I love when Gary starts talking about the technical exercises and the articulation. It immediately made me think of a quote I heard on the Roy Firestone Sports Talk Show with Orel Hershsizer who said," it's attention to details that separate the ordinary from the Great".
Im a real fan of these interviews and really appreciate the phenomenal interviewing of Dr. Schroeder, who always seems to ask the right questions...Excellent work and looking forward to more
Hands down, one of the best and insightful interviews I've watched. Excellent guest. fueled by smart questions for the host. I REALLY appreciate this particular download. THANK YOU!!
One of the more enjoyable interviews in the series. Many thanks! Gary looks fantastic -- he was around 77 when this was recorded. He exudes a lot of warmth. And I appreciate the way David gave Gary plenty of room to expand on his answers without interrupting.
I'm a great fan of Garys music, esp his earlier stuff, when he was leading the NTU Troop band....This intervie is excellent well, the first 20-25 minutes or so....but he and Doc leave me in the dust speaking to the science of the music...harmonic conversations, the 5th, or is it the 3rd or 7th...and talking about the technical aspects, well...I don't read music! soooo, although I am a musician, playing percussion, but like Eddie (Bongo) Brown of the Motown Funk Brothers, I hear it! nevertheless, this interview is back on track around the 45th minute, thank goodness! Good stuff, the recollections..of persons...
One of my heroes.
