropping helmet intro was the best they ever used imo.
After Harper's long TD catch from Aikman I think most of us Dallas fans thought they would be ok w out Emmitt..then Washington would end up blowing them out..then at home they lose to Buffalo and all of a sudden Emmitt's value is realized by all...even Jerry Jones...which gets him to finally pay Emmitt which then gets him back and starts the Cowboys repeat season as champs..if Dallas ekes by Buffalo that game that could have caused longer delay and that may have equaled more losses costing needed home field advantage...and Jerry's ego may have started the Dallas demise a year earlier than it already did🤷🏽♂️
Because that old fart jones is a big huevetz.
I REMEMBER THIS GAME - LIKE IT WAS YESTERDAY:
Whenever I hear people say, RB Emmitt Smith was just PRODUCT of the Cowboys' "OFFENSIVE LINE" I point to THIS GAME and the GAME against the Buffalo Bills as MY MEASURING STICK as to how GOOD / GREAT Smith was!
Did Emmitt benefit from the offensive line?
Of course he did.
But he also benefitted from the attention given to WR Michael Irvin, TE Jay Novacek, and what FB Daryl "MOOSE" Johnston did for him!
But "IF" Emmitt was just a "PRODUCT" of his offensive line - AND ANY RB CAN DO IT WITH THAT OL - how come the Cowboys didn't just GET RID OF SMITH - AND HIS BIG CONTRACT (for that era) - and kept RB Derrick Lassic (or some other "CHEAPER" RB - and his "SMALLER" contract?
I remember reading a Sports Illustrated article after this game and the Bills' game AND BOTH TEAMS SAID THE SAME EXACT THING:
WITHOUT Emmitt, we didn't even pay attention to their running game!
It was ABSOLUTELY NO PROBLEM - AT ALL - WITHOUT Smith!
WHY IS THAT?
SIDE NOTE:
I always thought this version of the Cowboys' Navy Blue Uniforms should be Dallas' THROW BACK JERSEYS!
💯 🎯
46:20 - my God Darrell Green was such an exciting player
Frank Gifford got the Redskins 1991 record wrong. They're 14-2 not 13-3. I went to this game.
Hey laope cualquiera can make un error. O es que you eres perfecto hurvetz.
The beginning of the redskins worst season since 1963
And the beginning of the end of the Redskins franchise.
I remember watching this live and thinking that Ritchie Pettibon would be a really successful NFL head coach. He only won another three games. And after he was fired at the end of '93, he never coached again.
Surprised that Reggie Brooks didn't have a better NFL career.
The Cowboys seriously need to bring those navy jerseys back. It's identical to their white jerseys, but color swapped.
NFC championship games head to head= Redskins 2, Cowboys 0
Skins were 14 and 2 not 13 and 3 in 1991
Y??? Still ganaron the SB
I don't think those Cowboys blue jerseys were that much of a jinx as the ones that were royal blue
Rumour has it that the Cowboys offensive line sabotaged their chances to help Emmitt with his hold out negotiations.
Or Emmit was better and should be paid his worth
Irvin, hopped up on blow.
sbc
No Bon Jovi? God that was awful.
