Very nice. Always a pleasure to see a solid old machine brought back into service. It'll be good for another half century or so.

Its an absolute pleasure watching an old, solid machine be brought back to better than new condition. Stand was pretty schmick too.

Well done sir. 20 or so years ago I like you refurbished a Tanner buzzer/jointer although almost identical to yours it is the 4” version.
Painted it green but later on it got a dark blue finish to match the Dyco 14” bandsaw sitting here in my Rotorua hobby cave.
Watching this brought back memories of its refurb and what fun it was to restore worthy old equipment.

Once again I have been gifted with a really enjoyable viewing experience... Thank You.
Something unexpected I have taken away from watching this; I do not use my angle grinder nearly as much as I should.
My father would have said you should have painted the motor; he reckoned you would sleep better! Then he would spout his favourite mantra to the effect that only the Gods and you know about the unseen parts, blah blah blah... I ain't so sure he was right... it sure as hell is not going to run smoother because of some paint! 😜
    Cheers from Hawkes Bay.

Thanks Thinus. Did you recognise those black metal bars that I used for the base of the frame. I also used them on my bandsaw restoration. Thanks for sending them my way.

Looks very similar to a NZ planer that I have here in South Australia. Ill have to look up the Brand name. Nice refurbishment

Thank you. I know someone who has a Tanner like this one. It is the same size (cutter width), but it has some small differences. I think his one is a later model than my one.

Nice job on the new stand.
    Just 2 observations.
1 Use of shake proof / star washes is normally good practice on earth connections.
2 Did you make the motor mount bolt holes slotted for adjustment of the belt in future?
That waste collection seems to work well!
    Thanks

      @thehobbymachinistnz  Před měsícem +1

      Hi thanks for your questions.
1 I don't have any of those star washers so I later added another nut to lock on to the top nut.
2 The motor has slots in it so that allows for adjustments of the belt.

Thanks. Yes, it would be good to have this handy at home. The issue is that I'm running out of room so I'm going to have to extend the smaller shed out the back. Here is NZ you can build a shed up to 30m2 without consent. That is quite a large shed. Thanks for watching.

@@thehobbymachinistnz I wish I had as much room as you have, but we only have a small plot and almost nowhere to expand to, I have already reclaimed a small amount of the front garden.

I have one of these in a similar condition to how you started. Looking at your motor it looks like my drive pulley is too small so the spindle isnt turning fast enough. And yes they weigh a ton. That is a very nice stand you have made

Reminds me of the Dyco Industry planers I use to make back in the late 70s
