Great Tutorial. I've taken a workshop on hand painting B&W photo's using Marshall's Photo Oil Paints and love creating a two tone effect where part of the photo is in color and the other part is in black and white. Now you have shown me some new skills using Photoshop so I'm definitely going to try your method. Thanks for taking the time to teach your followers something new.

Thanks, Colin. Good tutorial. I've used techniques like this for years, and one of my best outcomes was when I collaborated on a book project with a watercolorist. I made the photographs and then the artist used them as the basis for watercolor paintings. I then scanned the paintings and composited the original images with the paintings in PS. The effects were hauntingly beautiful.

Thank you for the tutorial, I am going to try it now, will let you know. Do you have any video covering the following please? 1. Both a pure black (0) and pure white (255) point, set using either a Levels of Curves Adjustment, as an Adjustment Layer
    2. A colour correction layer used as a global correction.
    3. A dodging and burning layer (named) with the Blending Mode set to Soft Light for local correction.
    4. Highlight adjustments using a Curve Layer with Blending Mode set to Multiply
    5. An Unsharp Mask, applied to increase edge contrast
    6. Adjustment Layer masking to locally apply tone or colour adjustments
    7. A redistribution of light in the image using the Reverse Overlay Blended Layer technique
    8. Local sharpening using an Unsharp mask or High Pass filter.

Hi, you mention at 4:19 adding and subtracting areas. when I try to add it erases everything I had added before and just leaves the new selection. at 445 you say if it's not perfect don't worry we can always fix this later... how you never say that. my selection wasn't perfect and I have no idea how to fix it.
I do like that you GO SLOW unlike some others who seem to be speed talking and that you are wonderful in most explanations except the 4:45 how to fix...
