  • I've put together this guide that will hopefully help you when purchasing a new pair of cycling shoes. The fit of the shoe is so important especially if your feet are on the wider side.

    I've experimented with various options, trying out different wide clipless shoes that were on the market. After exhausting those options, I ultimately made the decision to consult a sport shoe orthopedist and invest in a custom cycling shoe. While it came with a significant price tag of 1400 €/$1500, I can confidently say that it was worth every penny. I haven't regretted my choice since.

    That was a nice video. Short, simple, good stuff. Recently bought shoes for commuting and got a bargain, sadly they were just too narrow for me. Pain on the outside of the foot. Thanks for the video!

    What are the widest toe box bike shoes? What are the exact measurements? Anything like vivobarefoot or Lems? Thank you 🙏 so much.

      Hey Alex, how's it going. some of the widest toe box shoes I have come across are the Lake 201, they literally keep their width all the way to the toes. Another option form Lake is the 241 X model , even though not as wide a toe box as the 201, it has unique separate side panels and have been a game changer in terms of foot comfort for wider feet

    Hi, nice to see someone giving some guidelines about how to find the right shoe! I've been struggling with this lately. It seems like I can't find a cycling shoe that i really like. I'm riding the lake cx332 at the moment. At least these aren't painful to my feet. But i also never really liked them, i don't know if it's the curvature of the outsole, or maybe they are generally a tad too wide (i think i mainly need it to be wider at the toe box only). Most shoe give me pain at one or both of my outer toe joints. I used to ride pretty cheap norhwave shoes, but it seems they changed something to their design, and now they hurt as well... What makes matters worse... I seem to be one of the only people who gets hotspots underneath the boa dials ... But almost all shoes are made with boas these days. Depending on how well they are padded and the exact placement I can stand some shoes with boa dials

      Hey Glenn, look at either the Lake 241 X model or for an extra wide toe box try the Lake 201 model, the widest shoes I have found for cycling :)

    I wear a size 16 shoe. I currently have Shimano RC3 size52 shoes. The exact model in the video. Mostly because they are the only shoe I could find in my size. They are very tight against my small toe even though I do not have wide feet. Any recommendations on where I could look for other shoe options? I know I’m not the only person in the world with large feet that cycles. Please help! Next step is custom shoes.

      Hi there Nick, If you have what i call a box style foot then you will need a shoe that matches that shape. have a look at this video here I did - czcams.com/video/9RUwmlJ4Wu0/video.html

    Thanks. I haven’t found a wide enough shoe yet, so have to use calf instead of stiff soles. I’m 63, so it burns me out after a day (hours, even) of pedaling/riding.

    I had a pair of size 15 shimano RC300, but they were really snug on my right foot so I ordered a 16. The right shoe is a perfect fit, but now my left seems a tad bit bigger and I can put a finger behind the back of my heel. what is your recommendation? I know for sure I can use my toe warmers comfortably now in the cold! Lol

    Hey dude, awsome video! I have wide feet, but also needing a bit more volume on the top. Was thinking lake cx 201. Whats you taughts and whats the difference in a half size vs full size. My foot is a 43.5 wide

    • @AucklandBikeFit
      @AucklandBikeFit  Před 2 lety

      Thanks so much much Michael. The Lake CX332 Wide is a very nice high volume + Wide fit and very comfortable, something like the CX301 are nice in the width but it has hardly any volume + the sizes are about 2 sizes out, a 39 will actually measure more like a 37. I have not had much hands on time with the CX201 but from what I remember they are a closer fit to the CX332. A good rule of thumb is if you are ordering online, order two pairs both one 1/2 size apart and then test the fits of both, then simply return the size that doesn't work :)

    In terms of width, do you happen to know how much is the difference between a normal vs wide rc3, like how many mm? I am size 45 in shimano, but the only size available in an online shop here is 45E.

    • @AucklandBikeFit
      @AucklandBikeFit  Před rokem

      Hi there, in the recent years models, the wide version has a lot less volume than the older models so in terms of the difference, not that much to be honest.

    Thanks! This is quite helpful!
    My feet are bit difficult as the widest point is at the pinky toe. So even with normal footwear I've trouble to find anything that really fits. With bike shoes it's a nightmare! Got Lake MX 241 Wide, wich is wider than my overall foot but I still need to size up to accommodate my pinkies and they still stand out. I can ride in those all day without pain but they are really loose around the foot even with molding the heel. I tried Specialized, Shimano Wide, Northwave, Scott... nothing feels secure AND comfy.
    If you got any secret tipps that would be highly appreciated!
    Bests from Germany

      @AucklandBikeFit  Před 2 lety +2

      Hey how's it going, thanks for the comment. One of the widest and largest volume shoes out there seems to be the Sidi Mega Range, they do quite a few different models, always struggle for stock down here in NZ but you may be able to find somewhere in Germany to try some on for size and check the overall fit. another route which we have had to go down here in NZ as there are so many people with extra wide feet is to go full custom, Bont do this service, essentially you find a bont dealer and they will arrange for someone from Bont to come and take a mould of your feet, it's what i would call a last resort as it can be pretty expensive (USD$1000+) but you are guaranteed a pair of shoes that 100% fit your feet :)

    • @turboplopp
      @turboplopp Před 2 lety

      @@AucklandBikeFit Wow, thanks for the quick reply! I've tried the Sidis but they didn't do it. A $1000 for a custom pair is a lot of cake - but I guess it's a better investment than new wheels or so. Thanks again, I'll seriously consider your advice!

      Hey yeah i have always found through the years unless your foot fits in the Bont perfectly they can cause some discomfort especially if your foot is wider than the shoe as they have next to no give in the sides like most other shoes out there. just popped up a little video review of the Lake 241 X if your interested to have look, one of the best options out there for wider feet - czcams.com/video/Rt-UcW1xeTw/video.html

      Hey there, If you are going for Lakes I would just add 5mm to your foot length, this will put you in the size 47. Other brands will vary so I would definitely recommend trying on when you can
