Should I Buy A Land Rover Defender in 2021? Owners Review

  • Ive owned this Defender 110 since 2018 and in this film I give you my opinions on owning the vehicle long term. Should you buy a Land Rover Defender in 2021? I attempt to answer that question, from the point of view of owning the car.
    The Land Rover Defender was a dream car of mine, an icon in the motoring world. I had always wanted to own one of these rugged off roaders but when the opportunity arouse the reality was a little different than the expectation.

    I love my TD5 110 CSW, it's pretty standard and fine as it is, ideal for the farm roads around here, carries dogs and tows trailers, I always look forward to driving it.

    I know this doesn't apply to you but it makes me laugh when somebody buys a Defender, does all these modifications (leather, heated seats, AC, sat nav etc.) and then complains that the new Defender isn't like the old one.
    Enjoyed the video, fantastic looking Defender!

      Thanks for watching and commenting Ben. 🙏🏼 It’s a different beast the new Defender isn’t it, the original has such a strong following and owners are so passionate it was always going to be tough one.

    Ive had a 2014 Puma XS from new, its my daily drive, Ive just removed the rear seats, lots of extra space now.A nice easy way to stop people opening the rear windows is pop half a wine cork in between the window pinchy latch and secure it with a bit of blue tack. Paint the cork black and it blends in. To fix the leg room, Ive fitted some lifters on the drivers seat, but no one is going to sit behind me now as I have the full leather seats and they are bulky to begin with.

    I’ve owned Defenders for twenty five years and treated myself to a new Puma 110XS in 2015, I love it to bits.
    The only vehicle I’ve owned that’s appreciated in value which is a bonus although I’d never sell it. I’ve also spent a fortune on additional security which is a pain but necessary.

    • @erinevadasjad
      @erinevadasjad Před 3 měsíci +1

      Can you describe the additional security? I owned a TD5 D90 for 5 years and was very worried for the safety aspect. Installed halo rally seats for T-bone crash protection, considered a cage against getting the roof flattened in a rollover scenario, but then decided to sell the car - just before the crazy price appreciation started. Now drive a Toyota Prado 2022 and do not look back, although the Defender was a real sweetheart..

      @@erinevadasjad I won’t list many but an obvious one is the Optimill door and bonnet hinges. They’re expensive but stops people nicking them. Another is a pedal lock plate.

I did as I speculated they'd go up in price and I convinced myself that if I look after it then I should never lose money....but I've wanted one for years so was always getting it. I got it just before 1st lockdown and its my only car so a daily driver. Its so compromised in many ways but every time I drive it I smile. My biggest gripe? I am actually glad Toyota is able to see this reality and is praying on it by coming up with some hints and condiments from this style above (VID) onto their most current deliveries. But yet,...there is NOTHING in today's market that resembles the APPEAL and lust this LR above is able to propel into our heart / souls / emotional. The new defender is not even near as good as the original one. You can't fix it's body flaws with a hammer anymore, you would avoid scratching it. Way overpriced as well. They should have renewed the original one and added security and safety features

      Show me an EV that will pull 3 and a 1/2 tons (at least) for 600 miles plus between garages, whilst carrying 5 adults and with a roof rack full of equipment over incredibly demanding terrain, at a price that the average person can afford, then I will think about trading-in my defender.

      Evs not be here long when everyone has to convert to hydrogen. That's where its at. Electric cars are like drills or TV s there will be a better newer one round the corner will not hold there money in the future.

    Had loads and would never waste my money on one again. Yes the value is going up but quality is still garbage. I'll stick with my Nissan elgrand 4x 4. 8 seats and I can get 8x4 plywood sheets in it. Clearly not as good off road, but 99 %of these defenders, as per this video, never go off road. And if this bloke thinks these are the best things ever off road, he's clearly never driven a unimog or a pinzgauer.

    Todays LR owners are of two different types: that of the status wealthy soccer mom/Starbucks swillers and the true to form outward bound rough and tumbler who doesn't care about dents or scratches. If you're of the latter, don't buy new with all the bells and whistles. If you're the former, a douche, stick to a Merc.
