In Part Two of a Seven Part Series, we are formulating a whipped soap scrub from soap shreds. In this example we will use a 100% coconut oil soap with a zero percent super-fat. We will also talk about how you can adjust your recipe, the importance of glycerin, and all the soapy things.
Soap & Clay is a family owned business operating in Washington State, but started out online thanks to Mrs. Soap & Clay's kickass brother and his amazing web design skills. The business was started as a tribute to Mrs. Soap & Clay's grandmother, the OG maker in the family that cultivated everyone's love for the DIY life. The studio/retail shop opened in 2017 on 6th Ave in Tacoma, and immediately began teaching soap, bath bomb, lotion, and scrub classes to the makers and maker enthusiasts of the PNW. In 2019, the pottery studio opened as well, making the soap shop a busy place full of artistic energy every minute of the day.
Mrs. Soap & Clay has been featured on Business Spotlight, New Day Northwest, and was awarded a coveted place on the South Sound's 40 under 40 list in 2019, an award given to the most influential business people under the age of 40 each year. She cried when she walked up to the podium to accept the award. A lot.
Drawing from her chemistry background and her maker spirit, Mrs. Soap & Clay infuses her favorite things into her soapy designs and creates products that are fun to see, use, and learn to make. Stick around for this ride - she'll take you on a great one.

I can tell you, you make this so easy for new soapers to have a recipe that actually works!!! It is also cheap to make. Far more so than the one I created as a skin care formulator, lol! However, mine is for use on faces really, not that you can't use the recipe you gave on your face, but is probably a better body scrub! I always love coming here to learn new things. I've never taken the time to think of using soap shreds for this purpose. I have a couple hundred different products to formulate with is my problem. So I don't always look at the simple way to get something done. I spend hours doing complicated crap that nobody gives a hoot about. Until they use a product, then they want to know, lol!
Like I said I love to come here yo learn, and your a great, easy teacher! You don't fail anybody, and I love that!
    Have a good night Chantine!

Today I decided why not try this soap shreds version and see how it turned out. It was easy, worked well and will be made again. I'm sorry that your process was questioned by others but also grateful that you took time to clarify. For me personally hands down best whipped sugar scrub I've made or used.💕👏

Glycerin is a humectant for the skin but acts as a mixer or solvent in recipes. In whipped sugar soap scrubs for example, combines with the base and helps desolve the paste to make the whip.

They didn’t look great but I loved the smell of the lemon balm essential oil I used in it. So instead of rebar hung I made this sugar scrub and it is wonderful! I still have a lot of paste to use after making a test batch but I’m sure it will be fun finding uses for it other than sugar scrubs. Thanks again!

You mentioned turning the shreds into melt and pour. Is that really possible?
How would I go about it?
Melt the shreds with water, cook the water out and then add glycerin 🤔 or cooking the water is not necessary. Just melt, add glycerine and pour it out in a mold.

    Questions
    1. if glycerin is a by product of cold process soap why do we need more?. Thank you for all u do. I've made 1 ugly batch of coconut oil soap At 25% sf and u gave me the courage 😭. I do formulate my whipped soap with cocoabetaine and sci but want 2 try ur recipe.
    2. Shouldn't the recipe be reformulated for account for the preservative and sugar? for ex
    Ex. 20% shreds
    20% h20
    5% glycerin
    4.5% stearic
    50% sugar
    .5% preservative
    I work best in %s
Based on ur recipe just whipped soap %
    Is
    35% shreds
    35% h20
    17% glycerin
    13%stearic
    3. Is low sf soap= add higher amount glycerin and high sf = add lower amount glycerin?
    Can wait to try experimenting.

Oh my gosh, this is such a fantastic video! I just shredded up a couple of fugly batches and will be making some sugar scrubs! I also happen to have about 25lbs of M&P base that I inherited from another soaper. Not being a fan of M&P bar soaps, do you think it would work to add your recommended additives to the melted M&P base, without first having to let them harden into bars and then shred them? I realize the M&P base already includes those additives, so I'm not sure how all that would play out.

I'm wanting like a cube that stays a cube until I squish it, sort of the same texture as a soft bubble gum, like bubblicious gum! And obviously once wet and squished it would spread on the skin like yours did😊 what are your thoughts??? What would I do to this recipe to tweek it for those results?? 🤔
