I picked up the Wested Leather Raiders Hero Jacket, modeled after the original jacket and made with the original clothing label! Is this is the best jacket available? And I'm also comparing it to the Disney jacket and shirt. Getting ready for Harrison Ford's return, and swan song in Indy 5 or Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny. The trailer is looking interesting, I'm not gonna lie. I'm torn on whether I wish Steven Spielberg directed it and completed the Pentalogy. But James Mangold does have a pretty good track record. Time to put this leather jacket on and see how it sizes up.

Yes the Wested Leather jackets from their line up are the best Indy jackets I’ve personally ever owned. I have three of them and they are manufactured by the company who produced them for the films.
Best jacket(s) I've ever owned!!! Bought my first (Last Crusade HERO) in Pre Distressed Cowhide and then met a fellow Indy fan who became a friend and I bought my second Last Crusade jacket (Lambskin) from him, the Cotton Body was too warm for me. I sold it to another friend when I heard about the new Legacy jackets and got the Last Crusade Legacy jacket!!!

I completely agree. Got my Raiders jacket in 2015 and is still looking great. 2nd was the Crusade jacket and love the weight. Both were predistressed hides.
Recently got the Raiders Hero Jacket and self distressed. Great company, great quality. I get compliments on em all the time and won my costume contest at work for my indy cosplay. Wested for me is the way to go.
@@steveb8201 I have a Raiders Stock Jacket in 44 and a Last Crusade in 44. I bought another Raiders awhile ago in distressed in 42 and the thing still holds up. I need to get another Last Crusade in distressed at some point? Since I wear these jackets year round in MN. They are great.
@@ViperChief117 I'm in Chicago and wear em all year as well. Do you use any leather conditioners on yours? I generally use my leather honey 1x yr on em or based on which ones I weather the most. They are worth every penny from Westes in my opinion.
Definitely not too short or too tight at all to me. There aren't too many scenes where it is zipped up, but in the ones he has it zipped, it is snug also such as the Ravenwood bar scene or the truck chase.
The jacket is perfect! Looks AMAZING!!! Can't wait to get mine!!! 🙏🏻😆🙏🏻
Anyone considering the Wested should also look at Bill Kelso, and Steele And Jones. I had an original Wested (back when it was Leather Concessionaires) made in 1987. I have a Steele And Jones coming to me this week. Steele and Jones offer a custom service, where they'll send you a cotton test jacket so that you can make amendments to the jacket before you cut to the chase. Kelso have amazing leathers. Anyone thinking of getting an Indy jacket should do the research and check those guys out.

Yep. That's what I think too. As a guy who owns about 20 Indy jackets, I'd say the Wested shown here is damn near perfect fit.

I have the Wested 'Raiders' jacket, in lambskin and plan to weather it a little.
I also have the Wested pants (trousers!) and shirt, which are superb quality. The quality of the Wested jacket and shirt are SO much better than the Disney items (probably made in China?) which look really cheap and nasty by comparison. The Wested trousers are a wool cavalry twill and have a very classic feel. They are cut beautifully and capture, perfectly, the era.
The boots of choice would be Alden 405's, but even old, secondhand pairs sell for CRAZY money. Thankfully, Wested sell a very good copy of the Alden 405's and they are excellent boots.
Now I'm just waiting for my new 'Raiders' fedora to be made, in genuine rabbit felt (constructed with the 'turn') and I'll be set!

Congrats! Perfect sizing on that Wested first time out! Most of these jackets from Wested look a size too large when people unbox them. Probably could have compared a Wested LC/KoCS Jacket to the Disney one. The design and fit would have been a lot more similar.
With the bag on the outside, it looks perfect to the Crystal Skull.
The tailof the jacket should be right at the top of the back pockets. Looks good to me!

Definitely not too short, Indy jackets should be down to the top of the back pocket, they’re shorter than most modern styled jackets.. the sleeves could use a shower and roll up? Perhaps? And the chest sizing looks spot on for you, so I wouldn’t worry about that too!

I have a indiana jones adventure wear jacket from either the 90s or 80s. It had a map liner inside. Haven't seen too many like the one I have

It took me weeeeeks to figure out what measurement for my Wested Legacy Raiders Jacket. I went for a 42 chest even if I am a 43 and reckoned it would be snug when it's fact on point !
that's great. Yeah I think I read that it was designed to feel a little big so getting a smaller one might fit better. What did you do for sleeve and back length? did you follow their guidelines or measure yourself?

Also would you suggest measuring exactly to your size or a size up?
I went by my "usual" size because the measuring part got me a little worried about not doing them right. If you want to avoid potentially too small or a little tight I would size up. But measuring properly, have someone do the measurements for you , is probably the best way. You can also reach out to them to ask about certain things. This hero jacket is made to order
What size jacket did you purchase? I measured myself as a 42, though I’m worried I’ll get the wrong size
I got a 38" that's what I "normally" wear. I was worried that 40 would be too large. My chest measures around 40, but generally when I try those sizes they're too big. But, on this I could set the sleeve and length individually. But I didn't really know what I wanted, or should get there. So I went with the "standard" 38" they recommended, 25.5" sleeve and 23" back.
They say this jacket can look big on some, so maybe that's ok. It's all a little confusing and daunting. The Jacket doesn't look that large on Indy, to me. But maybe it was a little larger but with shorter sleeves and back?

I have a lambskin raiders made by Peter Botwright I bought in the mid 90s. It wears thin. I would not “weather” the jacket artificially when it weathers naturally into a thinner skin. This can result in small perforations in the material where it is weak. I have treated it with a shoe leather cleaner once or twice but that’s it. My jacket is now approaching 30 years old and it looks it. My lambskin when new looked as the new one demonstrated here looks. The color tone of the jacket lightened when the dye faded under sunlight over time. I’ve worn the jacket everywhere and still do. The lambskin breaks in very nicely like an old baseball glove.
I want to know how the material of the Wested shirt and pant feels. A comparison on the sensation of the material would be good. The gauge of the material and the pants. How heavy is the material? If you can describe the material please that would help. What percent is polyester, cotton, wool, or gaberdine, etc. ? Thanks.
The Wested shirt is 100% cotton. It feels nice. Thin but not too thin. I'd compare it to a dress shirt perhaps.
The pants feel similar to my levis in terns of thickness. nice and soft but textured. No info on fabric but I'm guessing cotton on those too
@@mariuscinematicuniverse Interesting the fabric info is missing on the pants...photo imagery suggests the fabric is a mix of synthetic or natural. Original ( I mean historical versus screen costume) pants of this type were made of Gabardine.
Its pricey, a material like gabardine would make the pants more expensive. Anyhow, I appreciate your response. Hopefully, we can share more detail.
I wanted to say the fabric was Corderoy but knew that wasn't right, so I said textured. But I looked up Gabardine and that's exactly what I looks like. But, what fibers, not sure. Assumed cotton but could be wrong.
@@mariuscinematicuniverse Its a great material. Does the color in daylight match the image color on the website? The Wested pants right...I forget, looking at it again...its a gabardine. So, how’s it feel? Waist size exact to your’s?
It feels nice, soft and sturdy. The color in person in daylight looks a little lighter and more beige to the eye than I see it on the monitor, but monitors do tend to look very different. I got a 30 and it's tight. So get a few sizes up I'd say, going to put a belt anyway. It fits better when worn higher, which is probably the way its supposed to be worn. But still, seem to run small. I usually wear 29 in levi's, yeah, small waist. And this 30 is tight.
The discrepancies are part of the charm and lore of the movies from that era. Modern movies are almost made too perfect and lose that charm

I followed the guidelines on their page for "standard" lengths. This is what I got:

yeah that's what they said and why I was confused and concerned when ordering, but I more or less followed their suggested sizing. But I did go with my "normal" chest size vs what I measured, as that would have resulted in a baggier jacket. But they do say that this Hero Legacy one can be a little large... So I guess it's up to you on how you want it.

I Cosplay professionally for a movie theater I work for (I AM Indiana Jones) I own two of Wested's Last Crusade jackets and wear them all the time (in and out of costume!!) My everyday jackets!! I adore the Legacy Last Crusade jacket!!!! Length looks good on you but only thing i noticed was that it should hit you at the belt and not covering it, henceforth it looks a little long on you. For the true Indy fan: Fedora should be a Herbert Johnson, the jacket, Wested Leather and the boots (my next purchase) Alden 405!!!! Fortune and Glory!!!
Thank you. Good to hear. I think I need to some bigger pants. I bought the size up from what I normally wear in Levi's but its pretty tight at the waist so I have to wear it high. If I can wear the pants a little lower maybe the belt will fit at the right height :)

It's interesting there are a ton of wested fans but no one seems to have an answer to this question.
If you think they only wore one jacket in the movie, you’re sadly mistaken they had several movies at least 40 jackets, a different hugh of color brown… for lighting.
of course they had multiple jackets and shirts for each film. But no, they did not make multiple version of the jacket for each film with different colors. That's just a result of different lighting scenarios.

Do you got the exact size of Indiana Jones bottom hugger! it looks just like the Indiana Jones jacket fits up to your waist just the way the real Jones check blocks remember Indiana Jones it was made like a bomber but it had the action flaps so you judged correctly

@@mariuscinematicuniverse My actual chest size is a 38, but I’m thinking about getting the Last Crusade Jacket in size 40. The Pit 2 Pit size on the 40 is 22.5”, and that’s the measurements that I’m getting from some jackets I already own that fit me well. Just out of curiosity, how tall are you?

I'm 5'9" on the dot. If you want it to be a little bigger then get the size up. They do seem to run a little small. For this specific jacket somewhere on their site I think i saw something saying this fit was a little bigger than the normal cuts. But I can't find that right now. So I ordered one that was more or less what I "normally" wear. I could maybe have sized up

Pit 2 Pit on the Hero Raiders is 21”, it’s 22.5” on the Last Crusade. That’s a 3 inch bigger diameter and I just that that would fit me better. Also, the back is 27.25”. I’m looking to use it as an everyday jacket.

I’ve head-cannoned the discrepancies in the hat being that Indy probably has to reblock and rebash his hat constantly because of how much abuse it gets on a regular basis. As for the jacket, probably can only explain that with movie magic or him having multiple lol.

Would you recommend the wested Raiders HERO jacket over the standard wested lambskin Raiders?
The Hero jacket is supposed to be more accurate, at least to certain parts of the film. And it has the correct tag and some other details that I think makes it worth it.

Indy was shot in his left arm in Raiders. He then left his jacket on the Bantu, so yes, in Last Crusade, he has a new jacket. Your Raiders jacket looks like a good fit on you.

@mariuscinematicuniverse When he boards the U boat, he's just wearing his pants, shirt & boots. He left his jacket, hat, whip & bag. He might have tracked down the Bantu after securing the Ark but his jacket had a bullet hole, blood and was kinda shredded after the truck. Since the TLC jacket has the buttons and slightly bigger pockets, he most likely bought a new one that was similar to his original but with slight changes.

yes, we all know that. That's not what I was referring to, I was referring to how it was supposed to be treated "in-universe." Someone mentioned that he left his jacket before/after the u-boat, so it could be that he had to get a new jacket after that. For the hat, well, I don't think there's a story plot for that. The hat in Temple of Doom is just made differently because it was made by a different hatmaker.
Disney version is Moore Indy than wested
That's an interesting take. Why do you like the Disney version more? The Wested jacket is made from the same patterns and material as the original. I just haven't weathered the jacket yet.
The hat didn’t change. If you watch it chronologically beginning with Last Crusade Temple of Doom Raiders and then Destiny you’ll see the bash become more creased annd sharp over time.
Jacket fir perfectly. In my European eyes,. You just made it a bit to tight on the waist.
Americans tend to wear too big sizes anyway. You shouldn't look like in a tent.
