how would that work tho, especially with multiple shields. Sure you could just say that the healthbar should just show which shield has the most hp left at any given time, but in consideration of all the different elemental resistance bonuses, on field character defense, artifact effects etc. it would just be downright confusing

The mere fact that we are comparing her with Zhongli and not with the other 4 stars like Diona or Novelle, already tells u how strong of a unit she is.
Exactly, after watching this im not pulling for Zhongli anymore. cuz even if he is generally better than her, I don’t really see much difference in the shield’s strength. Getting Him while having Layla is a waste of primos imo

But if he had HP% as ascension stat then I assume his max HP would be near 100k or might be more. 50k Zhongli is already too over powered. Imagine more than 100k Zhongli. All max hp substats rolls in artifacts, food, hydro resonance, Yelan c4, black Tassel and theoretical ascension = 80913 hp.

if i'm not wrong for most of the showcase, aside from zhongli's hp and shield scaling being higher in general, geo shields automatically get 150% base absorption to all elements, where as elemental shields don't, they only get 250% absorption to their own element.
Now i'm wondering about anemo shield and Dendro shield's base absorption.

Even though Layla's shield isn't that strong, it's a really strong one for a 4 star. I also like how it deals continuous damage while shielding a player.
Isn't that strong? It's the second strongest by far. It's only a bit worse with less duration than Zhongli's. Only one or two things in the game will break through hers but not beak though Zhongli's.
It's one of the bests though?? Better than Diona, Noelle, Xinyan. Thoma has a slightly better one but again he's a completely different element. and Zhongli is just Zhongli.

@@tsucacaur At full stacks yes, but at base it's not any stronger than Xinyans or Diona's. Layla's is over twice as strong as their shield, takes almost no effort and isn't burst dependent in the slightest. As a result it's consistency is massive compared to Thoma's.
If you want to test shield strenth then use a third character that will use the shield. Because the dmg taken is affected by the defense and resistance of the character within the shield. That would result in a much better comparison than having them stay on field.

FYI: you can't compare two heroes' shields like you did here.
The active character's defense affects the amount of damage that gets absorbed by the shield.
The cparison is only valid if both your Leila and your Zhongli have the exact same defense stat. Otherwise, switch to the same character in both tests after casting the shield, before taking any damage.

Regardless if zhongli shield is weaker or stronger, the good thing about his shield that will always just make it better in comparison is that it's the only one to last 20 seconds.
Just gives you a lot more freedom and not have to worry about it as much.
Layla has 100% shield uptime with 12 second duration and 12 secobd cd and she fits good in any kind of team. You will never need more than 12 seconds to end team's rotation

if ur rotation is about 9seconds means u have to wait 3 seconds on layla

she has a 99% uptime on the shield and 100% on burst which is already good! plus her passive AND c1 give more shield strength and absorption. lastly, she has a useful ascension. i think yhis is all to compensate for a lack of healing (b shell definitely be compared to diona).
This test is kind of forgetting the fact that the stars of her shield give a shield strength buff when you gain them for the duration of the shield... using the shield directly after deploying it without that is not really doing it justice (since the stars would normally accumulate fast via clicking different characters Es)

that's actually strong. competitive to thoma's max stack shield, but thoma's shield still sucks cuz you need his burst for it and needs to stack for it to be max stack but it rarely happens because the shield immediately breaks lol gonna have to replace thoma in my double hydro hutao team
How do you play if your Thoma's shield breaks immediatly? I use him in abyss almost for a year, and his shield was broken like less than 10 times during all that time.

i never use thoma because i already have c2 zhongli with r2 homa + godly millelith artefacts stats. but after dendro come out, max his lv and crowned his burst for burgeon team. his icd (which usualy seen as negatif point) on his burst shield surprisedly well match for burgeon😂

For some reason, Zhongli's shield is still stronger because it is Geo. Layla's shield could be melt by pyro damage but Zhongli could absorbed all elements.
This is not how the shield works. Cryo shield tanks pyro damage as good as other types of damage except cryo.

@@mlacc5020 yes. Reactions are triggered from the status on the player. If you dont have hydro on your character (hi, Barbara and Xingxu (hope I wrote the name correctly)) you will not be frozen.
You should try their shields on a third different character, since the durability of a shield is affected by defense

I rlly hope they’ll release an event or future 4 star weapons which have hp% as a secondary stat. Almost all shielders have a leg up since there is at least one weapon that increases the scale stat. Currently only khaj nisut has this and it’s a 5 star

Only her c1 and c3 affects her shield strength, the rest are just buffs to her and her team. Agree with the 5 star sword tho.
I play Laila C0 with 3* sword, and keep be useful. In fact, this build is wrong. The appropiate build for Laila is 4pc tenacity. You gain life, shield strenght and his ult hits enemy in perfect time, unlocking passive thad increase atk.
You should have swapped to a character to compare both shield based on the same def value, coz the amount of damage incurred on the shield will also based on the def of the active character.
Take note:
HP%= HP of shield, but how much the enemy will damage the shield is based on active character def.

I really used to be crazy about shield as I keep not getting Zhongli. I tried Noelle and Diona to the max and now I have Kokomi I just heal non stop. I really want Layla cause love the feeling of having a shielder in the team.

It's kinda disappointing how there aren't any HP-scaling 4* swords lying around in wait, because it would have been a perfect stat stick to Layla. At the very least, I'm looking forward to seeing her with 45k+ HP with a lvl 9 (or 10) ES. My goal is to get her shield to be on par with Zhongli, who can withstand around 12k+ damage with his current equipment. Not exactly the best so to speak, but it's sturdy enough that I can refresh it every once in a while and still not take any damage. It's characters like Layla and Zhongli that makes me wonder when the next HP% artefact will come, as the last one had been Tenacity of the Millelith- released way back during Eula's release date.

@@g.promise8929 Rarity has nothing on the secondary stats. I mean, there were no Def% swords until the recent Albedo event came up, and it's a 4* weapon. And there's no 5* EM Claymore out, now is there? Or a 5* Def% Sword?
It all boils down to release. You don't expect to get every single item from the get-go, especially if there's nobody who would really benefit from it. The same goes for characters as well. The Bell was released with HP%, but it was not until Dori came along that it had some use. Dragon's Bane has Pyro/Hydro damage bonus, but it took years before a Hydro Spear user appeared.
Inazuma craft weapons are ER .. Sumeru are EM ... Fontaine should and will be HP

The secondary stat is not mutually exclusive to one nation, nor are its passives geared towards a particular, specific stat.

Player shields work different from enemy shields. The element on your shield only tells you the type of damage it absorbs better. Layla's shield just happened to run out when the attack hit.

Why use x2 set for +35% shield? It only give +35% to artifact set wielder. Not effective for group. For Zhongli is better Tenacity of the Millelith x4.

I built my Zhongli for burst damage, so if I ran 40% HP on Layla (new 3.6 artifacts) plus triple HP her shield would probably actually be stronger than my Zhonglis.
Dont waste time building burst zhongli. Even with perfect hybrid build he will hardly do 90k with burst which is still dps loss for your team considering his burst animation lenght. At that time your main dps could have done way more than that

@@Greatbabyred While not really an important factor, Layla also has a hilarious bit of synergy with Yae Miko: pop Layla's shield, switch to Yae, and lay down her turrets. Layla's shield counts each turret as a separate skill for the purpose of generating Night Stars, so you get all 4 pretty much instantly, and the combination of the Stars and turret zaps can launch smaller enemies into the air and juggle them for a couple seconds.
There is something that is not being taken into account, the character's defense also influences the resistance of the shield, so to make a fair comparison, the tests must be done on the same character.
Def has nothing to do with Zhongli's shield.
@@PixelMochi It has a lot to do with it, since the defense of the character in use affects the damage received, this in turn modifies the damage that the shield receives, so for this type of test the shield must be used on exactly the same character

Bt they jst ignore one thing that, her shield is cryo (elemental shield)one and has 250% absorption Against cryo and zhongli's one is non-elemental(Geo- which has increased resistance Against all element) his shield absorbs 150% off any type of damage(physical & elemental)
Lastly they forgot that hoyo wont ever make any shielder good than zhongli as it otherwise will invaluably make thinfs worse for hoyo's banner sales and instead would make layla a 5★

I really need another 5 star shielder with 20s uptime so abyss can be easy AF.
My problem with using Layla against Zhongli is the duration is still short. 12 seconds is not enough and even it's 100% uptime, no way I can predict when the 12 seconds ends. To me at least 15 seconds is more manageable even if it's not 100% uptime.
That's why rotations are important
Usually i switch to layla when i think it's around 10 seconds, or when the enemy stopped their attack so I can recast the shield and then move on with the combo
Do you know anything about team rotations? There is no way rotation will last for more than 12 seconds for ur main dps. Her cd feets with rotations just perfectly unlike zhongli's

Is it worth it to ascend Layla to lvl 90? I have her at lvl 80 but I also have Zhongli. Zhongli is my only fully built shielder.
Zhongli: Jade Shield. Posesses 150%damage absorption against ALL Elemental and Physical DMG
Layla: Night of Formal Focus. Purts forth a shield known as Curtain of Slumber, dealing AOECryo DMG. Absorbs CRYO DMG with 250% effectiveness.
So basically you compare shield against ALL damage and the one that is basically blocking CRYO damage... Genius. Fucking genius.
Layla's shield also good but the Duration is too short than Zhongli's
I don't really like Layla much but I did a 10 pull and got her, so at least that's another character for the collection.
